Some people act like if you have a weapon you're some kind of retard. Weapons are fun, for me and many others. It's not often I see alot of unarmed people hanging around.
I mainly have them for looks. Not to look "macho". Some just go well with what I wear. like the many winged and tailed people, it's more of an accessory than anything.
There's also nice secondary features on some. Like double jump (more like infinite jump) and the gravity settings on my harbinger. Than there's it's almost ridiculous features like "rez down" which is fun for the new guys in sandboxes with pop-guns. But to compete with everyone else, you need the ridiculous crap.
Do I use my guns? Of course, like I said, they're fun. But just because I'm armed doesn't mean I'm some kind of maniac who's itchin' for a ban. Are all furries really into beastality? Are all Goreans misogynists? Is every guy with lipstick on as gay as he looks? No. Everyone in SL has their thing. One of mine happens to be weapons.
Than of course there's the many clubs with weapon bans. I'd rather not disarm to dance, but it's not a big deal. However, I could still stick most any weapon's contents in 1 prim and hide it inside my AV. So I'm not sure exactly why the weapon bans are in place.
Try and think "High Plains Drifter" before you think "Demolition Man"
But anyway, back to the title, what's the deal?

Chance Abattoir prefers the Saedaku Flamebringer over the bullet-based competitors. Set the night on fire! Saedaku.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that many people who walk around with weapons DO think it's fun to shoot at unarmed people who are just minding their own business. You're being painted with the same brush, regardless of how true it is for you specifically. If you got beaten up by 50 people with blue tee-shirts, you'd develope a natural wariness of anyone in a blue tee-shirt. Being shot at, orbited, pushed, etc etc.. is a huge pain in the ass when you're in the middle of something. Sometimes it crashes our clients, or forces us to relog, and other times it just interrupts what we're doing. If someone else is armed and wants to play, then by all means, have at it. It's the shooting at unarmed and unprepared people that sullies the whole gun thing for lots of people.

I understand that, I just don't see much of it. Sometimes I'll even look for trouble, but I rarely find it.
A few of the times I've been attacked outta nowhere have been alot of fun. So long as it doesn't turn into an orbit-fest.

It's been pretty rare for me as well, but it has happened. The one time that jaded me on more than any other was when I was trying to load a vendor from scratch, in my own store, and was about 30 items into it. Some dickweed came along and shot me a dozen times, causing me to crash, and none of the work I'd done was saved. I've been leary of people holding weapons ever since. From: Arken Soothsayer I understand that, I just don't see much of it. Sometimes I'll even look for trouble, but I rarely find it. There's nothing wrong with SL weapons, (note I said SL..RL whole other issue lol). I have some and I've used them on friends and friends have used theirs on me. Months ago, before he suddenly disapeared (blew himself up maybe ) this one guy I knew would set his land to unsafe and he and would just spend an hour knocking each other to hell and back. There are valid reasons though for not allowing people to use weapons on the sims I help to manage. One is a wedding sim. Need I say more? The other sim is a social club for people in the BDSM community. They hold discussions and collarings and the occasional party. Unfortunately there are some silly children who think it's fun to target people in the BDSM community just for the hell of it. Besides, as I said, the place is set up for discussions not shoot outs. Although we may very well decide one day to spend an evening stalking each other through the trees with our own weapons just for the fun of it. But that is a scheduled event and for things like that, exceptions are made. So nothing wrong with SL weapons, just there is a time and place for them.

Nothing's wrong with weapons. What's wrong is that so many people with weapons abuse them. Like the old saying goes in RL, guns don't kill people -- people kill people. SL weapons in and of themselves aren't a problem but a lot of folks who like them are. Not everyone who has a weapon on SL is a trouble-maker but trouble-makers tend to be drawn to that which they can make the most trouble with.

Months back I was hit on in a dance club by someone and politely told him thanks but no thanks. Next thing I knew he pulled out a weapon and knocked me out of the sim. Like Jonquille said, unfortunately those of us who make rules are making them for assholes like that and it's the nice normal people who just have to go along and accept them.

