From: Uma Bauhaus His opinion hasn't been told to him yet. Maybe after Sunday we'll get a response. True. I hear that all of the anti-abortion groups are still formulating a response.

I'll say this: I am completely against the idea of partial birth abortions. I think it's really sick and cruel to both the mother and the baby. The ONLY case where I think abortions that late in term should be allowed is if the mother will die unless she gets one.
Early term abortions--have at it. Morning after pill, go for it.

I saw some comment by somebody about Welfare in this thread which really has nothing to do with the morning after pill but I am compelled to make a comment. Do you know why we have Welfare? It really has nothing to do with the children or the poor people.
We have Welfare because the business community supports it. The tax money to fund Welfare is taken from the middle class and the people on Welfare spend that money to survive. Where does that money go? To the business community!
It is a free ride for the business community all around!

From: Susie Boffin It is a free ride for the business community all around! Good point! I'd rather see children starve than see money go to a grocery store.

From: Uma Bauhaus By definition welfare is a good thing. What's in question is the mechanism for its funding and distribution. I find that most people who oppose welfare do so on ideological grounds without understanding the issues surrounding funding and distribution. taking money away from me to support someone else is not a good thing to me. I struggle to feed 3 people on a teacher's salary and "you're" trying to add more mouths to my bill, hmm no thank you.

You have something against the middle class footing the bill while the business class reaps the benefits? I'll be danged. That is positively un-American.

Conservatives reduce your salary which makes you unwilling to commit to the very thing that could help you -- higher taxes. You perpetuate your own poverty.

I have something against people who want to take what I busted my ass to earn and give it to someone who is too lazy to get a job. As for all those people who say "but children will starve" I have to ask if they realize people on welfare will have kids just to increase their payouts? Welfare does not work. It only breeds lazyness.

Don't talk to me about it. Address your comments to Exxon, Safeway and General Motors. They are the ones who are getting your hard earned money.

I'm not a big fan of welfare but you can't make people not have kids and you can't let the kids starve.
80% - 84% of the US population claims to be "Christian". Insted of helping the poor they would rather buy shit from China. Perhaps when more members of the no tax paying churches step up and practice what they preach we can spend less on welfare in this country.

From: Billybob Goodliffe and I reply that I am doing something to actually earn my wages So maybe we could get some hungry children to do some work too. Maybe we should have them stack bricks before we give them a block of cheese or reduced-cost lunch tickets. After all, it seems your only condition to allowing folks to accept tax money is that they be working.

From: Billybob Goodliffe and I reply that I am doing something to actually earn my wages The same arguement could be made for all government employees. I think what she was trying to convey is that people, like me, who have no children are forced to pay for others by way of taxation. You don't like having your part of your paycheck fund welfare and others don't like funding the education of children who belong to others.
It's part of the cost of society - I personally don't mind it, though I wish I was getting more for my money instead of the dreadful results we're seeing lately. I think that has more to do with lack of proper funding and lack of parental involvement than anything else.
P.S. - I also think that welfare, as a system, is a complete mess and needs to be overhauled (workfare?), but I also think that you cannot cut off those that are using it for what it was intended: temporary assistance.

Annnnnnd that's why privatization of the public school system and school vouchers are such a good idea. Then that money you're paying for my kids to go to school will pay off in an educated future generation of business and public leaders, scholars and artisans, etc. These are benefits that you get to enjoy as well. Totally with you on welfare. But we need to talk about this whole Twister deal. I've got wall to wall carpetting. hehe -Kiamat Dusk ...Juro's dirty lil secret...

From: Magnum Serpentine No its not. I have no kids and I didn't mind paying for others education. You do understand, right, that those two statements (Color coded for your convienence) are in no way connected, right? I don't mind paying over a thousand dollars for a new processor for my computer, but that doesn't make it a good idea. On the flipside, I do mind paying 800 dollars to get my truck fixed, but that doesn't make it a bad idea.

From: Vares Solvang Can someone explain to me the difference between killing your baby six months before it's born and killing your baby six months after it's born?
The end result is the same, so why is one ok and the other bad? six months before it is born its not a baby-its part of a woman's body. Sisx month before it is born it does not have any legal rights as ahuman being. Six months after it its born it is person, legally and has rights.
