SLSF Cup - Team Trials
07-04-2006 01:49

TEAM TRIALS CONCLUDE!

This week is your last chance to join a team sailing for the SLSF Cup! Clubs are actively recruiting crew throughout the various sailing fleets, so don't miss this week's scheduled regattas - keep an eye on the Second Life Sailing Federation group forum's Upcoming Events, talk to skippers on the water.

Anyone can sail, regardless of experience. Inquire with any sailing club director for more information about sailing on their team. Participating Challengers and fleet schedules include:

Buccaneer's Sailing Federation
Flappy's Marina and Yacht Club
Kazenojin Seiringu - Saturdays, Sundays 10AM SLT
Mowry Bay Yacht Club - Mondays 7PM SLT
Starboards Yacht Club - Thursdays 6PM SLT, Sundays 3PM SLT
Vagabonds Yacht Club - Tuesdays, Saturdays 7PM SLT

THE SUMMER 2006 SLSF CUP SERIES...

The Second Life Sailing Federation Cup is a perpetual challenge trophy for friendly competition between sailing clubs. Modeled after the real-life America's Cup, the SLSF Cup regatta series encourages the proliferation of sailing enthusiasm across Second Life through a season of realistic fleet and match racing between club-sponsored teams of Second Life's top sailors.

The Summer 2006 SLSF Cup season lasts twelve weeks:

10 June - 10 July - Team Trials
15 July - Challenger Act 1
22 July - Challenger Act 2
29 July - Challenger Act 3
05 Aug - Challenger Act 4
12 Aug - Challenger Act 5
19 Aug - Challenger Act 6
26-27 Aug - Challenger Cup
02-03 Sep - SLSF Cup

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Anyone! Challenger teams consist of up to four crew, with one skipper and one tactician required to sail in any particular race. The only requirement is that teams be sponsored by an active sailing club. Team trials last four weeks, and are at each sponsor club's discretion.

Can't find a sponsor club to suit your needs? Start your own! It's very easy to qualify as an active sailing club: simply agree to host six public regattas over the next six months. The SLSF is full of resourceful people eager to help new clubs get off the ground, so don't hesitate to ask.

New to sailing, but still interested in participating? Teams need crew! Inquire with the SLSF or any participating yacht club for a bounty of experienced real-life and second-life sailors raring to take new people under their wing.

Incolor, there are novice classes every Sunday in Hollywood at NOON SLT, and most Saturdays in Sanchon around 6.00 PM SLT. Other weekly sailing events include Mondays at 7 PM in Mowry, Tuesdays 7 PM in Sanchon, Thursdays 6 PM in Hollywood, and Saturday and Sunday mornings at 10 AM in Gray. :)

Thanks for the correction, Nber! That's what I get for not making it there the past couple of weeks. ;)

Correction to Myrrh's Post - for Incolor
07-12-2006 08:07
Incolor, actually the novice classes are at NOON in Hollywood on Sundays for now. Regatta at 3 pm for more experienced sailors. If you go to the dock in Hollywood, you can rent a Tako for 0 Linden's for 60 minutes. The Tako will go into your inventory. Take it and drag and drop it in the water. Since this boat is yours for 60 minutes it will let you sail it. Sit in the right rear seat and type "notecard" in the chat window. That will give you more detailed instructions. And please join us for lessons in Hollywood at NOON on Sunday.

Match Racing with VYC / 7:00 PM Tuesday August 22 2006
08-20-2006 19:47
This Tuesday at 7pm, Vagabonds Yacht Club will host an informal match racing tournament in Sanchon. Theodore Polonsky will be your Race Committee and Protest Committee.

We'll start pairs as fast as we can, hopefully 1 pair every 4 minutes, on the VYC Medium Course. Depending on how many people show up, we'll do single- or double- elimination to determine the winner. This will be a fast-paced event, and your Race Committee will give out extra karma points for keeping things moving.

We will be racing under the full ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing, plus the 3 VYC experimental rules. These are available in this forum, or from the Race Committee if you ask nice. See http://www.sailingcourse.com/ for an introduction to the rules and tactics.

The Black Flag Rule 30.3 will be in effect, modified from 1 minute to 2 minutes. This means if you are in the triangle formed by the ends of the line and the first mark during the two minutes before the start you will be disqualified.

Spinnakers prior to the start will be allowed.

The VYC Medium Course, including landmarks, is available at the Sanchon Sailing Center.

If you have any questions, or if you need copies of the VYC Medium Course or the experimental rules addendum, please arrive promptly. We will gather at 7pm, and racing starts at 7:10 sharp. Latecomers will be mocked mercilessly, but we'll probably be able to squeeze them into a later heat.

VYC Sanchon Aug 22 2006 Results
08-22-2006 22:49
VYC had a nice time in Sanchon tonight. Results are same with and without a throwout race: Myrrh Massiel wins.

We started with match racing, with the plan for doing a round robin to seed for single elimination tournament. With 4 racers, that would only be 8 races. We ran two sets, with the second pair starting 2 minutes after the first.

Race 1 was Pacifien over James, then Myrrh over Theodore.

Race 2 was Theodore over James, then Myrrh over Pacifien.

Then Jamey showed up, and we couldn't figure out a way to easily work him in, so we switched to fleet racing. I decided to adjust all pair 2 times from the previous 2 races by 2 minutes ... that's a lot of 2s! ... and just score them as fleet races.

We raced 1 race. Then Jamey crashed...hard....we waited a while, did one more race, and then everyone sat around talking about Macs and music while I did the scores.

With throwout
Myrrh: .75 .75 .75 - / 2.25
Pacifien: 2 2 2 - / 6
Theodore: 3 3 - 3 / 9
James: 4 4 - 4 / 12
Jamey: 6 6 3 - / 15

Without throwout
Myrrh: .75 .75 .75 .75 / 3
Pacifien: 2 2 2 2 / 8
Theodore: 3 3 4 3 / 13
James: 4 4 6 4 / 18
Jamey: 6 6 3 6 / 21

VYC Regatta 8/29/2006 Results
08-29-2006 21:02
In the return of the official VYC Tuesday Night Regatta, we had a light turnout but a fantastic set of races. We ran 3 short and 3 medium courses, and only had 1 crash (to my knowledge) and 1 protest that didn't get called out.

I would like to first point that I let Ida use the good machine tonight, so I was gestureless and in many cases sightless. Given that, I am very proud of how well I did. :P

Races 1, 2 and 3 were short, and races 4, 5 and 6 were long. I got tangled up in my fingers and the other boats in race 5, and withdrew.

With Throwout:
Jamey Sismondi .75 .75 .75 .75 .75 / 3.75
Theodore Polonsky 2 .75 2 2 2 / 8.75
Ida Keen 4 4 3 3 2 / 16
Espresso Saarinen 3 3 4 4 3 / 17

Without Throwout:
Jamey Sismondi .75 2 .75 .75 .75 .75 / 5.75
Theodore Polonsky 2 .75 2 2 5 2 / 13.75
Espresso Saarinen 3 3 4 5 4 3 / 22
Ida Keen 4 4 3 3 2 4 / 20

Congrats to Jamey! I'm not sure what it means that a MBYC regular is at the top of the VYC standings, unless it's a challenge to the rest of the VYC regulars to show up for racing. :)

Thanks for sailing, see you Saturday at 7 in Sanchon for the VYC Saturday Night Regatta.
