I love sci fi. But Battlestar just bores the shit out of me. I watched the first series and thought it painful. I watched the first few episodes of season two and gave up. I really wanted to like it - I just think it sucks donkey balls :p

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I don't know if I'd say BSG is the best EVER, but it's definitely up there. No question it's the best show on TV right now.

As for Senrenity sequals, sorry to disappoint you, Echo, but it's not going to happen. :( Originally there were supposed to be three, which would have been awesome, but the first one didn't do as well as expected at the box office, so Whedon changed his plans for the other 2 installments of his 3-movie deal. Last I heard, he's planning a Buffy movie, and a Wonder Woman movie. I guess when all else fails, hot chicks who kick ass are his cash cow.

Maybe not:

Now as far as best ever... it may be the best CURRENTLY -- but I'd put Farscape and Firefly in front of BSG any day.

Sorry but BSG is good - but predictable. Halfway through the last show I knew exactly how it was going to end. I don't really see them doing anything new.

It doesnt... look like a horse...

Yes it does. The front of it is obviously meant to resemble a horse head. A little western flavor I could deal with but that's just hitting people over the head with it. It's so gimmicky it's a little insulting. "Okay, cowboys in space. I get it!"

Aimee, I'm with you on the season finale. Fast forwarding a year was really bold (and shocking). I hope it's not a sign that they're running out of ideas already. It was a good cliffhanger though.

I loved Farscape but the ratio of filler episodes compared to ones that actually moved the story forward was pretty bad.

The Firefly ship looks to me like...well...a firefly-just look at the tail. I think that was on purpose.

Oh, and how could I forget Farscape!? That was an awesome show, but it just didn't have the depth that BSG has-but I would definitely give it a very close second. I'd love to see a big screen Farscape, too!

I love the new Battlestar Galactica. Great writing, great acting, and lots of fun suprises.

However, it is still behind Firefly and Star Trek: The Next Generation for me. Firefly was extremely well done, and to me, the cowboy element wasn't stupid at all, but enhanced the series greatly. It is the best single-season show ever and I'm still amazed that no major networks have called Joss and begged him to continue it.

I think they messed up big time on the finale. They either shifted the plot in a weird ass direction (not to mention fast forwarding on full year) or they are going to have to do a cheezy "it was all a dream" conclusion to reverse the mess they just made of the show.

I will look with great optimism for the new shows in October, but I really don't know how they are going to be able to fix what they just did with the show :(

I have to disagree. The year thing really suprised me, and I appreciated it just for that. Plus it leads us to a whole new set of circumstances for next season.

How could that have been a surprise. Once they were where they were, there was no other way for the story to go other than the way that it did. Sorry to be so vague but didn't want to post spoilers. Anyway -- completely predictable.

I can predict the first half of the next season too. I have no inside info. Its just that the way things have gone and given what they've done, it doesn't seem to me that there's any great surprises.

Hmm..not sure why you think that's the only way they could have gone, with all the possible variables involved, and since it almost didn't go that direction anyway. The "moving down to the planet" thing was certainly a real option, but the year fast-forward caught me totally by suprise.

The year fast forward was unexpected for me, but once they were moved, what happened next was not only not surprising for me... I was waiting for it to happen. I still think it's a great show and I don't know what I'll do with myself until October... If only they'd bring Xena back *sigh*

Exactly Leilany. I didn't expect the moving forward a year although I thought it was well done. But once they did that, it was pretty obvious what was going to happen.

SPOILERS BELOW!!!!

REALLY THERE ARE SPOILERS HERE... DON'T READ IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE IT!!!!

HERE BE SPOILERS!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!

I predict that Laura Roslin and Starbuck will become the leaders of the resistance. Gaius' duplicity will be revealed and he will be a pariah among the humans but the Cylons will name him liason and the humans will be forced to deal with him. The Adamas will figure out a way to get a message to the resistance and Starbuck will re-outfit a ship, taking with her a contingent of fighter pilots. Due to her skill as a pilot, she will evade recapture and destruction by the Cylons and rejoin the fleet. The fleet, now with fighter pilots, will return to save the human colony.

That was my experience with BGS as well. I was a huge Angel fan (except the last season), but Angel isn't exactly sci-fi. If it has to be in space, I'll take Red Dwarf any day. And who can forget the wonderfully bizarre L.E.X.X. ?

A horse, sitting down, with wings, and a mutilated head? Made out of metal, with flashing lights?

October. October they said. Making us wait until Oct Freakin' tober!

I won't say that the new BSG is the greatest Sci-Fi series ever, but I will say its the best one on currently. Its what happens when you get people together that write science fiction for adults. Also, we can now safely forget about the abomination that ABC sprung on us back in 80.

BTW, Serenity does not look like a horse. I was watching the movie on DVD a few weeks ago, and it dawned on me that it looked more like a bug, specificaly a firefly. It was mentioned early in the series that Serenity was a Firefly Class ship. Its all in the glowing rear end.

And two giant cancerous growths coming straight out of it's midsection.

And yes, the whole point is that it's supposed to look like a firefly. The "head" thing is the shape and position it is in because 1. the pilot needs to be able to see ahead well, and 2. it's a cargo ship and the cargo bay doors are on the front part of the main section just under the "neck." If the cockpit was lower they'd have to put the cargo doors in the back or sides... but wait, there are engines there.

I can see a resemblance to a horse, but the whole point is that it's supposed to look like a bug, which it does. The episode where their big expensive cargo was a herd of cattle was just for humor.

I haven't seen it but are you saying that it beats James T Kirk and Mr Spock? I suppose anything is possible but...

It's just not possible. Capt James Tiberious Kirk has never been defeated.

So I've been catching up on the second season of the new Battlestar Galactica and I have to say, this is hands down the best sci-fi show ever on television. Any other fans in here?

-Kiamat Dusk

Amen! I recently watched back to back episodes of BSG1 and BSG2. What a difference a couple decades makes!

Oh! But does anybody remember that Boxey was in the BSG2 pilot? Wow! We dodged that bullet! :D
