Please see the answer to my question in Linden Answers. Yard sales that follow the posted rules are perfectly okay. Feel free to post your yard sales in the Events calendar (list them under the Commercial category) as long as you follow the guidelines, which can be found on the page where you go to post events. Please don't go about AR'ing every yard sale you see on the Events calendar willy-nilly. AR yard sales only when you are certain they are not following the guidelines. Otherwise, it's just harassment, and creates unnecessary work for the Lindens. I will be holding a yard sale again, and I would appreciate people not AR'ing it. I may also be holding it WITHIN WALLS; i.e., a tag sale, which is another word for yard sale (or as we call them in my family, garage sales). C C

I think people know that a yadsale that follows TOS is NOT a problem. Again you assume people are fools...LOL. Well thanks anyway

zOMG!
Oh well, I've never AR'd an event, but considering how many of these are actually excuses to sell freebies and don't have hosts... maybe I should start. As usual, here's my disclaimer: "I've got nothing against legimate yard sales with hosts and start/end times, and I've supported them in the past."

Opinion: How very disingenuous. You read those threads, Nyx. You participated in them, as did I. And you know what all people said in them. Must you force me to do this? I mean, really.
Fact: Here, several recent excerpted posts from Flipper, in chronological order (bolding mine): ----------- 1. If you want to post on the Linden Lab events list, follow their rules... and yes, that means no yard sales. -------- 2. Quote: Originally Posted by Cocoanut Koala No, Flipper, that does NOT mean no yard sales. coco Actually, it does: Quote:Originally Posted by Jesse Linden ok all gone...no more yard sales on the calendar. Yard sales were explicitly prohibited by Jesse. 3. There's already a place to list locations that have activities without defined start and end periods: FIND ---> PLACES. That's where 24/7 tringo halls, yard sales, clubs, and stores can list. (That's where I list mine, after all.) As for yard sales being removed from the events list - let's just say LL hasn't had time to enforce their own rules; I can't blame them for not wanting to have a babysitting remove all the crap people spam on there. --------------- Opinion: Better to have ignored this clarification thread, or to post a simple, "I was wrong," if you were one of those who was wrong. Trying to turn it into an insult to me is outrageous, Nyx.

Actually, and this is a little secret, it all depends on how tidy your yard is. If you've swept up all the fallen prims into nice neat piles and got rid of the car on blocks, you're fine. Shopping trolleys full of beer cans and untrimmed Linden weeds... you're out.

Better to have ignored this clarification thread, or to post a simple, "I was wrong," if you were one of those who was wrong. Trying to turn it into an insult to me is outrageous, Nyx. But I posted because I wanted to.....and made a valid point. Do you have these types of control issues in RL as well? Control freaks make my teeth ache. You may WANT me to respond in a certain manner, does not mean I will.

Clarification: This thread is indeed about yard sales. I'm an avid yard-sale goer, and the misinformation people had that yard sales were banned was incorrect. That people were also being encouraged to report all yard sales was very upsetting. For example, Nyx wrote this, in response to FxyLdy: -------- Originally Posted by FxyLdy Moonlight I am not allowed to post my yard sales and so on. Ok, I just looked at the events list. There are others posted there. Yup there are still some that I see now. We are encouraged to AR those we now see listed. -------- Several other residents jumped on the bandwagon, all with the idea that reporting every event that had the words "Yard Sale" in it was the right thing to do. Today I got on SL to check out some textures, and noticed that there were NO yard sales listed. That could be due to the simple fact that no legitimate yard sales had been held today. More likely it is due to the fact that people have gotten the idea that yard sales themselves are banned (see quotes in posts above), and people are AR'ing them without concern as to their legitimacy (again, see quotes in posts above). Altogether, that makes people scared to hold yard sales. Day before yesterday, I believe it was, I posted the question in Linden Answers. Today, upon seeing there were zero yard sales listed, I decided it was important to post this thread. This thread is all about yard sales, exactly about yard sales, and about nothing but yard sales, and my ability to hold them and go to them in the future. It is not about your Aunt Charlie, the price of waxworks in Monoco, or any other motivation you could possibly attribute to it.

Thanks for the pointer to Torley's response, Coco .... it and the link made for very interesting reading. Particularly in the context of some of the other threads I've been seeing that seemed to me to be celebrating the demise of the yard sale.

