Hi Folks

I think, based on empirical research, that at least 50% of women in SL are men.

What do you think?

Do you care?

Would you like a way to prove RL gender it preserved anonymity?

I would like to see a photo of everybodies genitalia in their profile. I demand evidence.

To be honest i think the playerbase of SL is pretty close to evenly split. not more than 0-60 either way.

Now from that supposition, what percentage of avatars are male/female/other?

and are women playing male/other avatars?

but i really don't care one way or the other.

All of my female friend in SL are male IRL. So I voted 80%.

"At the end of April accounts split 32%/68% women/men (keep in mind this reflects the gender given at registration, not the av gender)."

No one ever asked me my rl gender during registration. And I think some people here would disagree with such a black and white split, too ;)

It seems like every time I have a "poseball session" with an attractive female avatar in SL, I subsequently end up huddled in the shower, sobbing to myself as "The Crying Game" plays softly in the background. Is that just me?

The mind is better than any poseball session; but then again so are poptarts.

A couple of thoughts:

I think a way to prove RL gender would be handy, and save some heartache I've seen in the past, while allowing those who still want to role play the ability to do so.

If I remember correctly, I think Philip said the split between RL gender was about 38% female, and 62% male, however, females tend to play more hours per week, so the amount of avatars in world at any time is about a 50/50 RL gender split.

Regards,

-Flip

What if they made celebrity poptarts? Like Angelina Jolie or Billy (not Madison).

I would think there are more females playing male toons really. Most of the guys that my girlfriend run across in the game are dogs and automaticly asking for sex ball sessions. I know that would get annoying if i was a girl.So i would think there are a lot of women playing male toons for the peace and quiet

Lessee the situation ; you have a poseball session with an attractive female, which is probably good (or else you wouldn't do it).

But then you discover that the female is a male IRL, and you are very sad/shocked, bad thing.

Solution: don't try to know the RL gender, and tell the female AV you don't want to know.
No more problem. The female may be a RL female, or a RL male ; she is potentially both at the same time, like Schrodinger's cat.

I think this was discussed a few weeks ago. It might be useful take a look at those discussions for additional opinions that may not show up this time around. :)

This question is discussed constantly.

If you don't take the time to get to know someone, you only get what you see. If you want something else you should take the time to find out first.

People are jerks in relationships all the time online, it isn't any more prevalent for men playing women than it is for men playing men or women playing women.

Most men who are playing women do it because they enjoy it. Their goal is not to jump out and say "haha I got you!". In fact, they often hide it because of how judgemental others are. It hurts very deeply when someone you think cares about you becomes spiteful when they find out you're not the "right" gender in real life.

I learned to be very upfront. I put a note in my RL profile and I try to make sure that whoever I'm with knows before things go to far. It makes finding that right person a lot tougher, but it saves heartache in the end. It also means that having a quick poseball fling is probably never going to happen, which sort of sucks, since they can be fun.

Cyber an x-gender today, you'll be glad you did. ;)
