I've broken my habbit of staying away from anywhere that isnt my work area or a friend's place today, and took a walk around the mainland as well as afew "for rent" sims that offer land parcels for rent.
Within one hour... just one hour! I've got banned, ejected, pushed, teleported home, or just plain collided heads-first with a sudden "no entry" set of red bars.
My crime?
Walking.
Just a quick dump of my chatlog from my little tour (names of places removed):
Cannot enter parcel, not member of the group. You have been ejected from this land. You have been ejected from this land. HomeSecurity Orb v5.12: You have 10 seconds to clear this area. (Psyke's Defense Systems 'HomeSecurity') Can't enter parcel, banned. You have been ejected from this land.
The list goes on.
... One hour of walking...

I know how much you hate this, CS. I had my share of wack bounce experiences when out with Oz in the snow. (Something about the snow makes some people oddly antisocial...) Nowww I must ask, didja have a chat with some of the peeps who live there? And you don't have to name names, but I wonder what their attitude was like.

Nope. Most of this was automatic.
Except for the ban. I got slapped with it while standing and IMing. Apperantly, Jedi roleplayers believe "loitering" is a shameless crime.
(yes, they said I am banned for loitering.)

If they still act like rude jackasses after a dialogue with them, then at least you know for sure.

I have found that most of the people I meet that have their land restricted are fairly new and just think it is the thing to do. I understand where this comes from with RL locking of doors and protecting your stuff, but it just doesnt really apply here in SL. No one can steal or move your stuff in SL. I think most people relax their land restrictions after being here awhile.
When you restrict access to your place you lose a few things. You lose the potential daily traffic bonus from visitors, you lose the opportunity to show off your build, you lose the ease of offering teleports to new friends, and you sort of lose face as a open friendly person. It is usually much easier to allow access to all and simply ban the troublemakers. Why punish those that have not earned it?
Restricting your land puts up ugly red bars everyone hates to see and bounce into. It is also a false sense of privacy because if someone *really* wants to see what you have at your place, its easily accomplished with use of alt focus, even from 25 meters away. Often times, restricting your place actually encourages people to be nosey and try to find out why you have banned everyone.
I would guess that 95% of the time people dont really care what you have at your place. They just want to be able to fly or walk passed without bumping into barricade lines. If you have a great place that looks interesting, whats wrong with interested people looking around and appreciating your handiwork?
But, with all that said, I do respect everyone's right to ban everyone from their land. There was a time I would really wonder why you thought it needed to be restricted, but now I dont really care. There is too much to see and do to be concerned with your reasons. Its just a hassle to be wandering around having fun and get slammed into a restricted parcel, especially if no one is even there.

Hey, come visit me. I don't have barricades (though my neighbors do, and it's very distracting). I also don't have anything noteworthy as a build but I do have an awesome view. Come sit in a chaise lounge, sip some lemonade and watch the dolphins play.

Your first sentence made me equally as sad as the rest of your post.

I never thought of it this way! The next time I'm aggravated by being summarily ejected from someone's land I didn't even know I was on, I'll just think about all the things they're missing out on and feel sorry for them, lol. coco

Little did they know.... CrystalShard Foo is far more powerful than any Jedi or Sith that ever lived...
Let's force Frag-Foo's on them and make them endure the constant fragging of Artemis and lenanna...

Well, paranoid Jedi's aside, the real problem (and topic) here is basicly that the landmasses as they are today are a quite the pretty little mazes of red-bars and a general "geit off ma lawn" attitude.
That post was a rant, I admit... but hey, for someone who barely ever posts this sort of stuff, I guess that I am entitled to blow off some steam every now and then, too. Eh?

Definately!!! Red bars on the mainland are really annoying. If people want privacy they should get thier own private island and stop polluting the mainland. Surely thier cybersex is worth the $195 a month

Sorry Crystal, I know what a pain that can be. I think Loki's post is a great one. I think this should be a topic that those who host SL 101 classes should think about bringing up. Because who knows what is in the minds of those who do this. I be *most* of them have not thought of the alternatives, or even some not realizing a person can't come in and take their stuff. I *have* heard a new person ask this before.

From: Ghoti Nyak Were these Jedi or those obnoxious Sith 'roleplayers'? Sith is an anagram of shit, ya know. That should tell you all you need to know. (I guess trolling insults about Sith and Jedi is aiming towards a seriously small minority market. Think I'll get any responses? Mebbe I should start on furries. Bigger target. Hey, are there any Jedi furries?)
