Suze, it would seem that the limit on the number of accounts has been lifted. I spend a few hours merrily registering alt after alt and the only problem I ran into was when my browser accidentally reloaded losing me the one name I was really after.
I still haven't a clue what I'll do with them.... possibly park them on dance pads and camping chairs if I can find any that haven't already been bagged. < wanders off the fire up a few old celeron boxes and hook them up onto the home network... > _____________________

I agree, I don't see how they can verify age without a credit card without asking for even more private information, which is what they seem to want to stop. Obviously, kids could still get in using their parents cards before but now what is to stop them? Ask their age? That isn't good enough. I'm afraid kids on the teen SL will hear about this and start flooding over to the adult. I hope I'm wrong. For everyone's sake, heh. According to membership details page, free basic accounts still get the $250L signup fee, provided identity is verified with a credit card. If the floodgates ARE being opened to anybody signing up, whatever their age, it would be useful if user profiles detailed this information. Regardless of fraud, weaknesses, etc., in the verification system, a 'Identity Verified: Yes' entry would put some minds at rest. Operators of some entertainment genres would probably find it useful to 'ban' based on unverified criteria too. -- Dillon |

Just for the record, I don't want someone's alt deep in my ass ... especially not an under age one... Don't you realise how unhygenic that would be??? Not to mention the fact that it would make the Lindex crash, the sky fall and various forum lurkers post in shock that they hadn't already been told about this animation!

Battling lag is fun, in a way, it's kind of like being in a club used to be. After a while it because quite annoying, though. The camp chairs usually require you to stand up to get paid, so it's not a "park 'em and count up the dollars" sort of thing. I actually got very very little linden dollars as a result of the effort, not enough to keep me doing it, but I did learn how to use AutoIt to switch from application to application in the background, checking to see if it's titled "Second Life", making a list of application handles, and then sending keystrokes to the SL windows in the background, without making them take focus, so you could still start an SL window to actually use and otherwise run the computer without too much trouble. One use for an alt is to have an account with practically no inventory, thus eliminating the minutes required for the inventory to load. Alts can also be used to have separate financial accounts to make keeping different activities separate, since we can't have separate linden checking accounts, liike we ought to be able to. Time to go. _____________________

I didn't get any signup L$ when I tested the registrations system. Nor was I asked for anything that could remotely verify my age / identity. All I had to supply was an email address. Dunno what to make of this latest move by LL. I'm not particualrly convinced by the doom-mongers on the forums either.

Made many alts. uh huh.
![]() Only thing im really worried about is the fact that ban lists will no longer be effective. After you filled up your parcels ban list, and your security ball runs out of memory, then what do you do? I don''t wana hear any "Oh dont worry it wont be that bad" cuz ive already had to deal with 3 griefers in the last 32 hours, and i barely have to handle 1 a week. _____________________

Well, I tried to do this on my own, but clearly I can't seem to script anything beyond "hello Avatar". For land owners, you can do one action that doesn't require a ban list. Eject. It would be considered cold hearted, rude, and I'm sure there's probably some stupid ToS violation that it causes (after all, heaven forbid the residents should protect themselves against griefers), but just write a security script (if it hasn't been done already) that automatically ejects any AV from your land that does not meet the minimum age requirement. |

Bah. This is going to be a fuckall festivus of griefing. I have been so busy fighting Linden's horrific QA introducing inventory bugs, etc, that I haven't even chimed in on this one yet. But you hit it on the head, and very well I might add. Yes, this is a harsh response from me... but you know what? Putting kids into an adult game is a harsh action. As I have been testing (on non-mainland no less), I have been overrun with newbies who either actively grief or are just uber-curious, wandering into my house, etc. And I live in the middle of nowhere. The clock is tick-tocking pretty loudly on what I think will be zero hour where many veteran users will end up leaving the game. The removal of age verification for an adult game may honestly rank right up there as a criminal act. Is Linden Labs trying to turn SL into another fucking MySpace? With all the latest "improvements", I am about to throw up. I am willing to give the game a chance, to see if we residents can force the newbies to behave and that Linden will agressively force out the underage and the trouble-causers. But if this crap gets out of hand... along with the latest questionable client coding practices, I can bet you this: Lots of people will not remain on SL to see their first "rez day", and many more won't stay around to see any more. All LL will be left with is a failed MMO that makes no cash, and one of the most creative online experiences I have ever seen will dissappear as a delayed dot.com bust. And why? All because someone wanted to cheat their way to an inflated user base to pump up VCs. It's just sad. |

Not only will no age verification lead to underage people playing secondlife
It will lead to an increase in people suspecting people who are 18+ are underage. And subsequent false reports of such. Its what id call a Lose - Lose situation. |

"Snow Cone" is indeed a cool name to have. Well done. Agreed. What I want to know is, why are there so many freakin' names starting with "W" and none currently with "Z". My rl husband was so sad he couldn't find a good last name to go with his first, and I'm scanning the list for him as he's barely played yet and might as well start over with an alt... |

So can you still refer someone? Yep, but you only get money if they go to premium. "Who Referred You? (Optional) If you sign up for a Premium Account your referrer will get L$2500! They will be credited according to the following schedule: # L$500 within 24 hours # L$500 at 30 days # L$500 at 60 days # the final L$1000 at 90 days. The payments will only be granted provided that both Referrer and Referree are still members. Get in world and refer a friend for Linden cash! Basic accounts no longer qualify for referral bonus. You know, I have been told by more than one person that it is possible to create alt after alt after alt, with seemingly no limit. Is there no limit, and if there is a limit, why are they not cross-referencing IP numbers? Not being a programmer myself, I must admit I don't know how much work that would be, on a software, hardware, or personnel level - perhaps someone with some knowledge in that area could expound?

Do new/barely used AVs take up that much data though? I'm sure if they took up any signifigant about then they would put a limit as to how many you can make. Now, if you make 50+ I'm sure (or hope) you would put up a flag.
