Why would the allmighty need to learn from his mistakes? I'm gonna use the analogy of raising a child, When a child is born it looks to its parents for guidance, the parents are not sure what is the best way to teach and raise the child so they experiment to see what works best. To the child, the parents are almighty because most children look up to their parents. I hope this can help explain it. |

Petty thieves, cleptomaniacs, maybe the occasional random murderer who did it out of passion, yes. But believe in the rehabilitation of serial killers? Umm, no. Show me a serial killer who has ever been rehabilitated. But, it's nice to know you recognize your god isn't perfect and that he needs rehabilitation, maybe there's hope for you yet. Your right, He isn't perfect. Noone is or will ever be. Now do you deny that the moral values you gained in church are wrong? You still live by them don't you? |

Your right, He isn't perfect. Noone is or will ever be. Now do you deny that the moral values you gained in church are wrong? You still live by them don't you? I gained my moral values from my life experiences, not from a church. It doesn't take a flashing neon sign to say, "Theft is bad! Murder is bad!" The moral values I've learned are no different than the moral values of my friends who've never attended church a day in their lives. It's quite safe to say, whether people go to church or not has nothing to do with moral outlook. My daughter has never been to church a day in her life, never read the bible, she's Wiccan, and has more concern, morals, and common sense than anybody I can say I've ever attended church with. |

Could we please stop discussing religion? All it does is elect flame wars...
And Christians, Atheists, Wiccans, or whatever religion you do or don't follow, I'm sure we all have the same ideas about wars: They are generally not a good thing. Let's all please just get along, and leave everyone to their beliefs, their ideas... Discussions like this have started wars all trough history... let's just learn from the past and STOP this endless discussion. Cause there's no way in hell that we're ever going to agree on this one. |

Could we please stop discussing religion? No. But you can not read them, if they bother you. _____________________

I believe by sharing ideas and beliefs we learn to understand one another better. It makes us more tolerent, even though in the beginning it may seem messy. Wars are generally about money/greed, rather than belief system differences imho. |

I think no one should attack anyone 'in the name' of their beliefs.
Or because the other person has an other belief then they do. Cause as we all know I don't think any religion or god says 'hey lets bully and hurt other people with other beliefs' As for me...I only believe in myself and the people that I love , and that's it. As for the 'believers' if they don't like it that I don't believe in anything besides myself and the people that I love...then that is just sad for them. Cause it doesn't bother me. The first person who ever tries to push their believes on me , will get banned of my land. And that's how easily I deal with annoying people who try to pick fights for the wrong reasons. |

This thread is to discuss, rationally, the reasoning behind the Christian attacks on Athiests. What are the underlying reasons for these attacks. It's my humble opinion these attacks are used as a way make one feel important or shore up ones own belief system. I feel the same about any belief system that seeks to build up its own credibility by attacking other's beliefs. If these attacks made the attacker feel better about his/her belief system, I support their continued use. However, I don't believe anything positive can be gained by downgrading other's beliefs. That's why I don't waste my time bashing other belief systems. Discuss.... Read THE TRUE BELIEVER by Eric Hoffer -- should be required reading, once per year, from age 13 on in public schools. _____________________

Read THE TRUE BELIEVER by Eric Hoffer -- should be required reading, once per year, from age 13 on in public schools. So, can I suggest a few books that I'm sure you would have no trouble with your children being forced to read once a year? Or is this a "my views only" type thing? _____________________

So, can I suggest a few books that I'm sure you would have no trouble with your children being forced to read once a year? Or is this a "my views only" type thing? I don't believe that ANY book should be Required, or that anyone should be "Forced to Read" Once i reached adulthood, I began to question whether my faith was true, or just Habit from years of programming. I was raised Catholic, Was never Given a choice in the Matter, at least not until i was Out from under my Parents roof. I've come to the conclusion recently, that my own Beliefs are Too much at odds with my "Faith" and i seriously need to reevaluate my whole theological position. I don't think that would have happened had i been allowed to Find my beleifs Rather than having One set of Beliefs drilled into me with neither counterpoint nor perspective with which to evaluate it. I describe myself as a Devout Catholic, My Adherance is that strong, But still, there is confusion. In the end, My Parents and the Church establishment did me no Favors. It's a sobering thought, "Do i believe, or am i just going through the Motions?" But then, I had no choice, did i? Angel. |
