Where's Philip during this PR crisis? Too busy distilling achievables, maybe?
Well, to be accurate it's not exactly a PR crisis considering the small percentage of SL residents who actually peruse the forums regularly.

To those who are eager to put Torley on the chopping block, I would pose a question. No one here has ever had to write a corporate memo after being told what to say and signed their name to it?

Yup. and i don't turn all sour grapes and personal when someone points out that maybe am not *as* witty and amusing as my drinks-induced buzz in head is telling me...

I don't drink, sweetie. Or do drugs.
Obviously you didn't notice the OP used artwork from the same commercial. You seem to have some issue with me. Since I have no clue who you are at all --I am intrigued. Why would I have a personal problem with you? Other than you being a party pooper I mean.

Then why single her out?

Because they believe that she's the only Linden who isn't happy to be rid of the forums?

Any visible Linden management is gonna get hammered at this point. If I were in Torley's position, I'd resent having to take the heat while senior management hides.

Where's Philip during this PR crisis? Too busy distilling achievables, maybe?

Do you really want to hear him spout Lindenspeak?

That's nice. if i actually brought *your* habits up (last i checked "me" didn't mean "you" and vice versa) it'd even be relevant.

Obviously you didn't notice the OP used artwork from the same commercial.

Indeed i didn't squint to read the exact text in the OP image. So when i saw use of this imagery in your post, i found it silly for the reasons given. That it wasn't even your idea in the first place, but you were simply parrotting the OP? It doesn't make the 'original' use of it (nor your follow-up) any more apt, like i said.
From: someone
You seem to have some issue with me.

No. if anything i may have issue with people who make personal attacks on others that go well beyond 'rage against the machine' and into wide field of the "us vs them" forum mob mentality. That can include these who gleefully jump in to "turn up the heat" with seemingly zero concern for these on the receiving end of it, as long as it can score them some points in the forum game.

So it's rather issue with this sort of attitude, not specifically with you.

I don't think you have personal issue with me. Given it'd have develop over single comment in a single forum thread it'd be after all quite petty and childish. So i presumed your going ad personam and into pondering about my party skills was more about lack of any good counter argument, than anything else...

No my comment had to do with your post, darlin'.

It's like you appeared in the thread just to take a large dump in the middle of a cocktail party.

Not me. But I do know what you're talking about.

That said, the "distilled achievables" post and the one that goes with it do not deserve to get a free pass, just because there's a suspicion that the poster may have had managment breathing over their shoulder when they made it.

You take the responsability with the check.

"Pretending to be autistic"?

This is the first time I've thought something you said to be genuinely meanspirited, Ulrika.

Agreed. Until this post, I looked forward to Ulrika's words. Now? Not.

This forum is just full of assholes today.

I hear ya, Lethe. I had mixed feelings before, but after yesterday and today's behaviour I am absolutely delighted to see General and Sandbox go. This cruelty that they are calling "fun" is leaving a stench that is not going to vanish for a long time.

As the official Nemesis of Ulrika -

Bad Ulrika.

Asperger's individuals come across well in written mode such that it's often difficult (unless they have dyslexia) to identify them as Asperger's from their writing alone. Asperger's individuals also absorb the language used in their societies and workplaces. Torley's not pretending to be autistic and never was pretending.

Torley's not a sacred cow, nor is she a taboo. She's a genuinely nice person who works hard for both us and for Linden Labs.

You used an /ad hominem/ instead of addressing what she said.

Which - don't get me wrong here - "distilling achievables" is one of those things that needs translation from private slanguage to public language.

We don't always stop to do it. It sounds totally weird.

She's not a competitor. She's a cooperator.

this in not fun

are you too stupid to realize this is a funeral?

we are mourning the passing of someone

we warned them not to go towards the light, it was a trick

but they went anyway

now all that is left is an empty carcass... a brief memory of what was

a rind if you will

don't be angry with me

this is pain for us all

as we are disposable

so is the rind

you just won't know when because the forums will be closed

Seriously.
Now, I don't find Torley to be completly taboo to dis on, but y'all just hatin'.
Torley works really hard for _*YOU*_, and your experience. Sure, the Lindenspeak is sickening. But, I also don't think that Torley was the only author of that post.
S/he's doing her job, and doing a fine one at that!