Was about to say that, but Arken beat me to it. *snickers*
Someone pulls a huge shoulder-moutned cannon while wearing high-teck armor. No big deal. It's usually for looks. (I SAID "usually"!!)
But if you want a griefer weapon, you make it an invis-prim or stuff it up your -censored- to hide it.
......maybe that's why griefers whalk the way they do and are so cantankerous?.....
*goes of to ponder*

Whats wrong with weapons is that they have become too powerful for their own good. Most of the popular items are orbit guns, megapushers, shield breakers, nukes, sim crashers, etc. Remember the days of the popgun? Seburo compact Xploder? Weapons you have to actually (you sitting down?) go into mouselook, aim, and MANUALLY CLICK at your target!
Ahh.. memories.

It would be a better world w/o massive push and orbits, yes.

The "false gun analog" is when something looks like you expect it to act, but doesn't. A gun's push scripts can just as easily be put in a ghetto blaster or ice cream cone if so desired. It is the eyes that deceive! That musing aside, I have a large collection of weapons and only use them in damage-enabled areas, or... certain private islands where the owner sez it's okey (often rules are posted). Like the Community Standards sez. On my checklist: pillow smotherer. Haven't come across that yet. (!)

Im right there with you Arken, its nuts you go somewhere and they have "security" followin your like your gonna take out your AR3 and start shooting ppl on a non damage sim! Yes push and orbit are annoying but sometimes thats the only way to get rid of that annoyin lil teenager that used his dad's credit card or even betta his cell phone to get on the main grid! I agree that there is a time and a place and we sometimes have to live with rules created becasue of the uneducated person being a lilprick, but instead of makin everybody suffer lets find a way of compromise! I for one hate to attach and reattach everytime i goto a club but i do it anyway (unless i forget and nobody says nuttin)! I think the Lindens should require all places that have security to teach them the stuff to look for and how to spot a griefer from a normal person Ive been labeled a griefer because i wear guns, what kinda horse crap is that, but none the less i continue to play and frequent many clubs and businesses! What these guys need to be doing instead of sayin no guns is tell the people hey wear your guns and help us protect and make your time hear enjoyable! Then if your caught shooting somebody for no reason you get the boot! Just some of my thoughts!!!!

What happen did you spend a very frustrating day at weapons testing building something? Honestly for those of us that like to shoot and such its not a waste of SL time! I for one come to the "game" to get away from the drama of life and have fun shooting my guns or orbiting the noobs that are wel just being nOObs!(hah) Actually look me up in world i would be more than happy to show you some of my weapons, and no i wont shoot you, the time and effort the gunsmiths spend on them make them quite impressive! BTW i visisted your humble business but found nothing i couldnt live with out sorry.

From: Merlyn Bailly Ovciously someone who spends all his time playing bang-bang games. What a waste of SL time. Oh come on, you can't say it isn't fun to sneak up on your best friend while he/she is quietly alone at home and drop a little bitty bomb in their lap...hehe On our sim I'm known to randomly shoot visitors with a money gun. It drops them a few linden but at the same time it also pushes them just a little bit. I haven't gotten anyone mad at me yet. Last week we had gladiator style pillow fights with pillows that had push scripts in them. People were flying all over the place. My friend knocked my butt from one end of the sim clear over to the other end. It was so fun I was giggling like a nut in RL. I'm seriously thinking of having some kind of "hunt your best friend through the woods with a paint gun" type of event. I think it would be insane. Anyone know where I can buy paint guns that I can copy and give out??? Playing bang bang games isn't fun for you, thats ok. But for some people it is. *shrugs* Fun is in the eye of the beholder I guess.

That was my thought originally. I have something that will work. Someone else made it and it is copiable but I can't remember if it was a freebie item or not. I could get permission from the creator to modify it and keep giving it out. Just considering lazier options too.
