Doesn't want to see the forums close but won't hold my breath.

This quote is why you shouldn't close the forums...goes for me as well

The quote was "I have learned so much here!"

I have too.... Maybe that is why the Lindens are closing it... We know too much now... :)

agreed & signed!!

Also be sure and go to the official BLAHg and tell them you want this open.

a new BURN *turn* thread

It has been two days since the last post there about this. I just left mine a few hours ago, but it is awaiting moderation.

Here it is for anyone interested:

From: someone
So with the petition on the forum and the obvious unhappiness of your paying residents (in one way or another) are you willing to change this policy position and let the forum remain open? I asked this before but only got a link to this blog post by someone. Is our opinion making any difference to you or will you just continue on as if we are not asking you to let it stay as is?

Unfortunately I chose poor wording there about letting the forum stay open. It is of course only the resident conversation areas effected at first. Because of that I will likely get another damn link to a blog or something telling me it is not the whole forum, again missing the point. Just like This little lazy answered gem

Blog the Linden section of the forums, fine, they're really a one-way posting anyhow, but the heart, mind and body of the forums are a thriving part of the SL culture.

The issues/features/problems that I've learned about and how to resolve in here is countless and not solely having to do with SL.

Who here hasn't gotten wind of breaking world news via the forum?

Who here hasn't found out about a benefit event for RL issues such as RFL, Katrina, etc.?

Who here hasn't learned a way to fix settings for avies, computers, networks or SL functions to better enjoy their time in SL?

Who here hasn't had a spit-take inducing laugh at least once due to something posted here?

Who here hasn't been spurred to action, debate or thought by the posted thoughts of others?

Who here hasn't "met" a new and interesting person via the forums, even if i never moves to the grid, that has enhanced their enjoyment of the SL experience?

Now, if one hasn't had a single one of the above experiences, I could see where one might not value the continuance of the forums, however, I suspect that they might be in the minority of folks that actually visit the forums.

And as with many things in life, if the forum isn't one's cup of tea, simply decline politely and move along. That shouldn't make for a cause to remove the opportunity for everyone else.

Does anyone else find it kinda odd how the Linden stance for in-world interaction "policing" is quite specifically hands-off in comparison to the forums? Guess the % of time and attention paid to one is way outta whack w/the other due to anonymity? And because of that, we should all lose out?

Damn Shame.

.

considering the cost of Bandwidth and other costs of Maintenance,
(or maybe just trying something new and different) ...
but moreover, if for no other reason, than forums being
a cesspool of excessive insults, abuse, malignment,
and unwarranted personal attacks against LL, Lindens & SL ...

or whatever their mindset is ... i would shut it down too ...

banish these self-inflated egomanical malcontents, to floating back
into cyberspace, to places of their own makings, if they so desire,
where they can reign supreme, festering and mocking, within the
shattered mirrors of their own twisted and self-aggrandized reflections ...

*h3yebh- them ... they cry foul when they cant have it both ways

why should LL support the free ride of bloated beasts of coprophaegus intent

One exceedingly excellent and oh so very clever reason there are fewer responses to that particular blog entry about closing the forums is the way the blog is purposely designed in the first place, to quickly obscure controversial announcements.

At this point (and for some time previous, I've noticed), you have to KNOW that blog entry is there to even find it.

For some time now, I've had to click on Robin's name to find it again. A new visitor to the blogs will not even know it exists!

Now that's a terrific way to hide news the customer may not like, isn't it?

There isn't even a box on the side of the main page, easily viewable at the top, like other blogs have, listing the recent headlines. Of course those, too, would scroll off into history - just not quite as quickly.

As you may know, I'm personally glad the discussion parts of the forums are being closed, having been victim to their inconsistent and preferential moderation myself, which is why I'm not signing this. I'm glad to see this crap end.

But this whole move on the part of LL to stifle their customers, regardless of the harm it does, really does disgust me. (Sorry to use such a strong word, but it really does.) I would prefer that they have official forums (with no rule threatening to take your game away for speaking), moderated by unbiased employees, or at least farm them out to Stratics or something.

And in any case, I hope they leave the Classifieds open, since those are no-reply anyway and wouldn't hurt a fly. In fact, they make SL look good.

with all the problems they ar having, i think they want to close the forums to use the hardware and bandwidth to help the sim lag... i dont think it will help much of all. I could see refining the forums to something that wont take much time on their part... but having no forums is just stupid

Good point coco! Recent comments and trackbacks are located on the side of the blog, but they're toward the bottom of the page. Maybe we can either move them up on the column, or create a 3-column format.
