Well I'm glad this idea is not dead and buried! I think we have established London as a good place to meet, as most people can get to the place easily and at reasonable rates. OK the way I see it now is that there are a few options of getting together before Christmas (aaaah!). Here are the benefits of each: - In October: fairly soon so less waiting; weather not too bad for city tours, sightseeing etc. - In November: Garnet can participate; cheaper flights (I'm guessing) - In December: Christmas shopping in full swing (that can be a bad thing also!) Even though I'd love to meet rather sooner than later, I think November is the besst option for all of us. I would also recommend a weekend (a necessity if we want to include most people...... most of us don't live in or around London). Can we have a poll/show of hands who could meet what times? And, anyone of the Londoners volunteering for choosing a venue? A function room in a pub is fine I'd think. Also, if anyone can put someone up for a night or two, please also shout!

Okay ... a rerun of this thread I have no idea when I'm going to be available this side of Christmas but I want to start right now on organising a weekend gathering in the UK next year - to be precise, the weekend after Easter, that is to say April 22nd-23rd 2006. That should give people plenty of warning. I haven't decided what the venue will be but as the Sunday is St. George's Day you can be sure it will include something very festive! T-shirts might be involved. And weird English customs. Taking names now to get an idea of numbers.

You might as well hold it in Miami, since half of Europe will be here soon. Then I am so there!

You can count me in for April next year too.
BUT - April is half a YEAR away! I'd really like to meet this year too, hopefully in November, or even early December. I don't live in London or the UK, but am just a cheap short-hop flight away and would definitely come! Can any few from the London area decide on a date and venue, I'd gladly help with anything but the local arrangements need to be left to the locals... Please... would be great to get something rolling! Incidentally, did anyone already meet in September? How did that go? Thx, Thor

Bumping this up again.....

Hello Euro-SLers! November draws closer and we need some SE English folks to agree on a venue in or around London for a get-together! For convenience, I would suggest a Saturday so that us SLers from out of town (or country) can attend. Considering that 5. Nov. is a bit too short notice already, there are 3 more Saturdays left: 12. Nov. 19. Nov. 26. Nov.
So, come on you guys over there, please don't let us down!! Can someone of you check out a venue and set a date for this? Any volunteers? Once we have a date we can take numbers here and you can go ahead and book a function room, if at all necessary. Anything I can help with from my remote location (Dublin), just let me know! I'll be there!! Thor

Euro Linden Christmas Party!
11-21-2005 00:47
Phew, I was worried that I was treading on people's toes there, but it doesn't look like there is anything planned until Easter after all. So, if you'd like to get together in the meantime, Jack, Harry, Nigel, Data, Tesla and I would like to invite you to the Euro Linden Christmas Party in Nottingham, England on Sunday the 11th of December! Nottingham is not as big as London (a good thing?) but there is plenty of good Christmas shopping to be had, lots of great pubs and you can usually get a return from St. Pancras for ~15 quid (book it as 2 singles on Midland Mainline through thetrainline.com). If you're interested in coming please let us know on this thread: /234/04/72782/1.htmlOnce we've got an idea of numbers I'll try to organise an appropriate venue (or failing that just choose an appropriately sized pub). Cheers, Babbage.
