actually I didn't and read the rest of the posts before making assumptions, ok?

WWJD?

I did read the whole post. She is merely stating her opinions. If you take her opinions and are offended by them, that is on you, not on her.

Jesus comes to me and He is saddened by people beating other people with Him. He asked me to tell you to stop it. He said He told you, but you didn't listen to Him because it wasn't going along with your dogma. He was very sad.

Nicely put. FWIW I think Jesus loves me a whole bunch.

WWJD? Oh what was that part that never gets mentioned, turn the other cheek? Can you explain that part and how you are expessing that in your responses? Or do they cover that in the church you go to every Sunday. Out of 52 times a year over the course of the last say 3 years, it must have been touched on.

Do you see any call for action about anything? All I said was that it made me angry, which is a base human emotion. The Bible also mentions "an eye for an eye" but I bet that slipped past you.

Actually, Christians who attack anyone are not very good Christians. They need to read that book they profess to follow a lot better.

From: Vivianne Draper
This thread is to discuss, rationally, the reasoning behind the Christian attacks on Athiests. What are the underlying reasons for these attacks.

It's my humble opinion these attacks are used as a way make one feel important or shore up ones own belief system.

I feel the same about any belief system that seeks to build up its own credibility by attacking other's beliefs.

If these attacks made the attacker feel better about his/her belief system, I support their continued use. However, I don't believe anything positive can be gained by downgrading other's beliefs.

That's why I don't waste my time bashing other belief systems.

Discuss....

That quote is from the old testament, which applies mostly to Jews. If you are a Christian, you are following the teachings of someone called Jesus, who came to change the ways of the Old Testament. His teachings say turn the other cheek.

If you want to quote the Old Testament, you would have to follow the whole thing, which endorses slavery and all sorts of things we do not find tasteful.

I still don't know what part makes you angry, that everyone doesn't feel the exact same way you do?

You have found the Lord, you are blessed. Instead of berating people in a forum over their personal beliefs, have you considered praying for them?

WWJD? You still haven't answered that question?

First, I never judged you. I was making general references to what I saw in the forums.

I am sorry you feel I judged you.

Will you pray with me?

I agree, however what really ticks me off is when people like me who go to church every Sunday, don't preach our religion unless asked to do so whether expressedly or in defense of it, get labled like this because people are often to thick to realize that only a handful of people like Pat Robertson and the WBC are responsible for that image and so they blame the religion instead of the real problem THE INDIVIDUAL.

(Yes I know that was a runon sentence but I can't think of anyway to break it up without it losing its meaning)

I think the way you feel is completely understandable, but I disagree somewhat. Any religion that encourages evangelism is bound to infringe on the rights of others, by design. Of course different Christians see it differently but those who wish to impose their beliefs on others have sufficient numbers to hold sway over everyone else. Something like a gay marriage ban, blue law, or obscenity law doesn't pass because of a few bad apples. They pass because a sufficient percentage of people believe they have the right to dictate to others how to live their ives based on what it says in their sacred texts. It seems to me that the people in the best position to combat those things are other Christians, yet very few seem to do so. It's left up to the minority whose rights are being trampled, and when gays, or pagans, or atheists, or others fight to contain the overreach of Christianity they're labeled as Christian persecutors and extremists and you don't tend to see many Christians coming to their defense. They may quietly agree and believe whole-heartedly in pluralism and equal rights and secular government, but until they show up at the polls and vote their conscience en masse, religion will continue to be defined by the extremes and by the oppression of non-Christians.

I did not berrate them about their belief, I berrated Kendra for her original post. I am a strong believer in free choice, worhsip what you want if you want to at all. However attacking a religion as her post did was a provocation in my mind and hence my reactions. If you don't like the way I reacted, I'm sorry but I won't retract it, so I guess you should pray for me as well.

I hate to quote the bible, but people using "an eye for an eye" as an excuse for revenge irk me when you can read this passage:

Matthew 5:38-42 (New International Version)

38"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' 39But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

This is one of the passages where Jesus rejects some of the "rules" from the OT. But then christianity is a buffet and you are free to pick which parts to keep and which to ignore. ;)

Did I attack a religion?

All I did was post a funny story about kissing Hank's ass.

If you felt it was similar to your religion, I certainly can't be blamed for that.

With all the other threads about one religion attacking or persecuting another. It brings to light the fact that religion is a political base. I ask you how many governments base law on the prevailing religion. How many wars have been fought because one religion disagrees with another? How many deaths of hundreds of thousands people have been justified because they belong to the wrong religion?

Humankind use religion as a tool, as with any tool it can be misused. Religion is used to lift an individual’s spirit, build community, provide education, and provide a basis for people to live in peace together. The politics of religion is one of the major caused of human destruction and suffering. Politicians use religion to control the masses, justify their views and action, and as a rallying point when they attack those whom they disagree with. Religion and politics are one and the same. The only difference is where the "authority" to lead is derived.

Awesome thread
07-11-2006 16:52
Perception is Reality!

Religion is reality for sale, the price is your Soul.

Seems to me that the term "faith" is different than the term
"trust". I like to trust when it is appropriate because it does not require that I hand over the keys to my brain.

Religion and Politics are arenas to fight over reality.
The idea is that whoever has the largest gang has the most
Power = the ability to dictate reality to other people.

I used to be 100 percent certain of what my beliefs were.
But then are not beliefs something that guide our behavior.
Because if that is true then they must not really reside at the
conscious level for many of us anyway, myself included.

In a lot of ways what people shout are their beliefs seem
much more like goals.
So what are they operationally? Maybe opinions about goals?

I think I am sure about this belief...no one should have to die
over an opinion about a goal!

Personally I think that Vitality is God. Or the Essence of it
anyway. And somehow we each have some sort of franchise
on this "shared attribute" and others such as "creativity, desire, emotion, logic etc..".

Fun thread, I think that Kendra stole the show with the
"Kiss Hank's ass story" that was classic. And there was a moral to the story as well! lol. ;)

You know, technically the Followers of Set are real life Satanists. I think you have effectively attacked Satanists, Christians, and vampires in a single sentence. Good job. :D
