Hey Tiger, A Money Tree is a free object I created to help others to give back to the new users in the community. By owning a money tree, the owner commits to giving their weekly base stipend of L$500 to new users (30 days old or less). If the owner, or someone else, wants to donate to the tree it bears fruit. All of this manifests itself as L$1 bills and fruit that a new user can click on to receive lindens valued between L$1 to L$20. Sapphire How hard would it to be to recode this so you click on the tree itself to gain reward, each tree keeps a list of names of folks who have touched it as well as their age (Can limit age of course) and instead of giving money gives a certificate for a free item or service. I know there are more than a few vendors out there that have arranged for "Newbie Freebie" cards that can be filled out and items given. The reason I suggest this is as a newb I wanted a few items most ricky tick 1. Hair 2. Clothes 3. Skin Those covered the basics, all the guns, planes, choppers etc were fripery compared to those items. This would also promote economy as people tend to continue hitting vendors they are familiar with, those vendors that give the most would have the most to gain in the future. It builds a trust relationship at an early stage. I remember trying to use money trees on my 2nd day, I teleported to about 20 of them to find all but 1 picked completely clean, and that one only yielded 1L, and I think a lot of other "Newbies" are running into the same problem. This led to me getting frustrated as with my initial stipend I could afford not much, so I ended up buying L. The additional reality of the newbie (most especially males) is there is no really easy way to just jump in and make money in game other than camp also set in. I have since learned how to turn profits by simply having a decent wardrobe which I can win contests by being the best in _______. Scripting takes time to learn, as does building, skinning is probably a skill that transfers well from other style of games, but again you would still need the intial startup money to build that business before you started making money. For unskilled labor the main thing that seems to be picked up is Escorting or stripping which there is less of a call for if your a male, not to mention it offends the sensabilities of some (I have joked about it but I could never do it myself). Wow I turned an idea for a new type of tree into a neo political rant on a view of the economical situation (as seen by me a newb). May as well continue. The biggest reason that this state of affairs in is existance is because there is no JOB market in SL. In order to run a highly successful T-Shirt business in real life you may need upwards of 10-20 employees, maybe more if you run a chain that has several vendors spread around. To do it here you need the shirts, some free time, and a place to rent a stall. To those places that HAVE paid someone to be in the store to answer friendly questions, take custom orders et al, I applaud you. Not only have you given your customers an outlet for questions, but you have probably taken at least one more person out of poverty (or out of near poverty). This is not to say I haven't learned to turn a small profit in the things I do (actually its more like cost deflation than profit, I'm still spending more than I'm bringing in), this is just my observations from the first days. |

Hey Lupus - I am on an extended SL break. So I am not actively developing at this time. Your idea can be easily implemented. I suggest posting in the script or help wanted sections to see if you can find a coder to put it together for you. _____________________