What you see is a comunity having fun, before it's taken away from them. Did you really expect "business as usual"?

Lighten up and try to have some fun with the rest of us.

Don't worry. The loudmouths here will continue to be loudmouths elsewhere, and will have 10 times the amount of forums to troll.

Then argue with this guy:

the band played on, my friend, the band played on

From: Harry Chapin

Dance band on the Titanic
Sing Nearer, my God, to Thee
The iceberg's on the starboard bow
Won't you dance with me

Mama stood cryin' at the dockside
Sayin' Please son, don't take this trip
I said Mama, sweet Mama, don't you worry none
Even God couldn't sink this ship

Well, the whistle blew and they turned the screws
It turned the water into foam
Destination sweet salvation
Goodbye home sweet home

I'm in the dance band on the Titanic
Sing Nearer, my God, to Thee
The iceberg's on the starboard bow
Won't you dance with me

There was a trombone and a saxophone
The bass and drums were cookin' up the bandstand
And I was strummin' in the middle with this dude on the fiddle
And we were three days out from land

And now the foghorn's jammed and moanin'
Hear it groanin' through the misty night
I heard the lookout shout down There's icebergs around
But still everything's all right

Oh, the dance band on the Titanic
Sing Nearer, my God, to Thee
The iceberg's on the starboard bow
Won't you dance with me

They were burnin' all the flares for candles
In the banquet they were throwin' in first class
And we were blowin' waltzes in the barroom
When the universe went CRASH!

There's no way that this could happen
I could hear the old captain curse
He ordered lifeboats away, that's when I heard the chaplain say
Women and children and chaplains first

Well, they soon used up all of the lifeboats
But there were a lot of us left on board
I heard the drummer sayin' Boys, just keep playin'
Now we're doin' this gig for the Lord

I heard the dance band on the Titanic
Sing Nearer, my God, to Thee
The iceberg's on the starboard bow
Won't you dance with me

There's a wild-eyed boy in the radio shack
He's the last remaining guest
He was tappin' in a Morse code frenzy
Tappin' Please God, S.O.S.

Jesus Christ can walk on the water
But a music man will drown
They say that Nero fiddled while Rome burned up
Well, I was strummin' as the ship go down

I'm in the dance band on the Titanic
Sing Nearer, my God, to Thee
The iceberg's on the starboard bow
Won't you dance with me

It's like you appeared in the thread just to take a large dump in the middle of a cocktail party.

Funny you'd use this particular analogy. Since if anything, it seems your idea of "cocktail party" is to shit all over someone who actually puts effort in their work for the collective "you".

And if pointing it out spoiled your fun to the point you feign boredom so ou can bow out? Well frankly, good.

Torley has always had the tendency to overdo things. It should be no surprise that brevity is not the strongest point in this case either. Torley also has the tendency to seek out all the vocabulary on a particular topic and apply it to the situation at hand. Since the situation is a corporate one, it is also no surprise that this is the vocabulary that is used. Even his visual art expresses a similar technique of grabbing at everything in a kinetic fit of passion, but not necessarily with the insight of knowing how a viewer might connect to it.

If it was one of the strange, faceless Lindens writing this, I'd take it the wrong way too. But it's not. It's one of the most prominent celebrities in SL whose particularly unique approach most of us have encountered a thousand times; I don't see how these posts are unexpected or shocking. It falls within the same m.o. that Torley has always had.

I know this thread only exists for entertainment and for the catharsis of tearing down icons and taboos, but in case Torley the human being (as opposed to the symbol of Linden PR that people are tearing down) reads this thread and takes it personally, know that many of us know that you are just trying to do a good job in your own way. Don't take it too personally.

Personally, it makes me think he's trying to please his corporate superiors by using slang he thinks they want to hear. In doing so, he comes off as both a sycophant and someone who's not talking straight with their audience.

Given the grief and anger we're experiencing over the closure of the forums, this is the last thing one wants to do.

As someone who wasn't around two years ago, I think you're ill equipped to judge whether my opinion has merit or not. Frankly, I've always found the evolution of the Torley character interesting in that there have been profound changes in the persona presented and that there is a taboo in confronting the evolution of this character.

If I wish to question the foundation of this character arc I will do so and will not apologize for it. If you don't like it, you can scratch me off your dance card.
