From: Hank Ramos Hello friend, fellow hot air balloon competetitor, and overall good egg! Take a break from SL. Especially, take a break from the forums. Everyone deserves a respite now and then. You are an extremely talented designer and scripter that I look up to in SL, and I would sincerely hate to see you leave the place that we all dream about becoming the Metaverse. Get some rest, refuel, and come back and see us again when you are ready! I feel the same way Cubey - take a break from the forums, take a deep breath and then do what you love to do and the heck with everyone else. You appear to have been caught unawares in the middle of something unpleasent - step back and remember what you love about SL. BTW - these sentiments go double from my hubby who absolutely LOVES the things you create. /** hugs ** Rose

Cubey, Although we have recently disagreed over some matters regarding SLExchange, you know that I have been a huge fan of your work for as long as I can remember. I think I own probably half of the things you have ever sold. I used to blow all of my money every time you came out with some cool new plane, even if I had to put away some part of my build to afford to rez one of your designs You have inspired a lot of people about the possibilities of SL, and are synonymous with it in the minds of many people, including me, and are the strongest example I've seen of a professional in SL. Please do not let the very difficult conflicts and the sideline drama going on regarding SLExchange discourage you, or let anyone drive you away. I have felt my own sense of discouragement at times, and there was a period where I was not in SL very much. because of the actions of some people. However, my love for SL and the passion and magic I still find in it after 2 years is what keeps me going, even when someone manages to get to me. Our community as a whole would be lesser without you, please don't go.

From: someone Over the past months I've noticed how Second Life had been taken over by twits who think that they should run the entire game, and spend their entire day slagging their competition in the forums to accompish that goal. Gee, I've noticed that too. And the first one I took on really vigorously was Ulrika. And getting her past her "let's make an asshat with Prokofy's raven avatar" phase (she posted it on the forum) and getting her to apologize profusely to the point where I even gave her 3 posrates was a real struggle. Ulrika has met her match with me. Taking on Ulrika only earned me a slew of enemies form among the Forum Harpies. I was appalled that Ulrika would call on the boards here to boycott a man's business as she did with SLEXchange. She tried to threaten me with that here, too, and said "Don't do business with this person". That ought to be against the TOS, trying to roust up boycotts of people's business. Some games have an ROC where you can't campaign liks that. She's virulent and ruthless. She must be stopped. YOU should not be sacrificed in that process. You are bigger than she. Your work stands and speaks for itself. So don't let her or other forum biddies with too much time on their hands get you down. Just play through. I think you shouldn't leave SL, or take a break from the game, but just take a break from Ulrika, and that means leaving the forums. I hope to do that myself. Do you need tier?

From: Craw Mysterio Yeah, okay, bye. I'm sure this isn't blatant attention whoring or anything. Have you done your homework Craw? Since Sept. of '03, Cubey has never made a comment like this about leaving - so when he makes it, he's serious. Please take your trolling elsewhere. Thanks

From: Juro Kothari Sorry Cubey, I've already placed a call to the gay mafia - you will not be allowed to leave the game. Oh, and they'll come help you redecorate. <snip> hmmm, that's funny...my pager hasn't gone off today. Seriously, don't go Cubey. We need a strong dissenting voice or we'll end up as lame as the 2004 Democratic caucus!

dont go... please? you are seriously one of (tied with a few others) *the best* creators in this game, not just vehicles, that including everything i have seen in SL. the aerodrome was one of the first huge and impressive builds i saw as a newbie, it will be a loss to SL if you go, if you stay out of the forums for a while and let the drama drain away maybe that will help

Cubey,
I've never asked anybody who said "I'm leaving" to actually stay, it's their own decision..
BUT, I am going to ask you to reconsider, you're one person out of very few that I actually buy things from - and I am NOT a plane guy at all, it's just the shear beaty of the things you create that compells me to OWN OWNNN OWNNNNN!!!!.... ahem*
Also, I dont think it is silly that you earn money for food from SL. Without the money I make in Second Life I wouldn't be able to live either, as ridiculed as I may get for it.
So, listen to people here, you have a good place in Second Life's history.. but does your story have to end here?

NO! Sometimes it's just a pulsion to fuck everything you make, but it passes. Don't give up! I understand your concerns, but putting aside neat utopies, as for love, greed is everywhere. In this SL is just similar to RL, if you can live in RL for obvious reasons you can do it here. SL is a great thing Cubey and you know it, not in this precise moment maybe, but you know it. Take a break for now and after, just after, decide to stay or quit. And anyway there isn't anything wrong in earning food from building a game: LL do it and they do just half the work

