I think 70% of Americans do believe in God? Check the polls.

So?

Oh well that's alright then. Assuming that to be true, you're only insulting and disrespecting the other 87,908,271 of them!

The Majority may soon change in the United States regarding religion

First, you have to find a way of uniting the one hundred zillion Christian sects in the USA.
As you may know, most Protestants don't see eye to eye with Catholics. And even within Protestants, there is a new church founded every day, with their own interpretation of the bible. Good luck.

Even in Mexico, where the population is 99.5 percent Catholic, there is a strict separation of church and state, to a degree where the church is NOT allowed to own property, or prayer in the schools. They learned their lesson of the church having political power, the hard way...

If the Poll are false..then this certainly wouldn't be an Issue in the U.S right now. Anything is debatable. If you don't believe in God..I don't disrespect you or anyone..I respect those that put thier lives on the line to defend that right of Freedom.

My point is..you gave your time to insure Freedom of Religion..not opress it. YOu have the right to practice or believe whatever you want. Though I don't do much preying..If iam at a school and bow my head and prey..should I or anyone be arrested or forced not to do so?

The thing is you can do this privately, but when the school or teachers start openly celebrating it and having things such as a Christmas party. (We had them in school) and the kids who didn't celebrate Christmas were left out .. this is definetly not fair. Push it in a private school.

Even China practices separation of state and religion:

Freedom of Religious Belief in China

Information Office of the State Council
Of the People's Republic of China
October 1997, Beijing

China has the following national religious organizations: Buddhist Association of China, Taoist Association of China, Islamic Association of China, Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association, Chinese Catholic Bishops' College, Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee of the Protestant Churches of China, and China Christian Council.

Religious leaders and leading organs of the various religious bodies are selected and ordained in accordance with their own regulations.

Religious organizations in China run their own affairs independently and set up religious schools, publish religious classics and periodicals, and run social services according to their own needs. As in many other countries, China practices the principle of separating religion from education; religion is not a subject taught in schools of the popular education in China, although some institutions of higher learning and research institutes do teach or conduct research into religion.

The various religious schools and institutes set up by the different religious organizations teach religious knowledge in line with their own needs. All normal clerical activities conducted by the clergy and all normal religious activities held either at sites for religious activities or in believers' own homes in accordance with usual religious practices, such as worshipping Buddha, reciting scriptures, going to church, praying, preaching, observing Mass, baptising, monkhood initiation, fasting, celebrating religious festivals, observing extreme unction, and holding memorial ceremonies, are protected by law as the affairs of religious bodies and believers themselves and may not be interfered with.

Why do Christians always make blanket statements that carry things to an extreme that will never happen? I'm not trying to take away your right to practice Christianity, all I ask is that you Mr. Christian, not shove it down my throat. I don't want your censorship on what I watch or what I read. I don't want your censorship on the relationship I have with my doctor. I don't want your censorship on the scientific community and I don't want to hear your "message of love".

I know of NO instances where a Christian was taken from their parents and put into an "atheist " School and made to live in an "atheist " home to assure that the child became atheist . I do however have personal experience with this happening in reverse. It happened to a member of my family. He was forcably removed from the reservation, taken from his mother and put into a Christian boarding school so that he would not learn "heathen" practices.

Why can't you just go to church like a good little boy and stay the f**k out of my life?

I think they should ban it until they start accepting the pagan roots of Christmas. Until then it is just deceptive to children I think. hehe :D

Of course then I still wouldn't want it in the schools because it still has religious roots. Of course so does Halloween and Easter (both also with pagan roots), Valentines Day and St. Patricks Day (both catholic and some pagan roots). And I'm sure there are some other holidays that are slipping my mind right now.

The only holidays I think are fine for United States schools are Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, and any other political holidays that have their roots in the US and are not based from any religion.

That's my extreme opinion though. And for the record. I celebrate all these holidays with my family, but we just have different perspectives of how and why we celebrate them. :)

Doesn't matter if they did or did not do that. The purpose of Thanksgiving is a celebration of our coming to this new world. It is a political celebration. Public Schools are Government Schools. Therefore I am fine with any "Government" holidays being in them. If I do not want my child to be in a Government School, I would send them to Private School or Homeschool them. There *are* options. :)

I'm all for doing away with holidays. Just have national days off. People can use them to celebrate whatever they want.

In reality, this is not a bad idea at all. For a short time I worked for a company based out of South Africa and their policy was to give their employees 6 weeks of holiday leave that you could take at anytime you wanted. So if you wanted Christmas off, you could use the leave at that time, the same held true if you wanted Chanukaha or some other holiday.

It was a very nice policy.

<<Bann Christmas at Schools in the United States? What's next?>>

Umm, banning the teaching of evolution? And some 60%+ of the cro-magnons in the good Ol' U. S. of A think this is a good idea. But they are wrong. Simply, basically, factually, utterly wrong - as wrong as if they wanted to expunge the heliocentric model of the solar system or teach Aristotelian physics.

My daughter goes to an splendid public elementary school. They no longer have Christ in their Saturnalia, but they are going on a field trip to some xmas thingy at a nearby parochial school. What ought I do?
a) deny her the trip with her friends and make her feel like a outcast?
b) spend a few hundred hours convincing all the relevant parties that this is constitutionally prohibited state action regarding the establishment of religion?
c) ensure that her beliefs are already well enough inculcated that it doesn't matter?

Okay, I'm selfish, I opted for (c).

And in case you are wondering, I have no religion. But did go carrolling with my public high-school choral group which was about 80% non-christian and had a blast; but I also had a choice about my participation.

Guess what? Sorry to dissapoint you, but you can't force christianity on people in SL either. Do you see LL forcing folks to worhsip Christ or take part in religious observances? Do you see LL pronouncing that Christianity is the one true religion? Guess SL must be a piece of shit virtual world huh?

I do agree with you that the World is going down the tubes. However it's because of narrow-mined, judgemental, self righteous, holier-than-thou, evangilistic idiots, and not those that believe in individual freedoms, seperation of church and state, freedom of religion, freedom of speech common sense, and physically evident science.
