In RL, my Player owns several weapons. I happen to be pretty damned good with a rifle. I own two of them, and I can consistently put 10 shots in an area the size of a large postage stamp at 25 to 50 yards with my .22 Marlin model 60. I'm also a decent shot with a crossbow, and I own several swords and knives and other weapons. So I don't have issues with weapons, per se...
But I don't carry them everywhere, either. I use them where it is appropriate, such as on the target range. Otherwise, they are in the gun case or on a display rack on my wall.
In SL, even if I wanted to use weapons, I would have a really hard time doing so. My system is marginal at best, my frame rate is abyssmal, and there is no way in H*** that I could get a good enough response time in-world to even begin to defend myself properly. I couldn't come close to replicating what my Player is perfectly capable of in RL. So I don't even try.
In SL, Ceera's personna and back-story is such that she really has issues with indiscriminate use of ranged weapons. Her family was destroyed by an armed mob when she was a child. She gets nervous just seeing people carrying them, and if anyone used one on her, and for some reason she was unable to get them to stop or to leave, she'd be likely to respond by putting on a shield bracelet and a fireball bracelet, and burning them to cinders with a torrent of fireballs. Her fireball bracelet is the only functional weapon that she owns.
Ceera does not, ever, go to the "free-fire sims" like Jesse. She does not willingly enter any 'damage enabled' parcel. If she finds herself in a damage-enabled parcel, she leaves as soon as she can. She prefers to stay in sims where weapons are not welcome at all.
If someone wants to wear sheathed swords or knives around her, that doesn't bother her very much. Especially if it is suitable to the persona of the person, such as a Samurai class individual.
If someone is wearing holstered pistols, or carrying other ranged weapons, that gets her nervous. She will usually politely comment that there is no need to be armed in this area, and will request that they remain in the holsters or be put away.
Start waving around a rifle or a drawn pistol or some more powerful looking ranged weapon, and she will definitely ask you to put it away. If it's in a place where she has any authority, she will enforce that as best she can. If she has no authority there, but drawn weapons are still not allowed there, she'll report it. If she can't do anything else about the drawn weapons, she will leave the area.
Anyone who shoots her or uses some sort of push weapon on her will get an AR slapped on them, instantly. She does not consent to such play, does not intentionally ever provoke such responses, and will react very unfavorably if it happens to her. Firing back would be a last resort for her. If you get her so pissed off that she feels she needs to shoot fireballs at you, then the weapons being used are the least of your worries. Because by that point, she'd be willing to bring the world crashing down around your ears.
