Some of the details the police have released SEEM to point to a political motive, but the news report clearly is spinning the Sheriff Dept. statement, and taking it out of context.
This allows the report writer to speculate on motive, when we have only the news reports words on the circumstances surrounding the beating. This report was designed to inflame the passions about the war, and polarize Patriots against the Anti-war protest because NOW these protesters are evil enough to attack soldiers....

Way to go!!!! The media has begun to reframe the debate for the next election... Now here in Wash. we have something stupid to get a buzz off of....

I expect to see a lot more of this sleazy type of journalisim in the near future.

First, I agree with most of your statement. However, the definition you provide, I believe, is the definition of a citizen of the United States of America. I would think anyone from the Americas could be considered an American by definition.

I hate that I can't simply quote from memory the statement made by Michael Douglas' character in The American President but it involved his reasoning for being a member of the ACLU. I think that may be one of the best political quotes of all time. Sadly, too many of us forget that the it is our right and even our responsibility to disagree. The report in the OP is a form of "yellow journalisim". IMHO: THAT is sleazy. I find the blantent bias of the report offensive, because it was DESIGNED to piss people off rather than simply report on the facts of a disturbing attack of a service man. The report writer has expanded the article on speculation and innuendo. This should not have been anything more than a police blotter report, but now it's got a political spin on it, because the perp. MAY have used Anti-war slurs during the attack.... Which may or may not have any bearing on the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Point 1: The writer invites us to blame Anti-war protesters for this vicious attack.
Point 2: The only facts presented are what I would expect from reading about other road
side beatings. It appears to be an act of senseless violence.
Point 3: There is no corroborating evidence to support the writers view that this attack
was politically motivated, or was perpetrated by Anti-War protestors.

Point 4: That it happens to be a serviceman somehow makes it special, and political....

Point 5: One attack does not show a trend, which is what the writer implies....

The article quoted in the OP takes the tragic events surrounding a serviceman beaten on the side of the road and twists it into a statement against Anti-war protestors.
