I have been going out and seein alot of people staying in clubs and "camping out" to help the owner get dwell....
Some stay in roofs, other in chairs, but the main issue is that they stay in these chairs to get money, and dwell for the owner.
Do you think this is fair? Are they desperate for dwell that they cant get enough people just to come for fun?
Good idea or bad? explain!

The idea seems kind of silly to me. It can't be helping by that much, can it?

I sit in camping chairs nightly to earn some extra L$ for texture uploads. I forgot to last nite but I made L$100 the nite before. I've been travellin' around inworld to camping chairs... sometimes you see avatars having fascinating conversations because one thing it does do is place people in a locked proximity around a campfire, and outta boredom (if you're not AFK), you may get to conversing and some enlightening things can come up.

I remember thinking to myself back at the peak of the Tinies craze.... "Gee, I wonder what the next fad will be after this..." Now I know. We need a page on the History Wiki for 'SL Fads'

I remember in summer 2004 playing draw poker at Antagonist's Casino in Tan (?) and occasionally getting a few $L from a money ball. I later noticed that while there were a large number of green dots on the screen, I was the only one playing a game. The rest of the folks were sitting on the wall (no roof) and soaking up the money ball. With the removal of the rating bonus, a lot of the basic members only get the L$50 weekly stipend. This is not enough for some of those folks and if they have the opportunity to make a little money from this method, what is the harm? I would rather they have that money to put directly back into the economy instead of the club/store/casino owner just selling it on LindeX. Plus, they are "Torley Approved!" Could you really ask for a more positive endorsement???

Eggy, you might as well say that about everything I did to get enough money on a basic account to have my own house on my "own" land and otherwise live pretty well for the first three months. All of which was earned by me, the hard way - like money trees, free slots, etc., except for $1000 which April generously gifted me with. I didn't think my efforts were silly. I was grateful for the opportunity to get money here and there like that. I'm proud of what I accomplished with my efforts. As for the chairs in texture shops, why not? If there's one there, I will sit in it. And use the few bucks I make while shopping to buy yet another texture. I don't think it's right to paint people who do these things, as I did - anything and everything (well I didn't lapdance or anything, lol) to make a buck - as pathetic in any way. coco

I chose "I could care less"
It's kind of a sleezy dwell tactic, but it gets broke people money and if they want to sit in a place for hours just to make a few measly L$'s than all the power to you.

From: Eggy Lippmann Torley, that's just silly. I'll give you money, for god's sake. Are you still on a basic account? How much do you need? That's gracious of you Eggy, thanxies, but no I can't take it. And yes I am still on a Basic account (albeit one which cost me $9.95 in US dollars instead of the later-free ones, but I digress). I've had money donated to me generously before and cash prizes too... but it's not something I felt I earned the hard way, so I donated it to others who I feel deserve it more. I eat dirt. I believe in living simply—well, simply with odd watermelon frills—because I know that if I ever lose sight of my roots here in Second Life, the very instant that happens, I become evil and anti-community. I'd fail perspective of how hard it is to do some things in SL, I'd be doing "community by proxy" by making value judgments, and I'd be out of touch with virtual reality. Sitting in camping chairs teaches me humility. It teaches me the value of a hard-earned L$. It's not so much that I need the money as I want to experience this and learn something. And not only that— There's something I call the CHAIRSPHERE. It's not just about the chairs, but revolves around them. A certain sort of life within SL I've seen come up. Getting to know former strangers talk about their heartbreaks and struggles whilst we all sit on these seats of the chairsphere around a simulated campfire. It's like an impromptu support group, but without that being the formal aim. That being said, I've been joyed to participate in some convos whilst sitting in a chair, with other Basic Resis finding out this is a simple way to get money—just like Alan pointed out. It takes time, yes, but after money trees are no longer accessible (after 30 days), it's still an option. And that's what it's like here in SL... choices, options! IT IS TODAY (and some of yesterday too) I DECLARE SECOND LIFE MY RELIGION!

2 day old newbie here. And broke. What are these money trees you speak of? And how do you recognize a chair that pays you to sit in it?

And how do you recognize a chair that pays you to sit in it? money tree gives money to new players, go to "FIND" in world and type "Money tree? visit their locations.. the camp chairs, usually they are on the "popular list" at least 1 place has them.. if not all. some places have a movie theater where you can sit and earn money while watching a movie

Ooo! Thank you for the information. Interesting. And helpful. Being a newbie can be a steep and costly learning curve. Alternate means of making L$ while getting acclimated is a nice option. Thanks!
