Ranma-

I want is to see this country improve... not backslide into corruption where our politicians push agendas that pander to the religious right. Many are afraid to stand up against their abuses of power out of fear of retaliation. That IS oppression.

We will always have corruption with us. A good exsample of this is the City of Chicago. Politics ther is about as dirty as it gets. I dont see you calling them into account for their actions? Could this have to do because they are on the left?
Sometimes I wonder if it is possible to have a goverment without the above. The corrupting influence of power and money might just be too much for us. We are after all "only human".

Oppression may be worse elsewhere, but I live here, not there.

It goes from bad to worse within our own country.

From: Jopsy Pendragon
Popular sentiments of U.S. citizens may embarass me at times.. but I don't hate Americans or America. I am frustrated that a religious group I am not a member of is strengthening their power in this country and trying to pass laws & amendments that would directly and adversely affect me.

The founding fathers did not trust the population to do the "right" thing (no pun). Like the talkmaster says "I see democracy as two wolfs and a sheep voting on what to eat for dinner." My question is which laws and amendments will have a real effect on you?

From: Jopsy Pendragon
If you have mistaken that for hatred then you aren't hearing me.

Ah do not throw in religion, dont you remember that Jimmy Carter was a religious man and not afraid to show it? a member of the religious left perhaps? Also the way the left aproaches the problem turns off so many people. I understand the right has the same problem. The interaction between the two has gotten so bad lately and is getting worse. Look at what the far left is doing in the Senate race in Connecticut. I have never seen a member of the same party slander someone as bad as they are Senator Lieberman. Talk about rude.......This is why the democrats are losing. The good Senators supporters will probally stay away from the polls if he loses. If you say no look at the Republicans and Virginia. This condition transends parties.

If you can say "You really are clueless."
Then I can say "You really are fascist."

Don't get after others for name calling when you're doing it yourself.

Said you are clueless about me which is a condition and not a name. Even if it was calling someone a fascist is so much worse. So many of my family were killed by the fascists in my ancestors goverments.

Your being a fascist is a simple fact -- a "condition," if you like -- as well. If we called you something pointlessly vicious and not necessarily supported by fact, such as a bitch, that would be namecalling. Nobody called you that. Instead, we called you a fascist because that is what you are. You want to jail people for dissent. You cheerfully support the policies of a fascist regime. By pure definition, you are, in fact, a fascist, even if you're under the mistaken impression that you aren't because you fail to understand what fascism is and what your role in spreading it happens to be.

I said other goverments do that. You should learn to pay close attention to the eigo!
Oh I really think you need to go back to school and you have earned the AR I just sent in on you. I sometimes think of my family that were killed by the Mainlanders. Sometimes it was just for "sport". Your free use of the word cheapens it and you would not know what to do when confrounted by the real thing.
Yes it seems I found another troll. What ever happened to polite dissusion?

Are you suggesting we just give up and let corruption run unchecked?

Left or right has nothing to do with me being silent about Chicago.
I'm not a constituent there... my voice and my vote wouldn't make a difference. Federal concerns, however, are a different matter.

Is Bush backing more than one potential constitutional amendment now?

At least Jimmy Carter conducted himself with some respect for the seperation of church and state, instead of trying to insert the dogma of his religion into U.S. law.

Then wouldn't it be disrespectful of your ancestors to be an obedient and unquestioning tool of the government?

Or have you've chosen the relative safety of being part of the system rather than trying to keep it in check?

If we're clueless about the 'real you' then perhaps it's your fault for mis-representing your ideals. :)

Ma'am, you have considered people on many occasions on this thread to be anti-American because they have spoken against government corruption.

You have basically told anyone who doesn't like the direction the United States is going to go move to another country.

That is going beyond simple name-calling, it is spitting in the face of people's patriotism simply because they have a different way of expressing their patriotism. Your comments that are judging people's patriotism is extremely offensive.

--------

You have said

From: someone
The secret to the Army is doing what is right while still maintaining the letter of the order while not making your superiors look bad or stupid.
So, what if your superiors are bad and stupid? Just support them anyway? According to what you've said here, the answer to you is YES. Another thing about your statement--how can you "do what's right" if you're not speaking against corruption if it exists within your superiors?? To me, THAT kind of behavior is what allows for corruption, it's turning the other cheek when people high up on the ladder do something horrible. It's really no different than the employees at Enron turning the other cheek to the corruption from the top.

The soldiers that have been willing to go to jail for many years for not wanting to go back to Iraq when they've seen what's been happening there--those people are truly patriotic. According to your statements, you believe that those U.S. soldiers that abused prisoners would be justified in their abuse --IF-- they were ordered to do such, because to go against your superior's orders would be "making your superiors look bad or stupid".

I wouldn't have chosen the words "fascist" to describe you because that has connotations behind it that usually is paired with the Nazis, and I really don't think you're a Nazi. However, I do consider you to be someone who promotes turning the other cheek at ALL costs, no matter what one's superiors (from one's direct superior to the commander in chief) are doing, and that kind of thing I think is very dangerous to a democracy. It is that kind of turning of the cheek that allowed for people like Hitler to come into power in Germany--plenty of people in the 40's in Germany knew darn well that what Hitler was doing was wrong, but they all turned the other cheek. Again, I'm not going to call you a fascist, or a Nazi, but I will say that your attitude about government corruption is the same type of attitude that let Hitler come into power.

Ranma you know honestly I can say you are a tried and true troll of the forum. You have created drama and dangled bait out to attract people. You know what buttons to push against Alex and many others, yes you have pushed my buttons but I have walked away and thought out what I was going to say. Now I cant hold my tongue anymore. I totally despise you and your views, you are a attention hogging hoodrat. Your problem is you havent made it high enouhg in the ranks of the Army to be able to yank junior enlisted people around so you come here and bait the former military into arguing with you. I am tired of seeing your troll bait here, I try so hard to aviod the threads you decide to troll into but sometimes its just hard and too tempting to just give my tow cents towards your unbelievable beliefs.

As for you saying in prior post you just blend in to avoid making your superiors appear as idiots, I was in one part of a group of men and women that didnt have a problem standing up and saying "sir/ma'am that is not right and we dont feel we can morally do that", not once did I ever get disciplined for that not ONCE! You should take a long look in that mirror in your bathroom in the morning and think am I really a sef-righteous pig? And when the voice in your head says yes dont deny and say your just like those people on the forums, but embrace this and do some much needed soul searching.

If I recieve a three day vacation from this game for this then damn it I deserved it but I am tired of you attacking people and then calling foul. One day you be faced with what is right and wrong, and I am sure you will choose what ever will save your ass.

As for you going to spend a tour in Iraq I feel for your family and all your friends but honestly how far into the major battle are you going to be? Those of us familar with the rules of engagement also know women are not to be put in direct harms way! Meaning no front line duty for you. Yes the risk of being attacked is great no matter where you are but the military is going to make sure that 99% of its women are protected.

I am done repolying to your baited responses if you feel the need to AR me then by all means so it, but remember this I find it quite amusing you find the need to AR somebody that is responeding to your baited replies and hopefully hte abuse team will also!
