What started as a few innocent threads exploring the creation of the universe has led to wild accusations that Christians are to blame for a whole host of scientific failings around the world, including the stifling of research into new scientific areas. This has unfortunately further spiralled into religeous hatred with calls to begin burning The Bible, the most religeously significant text to date for Christians.
Clearly this situation is getting worse. Exploring the creation of our universe is OK, but calls to burn Bibles are unacceptable.
I would like to call for a voluntary two week fire gap to prevent this movement of conversation spreading. Let us place the topic of religeon out of reach for two weeks, to give the forums some space to move in a different direction.
This can only be a voluntary measure, but I think it would be positive.

I think it would be much more productive to ask the person who is calling for the burning of bibles to stop with the antics. There has been plenty of good, honest, non-flaming conversations going on and I, for one, think it's been productive.

I love how it's evolved into a "bible burn" post. The original title was "destroy a bible" which stated "next time you're in a hotel, take or destroy the bible." The closest I came to combustion was stating "the little crinkly pages are perfect for packing dishes in boxes during a move or getting the fireplace going." This was followed by a website here that takes that concept over the top providing many uses for free bibles. It's recommended for its humorous content although I must warn it's a little off color. It is our First Amendment right to burn a flag, rend a bible in half, or walk on a picture of our president. They are religious and political symbols that through their destruction become transformed into a symbols of protest. I encourage the exercise of these rights even if it offends those who revere the flag, bible, or president. ~Ulrika~

This can only be a voluntary measure, but I think it would be positive. The problem is it would preclude us from having discussions such as exploring the origins of life. I would prefer we avoid making statements that are meant to upset or incite others, regardless of which side of the debate we are on.

Everyone else sees that. The Lindens confirmed that. And the poster knew it was out of line before they posted it. Hmm hmm hmm, guess THIS is one post that somebody won't be cutting bits out of that they don't like...

From: Jsecure Hanks The Bible burning post was completely out of line. On its own, perhaps. Did you not notice that it was one of a deliberately constructed set of three threads, with a purpose only revealed towards the end of the third? I wont spoil the fun. See if you can work it out. You may disapprove of Ulrika, but she's a smart cookie.

And how are we --- or, rather, you --- going to do that? Just reading your quote above upsets the hell out of me. But then, you didn't mean to upset me. And Ulrika meant to upset people. Is that right? Is that what I'm supposed to understand? And who gets to decide (and assign) intent? Answer: Well, probably Jeska, ultimately, as far as these forums are concerned. Alrighty then. That's that. *sits back, waits for the hammer to fall*

Does burning or defacing a book really upset the arch deity that much? If it did, wouldn't it be His place to judge those that burn it and not His followers'? Shouldn't his followers instead learn to love their belligerent neighbors and silently pity them for not knowing His grand benevolence?
Isn't that the way it's supposed to work?
