Too soon to tell

A shaky start for sure. But ask me in a week or two.

If there are any advantages to this upgrade, I don't know what they are. Except the map looks good.

As for the disadvantages, I'm now playing something way slower than it used to be. Shopping for textures? Ahahahahaha.

And I'm lucky at that - there is apparently a fair number of people who can no longer get on at all.

Every new release is the worst release ever.

Well, tell me what there is in it that I might notice that would be good? Besides the map.

There are a couple of new bugs in building that came along with it, I know that much.

OK, well, see, I guess those things don't apply to me, which is why I haven't noticed them.

"Fullbright" - don't know what that is.

"HUD attachments" and "rotating avatar attachments" - I guess that is something people making things to wear would like?

In which case, I won't notice those until people have started making and selling stuff with them.

The fact that we had an update earlier in the week is something I've nearly forgotten about. I'm getting a great framerate these days and I'm just digging in with the HUD now. I'm super excited about all the new shit I can build.

1.7 = tastiest release evar

edit: Yes, Lordfly, fullbright is rockin', too. I love that I can now apply that on a face-by-face basis. Should save a few prims here and there.

Nifty HUD stuff and rotating attachments don't work too well if even your empty while loop can't get past 10 iterations/second.

Never said it was infinite, stated it was empty. :) And it has nothing to do with rotations...

Naw 1.5 or 1.6 seemed far worse. I can't remember that far back but I know it was one of them.

I've only been through two upgrades, 1.6 and 1.7. 1.6 seemed far worse. There's more to 1.7 than just the HUD, fullbright and rotating attachments too. There's also a lot of under the hood sim upgrades that so far seem to have made everything significantly faster. (now if they'd only get a decent programming language that didn't spend half it's time working around itself, but I digress.) Once they fix texture loading, I think it'll all be good. My only complaint right now is that they mide shiny ugly, but I'm hoping they address that too.

mmm, a few days ago i would have been really -ve but now...

plusses

+ The Mac client has much less lag, much faster than 1.6 !

+ Multi select/drag in inventory

+ Great map

+ Fullbright

+ No camera wobble

+ Cant accidentally move things that shouldnt be moveable.

+ Attachments dont block view when crossing sim boundaries.

+ Scriptable rotations in attachments

minusessessess

- Cache problems/bugs causing regular crashing when cache fills up

- Slow teleport

plusses win !

1.5 takes the cake, but then I am kinda fuzzy on what 1.4 was like, and if I was even around for 1.3.....

Coco, you can choose "full bright" in the texture window to have individual faces show as bright without spilling light over onto everything the way "light" does. You don't have to set the entire prim that way - it can go face by face. Very nice! It results in a better world for those in local-lighting - and less lag for everyone.

OK, I'll look for that! I don't think I get to have local lighting, though, so maybe that won't work for me.

Don't need local lighting for Full bright, I don't think. And it doesn't create lag like Light objects do.

The multi-select has proven to be my best friend with the amount of textures I upload and sort. Also, being able to multi-select and use Properties is great!

Once all the freakishness of crashes and lag pass from the upgrade, I'll be very happy with 1.7.