Okay, just for the sake of argument, I've gone online just now. I'm going to visit a few places. Notice, I'm posting the host names here; this is publically available information from the FIND menu. My first stop: NEW SHOP AND YARD SALE in Selby. 10:00am - 1:00pm Host: Goodstuff Seattle 11:45am SL time: No host, in fact, NO ONE IN THE SIM. Waited five minutes, no action. My second stop: PARADISE PLAZA: Comes check out the stores and do some shopping! 11:00am - 2:00pm Host: Donnie Baker 11:52am SL time: No host, in fact, NO ONE IN THE SIM. Waited five minutes, no action. My third stop: YARD SALE!!! Everything L$10!!!!! 12:00noon - 1:00pm. Host: Tali Potato 11:58 SL time: Wow, she's here! This might be a legit event. But oh no! The first two items I look at are CREATOR: ERIC LINDEN and CREATOR: SIGGY ROMULUS; two well-known freebies being re-sold. Wow, a whole bunch of Jai Nomad (owner of the GNUbie Freebie store in Indigo) are also being sold... and Mistress Midnight's freebie, cuddle chair. NOTE: While the hostess was here when I first arrived, a few minutes early, yes, she was non-responsive to chat and has now disappeared. Another woman has shown up and I've warned her not to buy here, as most of these items are available for free at YadNi's or the GNUbie store. My fourth stop: Brand New Mall 12:00noon - 3:00pm. Host: Sherry Arnaz 12:10pm SL time: Wow, nobody home again. What a surprise. There are a few people around the sim, but none have anything to do with this event (hint: they're sitting busy in camping chairs). A scan of avatars with 96 meters of the port range shows no sign of Sherry. UPDATE: 12:13pm: She's here now, but not responding to chat. Still only two avatars in camping chairs. This is hardly any kind of event. My fifth stop: 25 New Sexy Outfits Added @ AWESOME DESIGNS! 12:30pm - 3:30pm. Host: Julia Soothsayer 12:18pm SL time: Wow, three avatars on paying dance hot spots. No sign of the host, but granted, its early. Although the event title HARDLY sounds like an event to me. Hey coco, want to make a bet on whether the "Host" of the fifth event is actually present at 12:30 SL time? How about if she is present, I'll leave the forums for a month. If she's NOT present, you leave the forums for a month. You up for it? So, I checked five places. All five were bullshit. These were the five with scheduled events during a random time during a random log in - I checked all five "yard sale / store opening" type events in Miscellaneous and Commercial during the time frame I was online. NONE were legit events. What say you, coco? Regards, -Flip

And THAT ladies and gents is why REAL honest to goodness yardsales that come around 'VERY RARELY' get a bad rap. Beacuse of these SAME fools doing this over and over again......Didn't Sherry post a thread that she had been warned once already?

How could that be? I'm going on to check it again. Go to FIND, EVENTS, type in YARD and click SEARCH (Make sure your drop down is set to ALL - these are posted under Miscellaneous, NOT under Commercial where they should be. ANOTHER offense.) Then, also check out the grand openings and new outfits - more bullshit non-events - which are also listed under Commercial. That's where "Paradise Plaza", "Brand New Mall", and "25 New Sexy Outfits" are all listed. PS: You up for the bet or what? 12:24 SL time, still no host... Regards, -Flip

Well, its 12:30pm, EVENT TIME for the 25 Sexy New Outfits. NO HOST! What a surprise. Coco, you seem to think this anti-yard sale thing is a vendetta against you. Its not. Its that yard sales are the best representation of the "No Host, Event Spamming" problem. Also suspect are "New Sexy Outfits" and "Mall Openings", to be honest. I've just gone to five supposed "events" in the category you're so vehemently defending. All five were bullshit, and all five hosts should have their event posting capabilities suspended.
12:31pm... STILL no host.
Regards,
-Flip

Findings: OK, I went back in, and there were no yard sales posted under Commercial. I looked under Miscellaneous, though, and found five. My point: My point in this thread is NOT to say that illegitimate events are fine, Flipper, and my point was never to say that illegitimate events are fine. Look in my original question to Linden Answers, and you will see that I agree with the rules as they actually are - which is that a host must be present, and the sale must have a beginning and end time. My point is to present the info by Torley clarifying that legitimate yard sales are perfectly okay. I also want to ask people to NOT report all yard sales willy-nilly without making sure first that they are actually illegitimate. I'm not here to argue with you about illegitimate yard sales being on the calendar. I'm sure there are plenty of people ready and willing to AR them. I just don't want them to AR legitimate yard sales, or to put about the idea that all yard sales are banned. I want to go to legitimate yard sales, and see them on the Event calendar, and they aren't against the rules. I also want to hold another yard sale myself, and I do NOT want to be AR'd for doing something that is not against the rules. C C

From the response of Jim earlier I feel you, coco, are creating a hysterical situation and you are misleading people. Yardsales never ever were in threat of being stopped or banned from SL.
Even if they were not on the events list it doesn't mean they are not in SL. There's hundreds of shops selling everything from a penis to plants that have never ever been on the events lists! Nobody is trying to take them away from you.
