Mine says, summarized, "Don't spam me! That means YOU! Don't invite me to pay you rent!"

Unfortunately, it was out of neccessity. I was getting 5-10 spamming notecards, landmarks, textures and 'invites' per day before I had that in there. Now I just get that many per week. I got really, really tired of my messages being capped every day by people being kind enough to spam me with offers to pay them money.

Did you bychance offer to KNIFE people? Otherwise I think you're pretty much innocent.

Oh, I've got one of those.

At one point, as much as three or four times a week:

"omg ur slexchange terminal stole my money pls refund or i tell the lindons"

or

"hi2u can u put slexchange terminal on my club in cordova thx"

or

"hi i need u to move ur slexchange terminal on my land to the south ty"


etc.

Because, you see, I built a terminal for SLExchange. So my name was listed as the creator on dozens (hundreds?) of SLExchange terminals all over the grid.

That was so much fun.

I can totally understand those that put up Don't this and Don't that in their profile. They probably have good reasons to.
As one who is swamped with IMs every time I log in I do relate.

But I believe it is rude, and being rude is not part of my policy (Even if one of my groups is Rude Boys & Girls ), so I try to keep a friendly, to the point profile.

You wanna start banning people for hostile profiles? uh huh, that'll fly.

Oh the fine line of setting personal boundaries, to choose that point between being a doormat for people with an overdeveloped sence of entitlement and being a bitch. If someone succeeds in this, tell me how.

I'm not reffering to anyone's profile in particular, it's just a trend I've noticed. I do understand that mapping is irritating at times, as are IM's about products but there's a way of getting the point across without having to resort to ALL CAPS barking out commands at me. Doesn't give you much incentive to want to a. buy this person's product or b. have anything to do with them.

My all time favourite though is YOU CAN'T BE IN OUR GROUP DON'T ASK ABOUT OUR GROUP.

I don't care about your group. Please don't yell at me in your profile.

Sometimes it's accumulated damage from repeated events, eh? Someone gets mapped 100 times, they may blow up the 101st time it happens. Kind of reminds me of BEWARE OF DOG signs. :\

I have been a huge fan of reading profiles that say things like

"Don't expect me to be nice or be my friend. I'm not."

"I'm a bitch ... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED"

"Map me and I'll break your card"

"If u fuck with me u will b sorry"

They're just trying to represent, yo.

... I think it is really ugly. There's no excuse to be impolite to people (* at least initially). There's also no excuse to say "Well my profile SAYS I'm not going to be nice so what's YOUR problem HUH?"

I try to keep my friendly, but I do have a request asking people not to IM me as soon as I get on, so I can catch up on offline IMs, or if I'm just popping on to do something really quick and popping off immediately.

It has been my experience that a larger proportion of the SL population is mentally ill, to one degree or another, than you will encounter in RL. So that has a definite effect on the interactions you will get here. I have met some people here who range from relatively mild mental handicaps, such as being bi-polar (such as one of my very best friends in the world), to some that are so totally freaking nuts that you can't even understand what they are saying 90% of the time.

When I see a profile like the one you used as an example, I just smile and realize that here is a person that might not have both oars in the water. I just move on and let them have their space. I don't confront them or ask them about it because if they really are mental, they can't help it and making fun of them would just be cruel.

And if they aren't mental, that means they are just an asshole, so I don't really want to talk to them anyway.

Naked hostility is quite scary.

I'm guilty of this too because until I added the ~Just because I am married to Flipper doesn't mean I know his constant whereabouts and I am not his personal secretary~ clause I would get frequent IMs - Tell Flip this - Tell Flip That - Where is Flip - Can you send him a Message - When will he be online. It gets old fast...like really fast. Especially, when people wouldn't bother to say hello to me or ask me how I am doing -- it was all "where fore art thou flipper".

Other than that I like to inform people of my personal pet peeve, while my nickname is Jennyfur it is NOT ok to call me Jenny.
