$4L every 5 minutes
12x per hour = $48L
$48L x 24hours = $1152L
$1152L x 30 avies = $34,560L
$34,560 x 30 days = $1,036,800L
$1,036,800 = $5000 USD (approx)

Some locations are $4L every 10 minutes, so just cut the above figures in half

...

Even if the figure were only 20% of what you're quoting there... My God, what waste. They can't be making that back.

Yeah. Most of these chairs seem to have some kind of safeguard - max time limit to sit, only so much in a day, etc... but I really can't see the return on investment.

We were discussing this earlier, as yeah I get developer incentive, but not nearly enough to cover the amount the sim costs me per month, so, would it be a good idea for chairs.

We came up with NO!

Once it catches on, you are going to have people on your land all the time, wanting the camp out, but seriously, would the amount I gain in dwell overshadow what I would save in not giving away lindens like that, not bloody likely.

I was thinking about sticking a few out, and I mean literally 4 or 5, to help newbs, if they want to be logged on all night so be it, but I think it might just be easier to give out cash lol.

I have a small place near Klub Kali and I have watched them having the camp chairs for the past month. I would bet they were the first to have them, so maybe those curious could ask that owner if he his getting the return on his money. Im too shy.. .. .. :p

Woot ~ where is 4L every 5 min? The highest payout that I have seen is 5L per 10 min. Most seem to be 4L per 10 min.

a cyberkoan...

A monk dressed in colorful robes sitting in a chair was approached by a passerby, who said, "I have been watching you for eight hours and you've not risen. Why?"

The monk looked up at the passerby, and in turn while thrusting out a bowl of rice gruel (congee), asked, "My feet are weary so I sit. I'm also answering my Instant Messages. How about you?"

It was then that the avatar passing by turned on (BUSY), and he almost attained enlightenment.

Newbie person here again.

Before:

I had no idea how I was going to make any L$ until I learned how to make something and set up shop. Anything that would generate a little L$ in my pockets beyond my weekly allownace would help. (Newbies don't know about or where the free stuff is, right? Not until they stumble on it or someone tells them.) Stuff is expensive here. Buying L$ with USD is not an option for me. :(

Finding out about money trees and camping chairs looked appealing. Easy, no crafting and probably an opportunity to meet people and learn things.

After:

Money Trees. Now that is a task. It's like a scavenger hunt. Time consuming, boring, little return on a large investment in time. Like gambling. Odds of hitting the jackpot? Bah. Boring. Boring. Only benefit I saw to seeking out Money Trees was finding new places to go window shopping. (Too broke to buy anything but it is fun to look.)

Camp Chairs: I tried out a couple places. One was packed solid. You couldn't hardly see the chairs because there were so much stuff in there to assault your eyes. Social interaction? Nope. Zombies were in every chair. Lots of people there, no one talking. I didn't learn anything in there. I tried a few other places. All the same. Zombies in chairs.

Result:

I won't be "farming" money trees or camp chairs again. It's boring. I didn't learn anything new about how things work or where things are. And it became painfully obvious that falsely boosting the dwell for those places has created a BIG lie. People looking for a truly popular place are being misled. And it wastes your time.

Instead, a few other newbie friends and I stumbled upon a nice mall with a dance club. The owners were there and gave us a warm welcome and told us how to use the items in the club. We spent the entire evening there dancing, chatting, learning stuff. And having a good time.

That is what a popular place should be. Fun. Without the facade of zombies in chairs to make it look "hot."

Paper dolls in a scene in a box is just a diorama, yes? If I want to see zombies I will go play EQ2.

This, I think, is the way most new players will approach it. Well stated.

But then there are new players like I was, who are earning their bucks - puny though they may be - through whatever is there to earn them from, and that is good, too. I think of those places with money trees, to this day, as kind of "friends" of mine.

Excellent cyberkoan! :)

And, I have a feeling that the monk's feet will be a lot LESS weary, now that he isn't carrying shadows on top of them any longer. :D

That's gracious of you Eggy, thanxies, but no I can't take it. :o And yes I am still on a Basic account (albeit one which cost me $9.95 in US dollars instead of the later-free ones, but I digress). I've had money donated to me generously before and cash prizes too... but it's not something I felt I earned the hard way, so I donated it to others who I feel deserve it more.

Torley, through your music you have brought countless hours of joy into my life. This isn't charity, or capitalism, it is a primal human need of retribution. It has no doubt given you much pleasure to compose and share your music with people. It would give me great pleasure if you would accept some token sum. With the sheer amount of stuff you have created, i figure i owe you the price of 5 albums.
But no, I won't enrich and corrupt you... I will concoct a device that will give you L$10 from my account, that you can use whenever you need to upload a texture. Sounds fair eh?
I can limit it to one or two uses a day or something like that. I'm open to suggestions :)

I've decided to bring Abbotts into this, as it seems such a fabulous business choice. So, may I introduce the new Abbotts Aerodrome "Camp Seats"!
