Great ... now I have the visual of Jim Carey washing himself frantically after kissing what he was though was the female police chief, but was in fact the ex-football player

Men playing female AVs seems to set a lot of people off. Ever hear of anyone getting upset at a woman playing a male AV though? Color me curious

You know, I bet your results on percentage of female avatars played by males would come out a bit different if you're not just out for a poseball session. Males roleplaying females do seem to have a talent for the tease.

Women playing men in RL playing women in SL? Yeah, well every one of these polls just makes us want to scream.

I know of several women playing men in SL, however, none of them are into cybering (as far as I know). Then again, I'm not really into cybering either, so maybe I just don't know!

I, personally, don't care who is what in person. As mentioned in another thread, I'm an equal opportunity pervert. XD

Perhaps the poll might be better if it asked: How many people in SL are going to be tricksy, - rather than - How many people in SL are going to be Trixie?

From: FlipperPA Peregrine A couple of thoughts:
I think a way to prove RL gender would be handy, and save some heartache I've seen in the past, while allowing those who still want to role play the ability to do so.
If I remember correctly, I think Philip said the split between RL gender was about 38% female, and 62% male, however, females tend to play more hours per week, so the amount of avatars in world at any time is about a 50/50 RL gender split.
On the other hand, those numbers are a bit like the overall account numbers: misleading, and for the same reasons. I mean, I don't even remember what gender I gave for my alt accounts - they get no use other than as group placeholders. The male segment undoubtedly includes many "leet gamer" types who logged onto SL, found there to be depressingly few things to zap and shoved off.... but the account still counts for statistics. My feeling - although it's statistically useless, admittedly - is that the split is male-slanted but relatively even as online stuff goes when counting avatars that actually participate and use SL on a day to day basis. However, I also suspect cross-gender play is frequent in both men and women, and if there is a slightly higher percentage of men this accounts for the 50/50 split that "appears" to be true.

Regards,
-Flip I think you're right Flip. I also know a few women playing men in SL and none of them are doing it for sex. It's more about role playing or indeed "hiding" from sexual situations, because they dont want to be bothered. What better way to avoid all those idiot young men looking for sex than to be a male avatar with "happily married" in the profile?

From: Lveran Koolhaas I would think there are more females playing male toons really. Most of the guys that my girlfriend run across in the game are dogs and automaticly asking for sex ball sessions. I know that would get annoying if i was a girl.So i would think there are a lot of women playing male toons for the peace and quiet <Sarcasm>Theoretically, that wouldn't be the case, because wouldn't the males playing as females be hounding the males/females playing as males to do the deed just because they want to see their avvys go at it? Or would the guys just be wetting themselves over watching their female avvys move around?</Sarcasm> Just a thought... ;-)

Chicken or Egg? Are there better/nicer/cooler/etc stuff for female AVs because there are more female AVs (regardless of the real person) or are there more female AVs because there's better "stuff" for female AVs?

Regards,
-Flip I think this is mistaken. First, the percentages given by LL cannot be based on anything other than the credit card info or the questions they ask when you join (*hint: names dont determine gender and people lie), so any percentages are bunk IMO. Second, there *is* actually no way to determine gender the way you think. Pictures can be faked, voices can be faked, and even if they are not, you cant tell anyway. Genitalia is not gender. You can be staring right at someones privates from an inch away in RL and not be able to determine their gender. You would need a combination hormonal/chromosonal test I think, and even then its a scale of difference, not a binary "on/off" situation.

Oh, this gets confusing. My husband usually plays as one of several female avatars. I'm usually female, but I have a male avatar I put on when I'm around hir - it's a throwback to our first meeting years and years ago. I was hired to build a house for someone, and while the build was in progress, my husband turned up to watch - so I switch to being male (more construction-worker-like!) The person who hired me politely asked if I could possibly go back to being female as she was a lesbian, and it was making her uncomfortable having a "man" around.

So you probably got hired for that construction job at least partly because you're female.
Perhaps there are lots of men in SL who use female avatars because it makes it easier to get hired, or easier to sell your stuff.
