is it just me or are people's profiles becoming increasingly hostile?

I have not got to the point to make such a profile but it is tempting sometimes. Some of the people I come across are just plain rude. The main problem is there are more and more and more of them everyday. This is what happens with mass population increases. The odd ball people also increase. And the odd ball people sometime have 3-4 alts all harassing you at the same time. I really don't make a huge deal of it because the places I hang out kinda attract such people. Most regular places I visit I have little issues with people. Then again I am on for only a few hours a day. If I was on like 23hrs and 59mins a day like many people I can imagine they would get rather tired of some people.

Eh, some might think mine is aggressive at the moment. Most people just realise it's meant to be funny and send me an IM to say so Pets her rooster meaningfully ...

Aww, my profile is relatively non-threatening. Well, unless you consider the sources of the quotes. From: someone Bless the Maker and His Water. Bless the coming and going of Him. May His passage cleanse the world. May He keep the world for His people. and in my first life box: From: someone When I raise my flashing sword, and my hand takes hold on judgment, I will take vengeance upon mine enemies, and I will repay those who haze me. Oh, Lord, raise me to Thy right hand and count me among Thy saints.

Dunno if mine is hostile. I just prefer that if people IM me, to get to the meat with a long descriptive IM rather than the short, jabbing "are you there?" messages.

mine says:
Disclaimer: By reading this profile you acknowledge and understand that you have given your explicit permission for me to stalk, grief and otherwise harass you forever. No, it's no good closing it now! too late! mwahaha!
Ok, it doesn't really. But it should.

As with anything, there are degrees here. For a while I had a few "friends" who kept map-stalking me without asking. I explained that it was rude and that if they kept doing it I was going to be forced to remove their card. Most stopped at that point, but a few didn't so I removed them.
If any of you have chatted with me in SL, you know I have a good sense of humor, I normally think the best of people and it takes a lot to get me angry. Map-stalking is one of those things that makes me angry. (Right along with IMming me the *second* I log in with "Hi!", every. single. time.) So after my obligatory citation of a few lines of poetry or lyrics, I added "Warning: If you map-track me, I will remove you from my friends list" to my profile. Sonofagun, it worked. No more stalkers. I ended up taking it out of my profile last week, but I'll not hesitate to put it back in if warranted. The anger I think Ingrid senses comes from somewhere else -- people who type in all caps to make their point, or who tend to over-dramatize their own issues are (in my opinion) dealing with some self-worth issues and feel the need to overstate in order to be noticed. That's a generalization of course, but it's a pretty fair one. Doesn't make 'em crazy.

What annoys me is the ones that say something like you're a profile humper, GET OUTTA MY PROFILE. What the FUCK do you think profiles are FOR moron, if you don't want people reading it, don't have one! Sorted! I do get annoyed when people map me and TP without warning, I just think its rude and it only takes 10 seconds to IM someone and say "Hey! Whatcha doin?, want company?", but blimey, my profile is sposed to point out i'm nuts! That normally puts people off and we have entirely too few pick tabs

I've met mostly nice people in game-but honestly before I IM somebody I do look at their profile and if it has one of those "keep out of yard-guard dog present" notices I think twice before IMing or doing business. However, we've all bought some gadget and then a few months later find some odd bug or forget how to use it-and even the nastiest profiles seem to respond to a courteous IM.
This mapping thing sounds rather odd........I mean it is just WRONG to "show up" at some body's private activity without an invitation.

As I don't seek out such low forms of pleasure in SL, it doesn't bother me... but it does bother some.

I always feel like, somebodies WATCHIN' meeeeeeeeee!

Dag, I must be doing something wrong. No one stalking, IM'ing, mapping me or anything like that! Seriously though, I'm surprised to hear some cats even read profiles. I put a lil' bit of work in mine so that it had the right flow and broke people off a lil' something something about me. I don't really think people are readin' them too often. The more philosophical question is, "why do people who get bounced from your friends list get upset?" Let me digress and say on the strength of it that i'd like to keep the list to people i'm cool with as friends (read: built SOME sort of bond with The other is half is that i'm not necessarily down with any and everbody knowin' my goings on (ie. when i'm comin' and going, etc, etc). I kindly decline, offer to slide the cat a card instead, and yet, they bring the thunder. Aren't we all grown folks here? I love meetin' new people (it says so in my profile!) But, that doesn't mean I have to get down with some auto-accept on the friendship hustle do I? Truly I think that everyone has a different take on the friends function. For me, it's people in my camp in that list (and the list DOES grow). I think I should put something in my profile that says, " STOP CALLING ME BUSH". I should follow that up with Kayne Was Right.

If a profile seems hostile, I think to myself... "wow... that person's angry"... and I close the profile. I really don't let it bother me, because people in general are hostile. I'll take someone's angry profile over getting grief'd by some bumdumpling anyday.

From: Raudf Fox *snickers* It's even more fun when the griefer decides to sit on the chair you're working on...
Me: Please stop shooting at other people and move so I can finish this. Them: No. Me: Fine.. *yank chair into inventory, sending said idiot flying a wee bit away* Now, go play nicely. Them: WTF?! How u do that?! I think in cases like this, the griefer should be placed in your inventory along with the chair, doomed to spend the rest of their second life between a prim penis and a watermelon launcher.

It's the population growth...
05-30-2006 12:29
When SL was a cozy little world with 2,000 or 20,000 residents, it was possible for everybody to be open to newcomers. Hardly anybody got overwhelmed by messages or other attention. Now that we have over 200,000, it's another story; the big names in the world are now very big indeed, and it's understandable that they're getting overwhelmed.

DON'T CALL ME HONEY-BUN, I'LL RIP YOUR HEAD OFF I like this part in other worlds I used to keep in my profile Don't call me hun its my biggest pet peeve. I have kept my SL profile pretty nice. But ooooooh I can't stand perfect strangers calling me hun, hon, honey lol thats reserved for my grandma or my significant other rl and sl. Its like fingernails on a chalk board. Hun hun hun hun.....drives me bonkers. But I am slowly living with it. I haven't added it to my profile I've kept my profile nice but I may have to add it. But of course I won't add or I'll rip your head off. Even though sometimes it makes me want to.

From: Khamon Fate I see dozens of profiles a month. Almost every day at least one person buys duplicates of copyable plants from Fate Gardens so I look them up via FIND to pay their refund. At that point, I'm faced with their profile. Imagine how I feel when voluteering to refund money to an unwary buyer and being told GET 43LL AWAY FRM ME U A$$. I have this same thing happen and when the money is paid to them I still get nasty IM's asking what the catch is. Grrr. .