Cubey. Please reconsider. Cool down for a while and get back to us. This forum is a piece of shit! I dont know how many posts ive reported that they do nothing about. Im sorry to say, but LL doesnt have the slightest clue about how to run a decent community forum. I should know, i make my living from running them: My biggest forum has 2.4mill posts, and we have much less drama than there is here. Why? Because we have 19 volunteer moderators keeping the shit out of it. Controversal posts/threads are quickly put in a quarantine forum for only mods to see, and they discuss in a private forum what to do with it. Only occationally do they have to contact the forum owners (GF and me), and they handle all the shitheads in an excellent way. The moronic asshats in here wouldn't even last a day at our forums before the first 3day suspension. Next time they would be gone for 1-3 months, depending on the severity. That keeps the community productive, not destructive. In order for a community forum to work, it must fullfill its purpose. The rules must be made with that it mind, and they need swift 24/7 enforcement of the rules. Its not about 'freedom of speech', or some people's need for attention, or political/personal agendas. It's about helping the community. This forum is severly handicapped in doing that, since they allow personal attacks, backstabbing and plain destructive threads. Heck, in my first thread in here I was called an asshole for disagreeing with the way a veteran member tried to invalidate my opinions. Nice welcome! I was shocked when i came here this summer, and im even more shocked to see that they do nothing to improve the situation. They need a big team of moderators to keep the forum clean and on track. So, to close up my brainfart, Cubey: DO NOT CARE about the shitheads in here. They are not worth it. The disturbed nutcases allowed in here are the results of poor judgement from LL, and it has nothing to do with you. They are simply not even worth a landing wheel on your aircrafts. We are a lot of people that LOVE your creations. I personally always look forward to your next creation. I have at least 8 of your machines, and i don't want to go anywhere else for them in the future if i can avoid it. PLEASE STAY! DISCLAIMER: Most people here are very nice! I'd say a HUGE majority is. So please don't be offended, unless you're a shithead But the way LL allows certain idiots to keep at it destroys the overall impression. I know a lot of people that are scared to post here because of all the shit they risk getting thrown at them. And that is hardly productive for the community!

Up to now, I have stayed the hell away from farewell posts. This time I have to put in my two cents.
Step away, but don't leave. Time away from SL is good. Reconsider.

Ditto to what everyone else has said. You're a huge asset to the community and it would be a sad day for all of us if you really do leave. Take a step back and a breather if you need to. You got pulled into a messy situation not of your own making. It'll pass. I hope very much that you reconsider.

There are a lot of good people in SL, they are usually shy and don't say much but they are there. Your seaplane was my very first SL puchase and I cherish it a lot and proudly display it at my home. Go if you must but remember not everyone is an asshole...

Cubey, this is the first time someone has left that I thought to myself, "Awwww HELL naww!"
Don't go =(. If you really must, take a break, but come back! That's what I did.

Cubey, As someone who went into a self imposed SL hiatus over the fall (without a drama post I might add ), I've recently come back with my batteries fully recharged and have found what made SL fun for me in the first place. My suggestion- Take a breath, enjoy RL, and don't click that 'connect' button until you get an itch. It'll come back eventually. You're one of the assets of the community, and if you don't come back, THEY will win -Bone

Cubey, I've had the same words leave my lips several times. A hiatus from SL is definitely what is called for. Pay attention to another game for awhile or focus on RL or something. If you decide to leave then my best go with you. However I have to side emphatically with the don't go crowd. There has never been a time in my second life that Cubey Terra wasn't a well known name. Not once, but practically every time you released some new invention or project, you set the bar higher in SL for content. Losing you would be a serious loss for the community. Even after having made my own fully functioning vehicles for flight, I still buy your stuff and after the use I got out of it, would buy it again at twice the price. Also you're not the type that is prone to exaggeration from what I've seen and this is not merely a "please flatter my ego" thing, you've never had anything to prove because you're that good. Anyone who says differently is who's looking for attention. (at this point I apologize for the length of this post but this is bad) Please, please, please, reconsider leaving for good. I've never stopped a soul from leaving SL, I figure if they want to leave let them go we don't need them. But you man... no, please. We have enough lame content in SL as it is without losing you.

Cubey, I took time off to go to aerobics, drive home, make dinner, and talk things over with neutral parties (family). They provided some insight to me that I thought I would share. I assure this situation is quite painful for me too and I'd like to try and make things better. I'm very sorry that you became involved in the dispute between Apotheus and Merwan. It looks like you were pulled in as a replacement after Apotheus tried to sever his contract with Merwan. From your post it seems like you need money and were counting on this deal to provide you with some. Not knowing where to direct your frustration, you lashed out at me, someone suggesting a grass-roots effort to sway Apotheus to honor his contract (albeit with admittedly inflammatory speech). Frankly it's undeserved and I think you know that. What's painful is that LL failed to lock this thread despite it being created not just to announce your departure but to specifically to attack me. Whatever modicum of "damage" I could have done to SLExchange, you have done to me ten fold and all of it undeserved. More frustrating is that in the fray we've forgotten that Apotheus should be the subject of this discussion for selling out a friend to make a buck. Not us. So here's my solution. How about I give you every single L$ I have in my account? I'll also kick in every single proprietary object I've ever made. I'll gladly turn over my land to you. I'll drop the boycott if you so request. I'll even leave the game if you feel it's too small for us to share. But you're not leaving because of me. *cry* ~Ulrika~

From: someone What's painful is that LL failed to lock this thread despite it being created not just to announce your departure but to specifically to attack me. wow. how do you get your huge swollen head out of bed in the morning? ok i'll admit at first i thought "sure you're going to leave Cubey.....riiiiiiiiight. blow off some steam and you'll be back in a few days. maybe it's a plea for attention. no need to post a don't leave message". but then Ulrika posted this self-aggrandizing bs: From: someone How about I give you every single L$ I have in my account? I'll also kick in every single proprietary object I've ever made. I'll gladly turn over my land to you. I'll drop the boycott if you so request. I'll even leave the game if you feel it's too small for us to share. please Cubey, call her on this. tell her to honor her word so we can see who's actually pleading for attention here. what a troll.

After a few hours reflection... yeah, saying "I quit" is a bit of a drama queen method of posting, and was probably hasty. Hey, I read the forums every day and learn from the best (not naming names, but you know who you are). I think what I'll do instead is take a month off. See you in 30 days, and thanks for the notes of support. It really helps to hear that. Sorry for the "drahma!!".
