Hi this is Melissa King whom most of you have never heard of but I am approaching my first year on SL and have run out of things to do. I have done the club/event scene, ran a succesful business, created everything possible, learned to script and have some deep lasting relationships but now I just find myself standing around in a daze. I guess I could get Photoshop and make clothes but that will only prolong the agony.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to get over this one year hump?

That's life, I'm afraid. SL is a simulation of real life, and just like all the other games it will get boring after awhile. Heck, who am I to speak, I just got the game today! LOL
But I must say, give it a little time - try to meet some new people!
What do you like to do in real life? Try to emulate it here and show it with the rest of the community!
Hope that helps... I wouldnt be one to have too much insight on this matter *yet*

Take a break from SL
Yes i'm serious. Take a breather, do some other stuff. After a while new ideas and projects will pop up and you'll return with fresh energy.

I guess now its easy to see why people who "have it all" commit suicide at a higher rate then the population at large.
Interestingly enough, the poorest segment of the population has the lowest suicide incident rate(s). The elderly have the highest.
By all means, find some other way to invigorate yourself before you commit SL avacide!!

One goal you could set for yourself would be to run a business empire larger than Anshe. I have a feeling that would keep you busy for awhile....

Well, in SL as in RL.. Its all about having a purpose
In RL, there always tends to be a primary purpose called "survival" In SL.. You dont need to make sure you eat and have shelter.. so ultimately staying in SL can seem a bit pointless.. Many people have that from time to time.. Take a break, play another game, try new things.
Now.. I am one of those "content creators" you hear so much about, though most of my stuff doesnt end up being sold.. I just like to play around, write silly scripts, whatever
If you are looking for a long-term reason to stay in SL, you need to find a long-term reason.. Like more obscure goals like "having fun" or "meeting interesting people".
And when that fails, fly across the mainland at random. You _will_ seen new and cool stuff, and meet interesting people.

From: Melissa King Does anyone have any suggestions how to get over this one year hump? Become a citizen of Neualtenburg. It is a layer of complexity on top of SL, providing a novel source of enjoyment for the experienced. Your skills would be of great use to our growing community. ~Ulrika~

Funny you should write about this Melissa. I also came to SL in December and feel the same way. I don't really want to log on to SL and when I do, just stand there. Its weird because up until now I have really loved every minute of SL. So maybe taking a break is the answer Alexa

I sympathise with your feelings of pointlessness but I really don't think it's possible to have created everything possible, given sufficient imagination! For SL to remain enjoyable, there has to be something you find personally fulfilling. What is it that makes you want to log on? If you don't know, then you should explore the myriad options available

Not that new of a concept, this guy had everything and this is what he had to say of it: From: Solmon, King of Jerusalem circa 935 B.C. Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
What profit hath a man of all his labor which he taketh under the sun? One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose. The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full: unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. All things are full of labor; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

Perhaps we should all form a group, get together for some meetings, and come up with strange and new things to do or events to create, or whatever. Call it something like, "Second Life Burnouts"..or Apathy Anonymous"..

Yes, I guess I can join the club, too... Have been through all the things Melissa wrote. Clubbing, going to contests, trying out many things, having fun with friends, having a partner, building, etc.
But when friends started to leave SL, or just disappear, not come on much, things began to be worse.
Now there are days when I don't even come on SL (wow, this would've been impossible half a year ago, or so). The only sure time I come on is when I hold my event (Show and Tell on Sunday, I much enjoy hosting that event), or Primtionaries maybe.
Friends? Well, I guess after you see so much friendships 'fade away', so fast, you become less eager to go out and make new friends in SL. Why? So they'll leave you next month? Or the ones who still remain, just come on less and less...
I guess things are much similar to RL, but somehow, it goes at multiple times the speed... I'd say 5-12x faster.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to get over this one year hump? Sometimes, you just need to take a break. It is really true. I have done that, and when I came back, it seem that SL is a whole new world again. If you are truely bored, you are not getting anything out of SL and you should leave. Don't log on for a month, then come back and see what you think. SL is very much like real life, sometimes you just need a vacation.

Take a break. You'll know when its time to come back when you find yourself thinking "My god, that would be so cool to make in SL..." I also second corn-streaking.

I thought David's idea was really a good one. Perhaps all those of us who feel like this should meet and see if we can't find something really interesting to do.

I find myself feeling this same way at times. Recently, I found something that gets me fired back up though. Wander around and find a n00b, someone who just started SL within the last few days. Introduce yourself and offer to show them around, hold an impromtu building class. If you want to do something more organized, hold a intro to SL, UI, or building 101 class. I have found that SL is much more rewarding when you can pass along some of your knowledge to somebody just starting out. It is so damn confusing the first few weeks, a little help can go along way.

Honestly, I've created nothing in over a year. I burned out too. It's only now I'm starting to get back on tope of it. I hope it's not so long for you.

Wow its good to know I'm not the only one logging in and just standing there wondering what to do next. Yup I'm going threw the same thing right now. I hardly bother to log in. I’ve been playing some online games, took up meditation, and origami... For me I guess part of the problem is the ideas I have take so damn long to build, its a task a huge job and well that is a turn off these days. I have been taking a break for well over a month and nothing has changed yet. I just don't know perhaps my creativity button permanently broke. It certainly doesn’t help seeing all the very creative builds not getting any recognition. Yet crappy builds and strip clubs do. Not putting anyone down here for their strip clubs just how the cookie seems to have crumbled in the land of SL. I don’t blame them they figured out what LL wants. I used to think that content creators were the heart and soul of SL, I honestly don't feel that way anymore. Lack of appreciation for everyone but the chosen few is how it is, well that sucks to this artist. Oh well their loss, right? Mar

I was really bummed out in SL and couldn't think of anything to do and I finally gave up and took a break was gone for like 3 months only lurked in forums and occasionally logged into the world to buy a new outfit. I came back like last week and am all into SL again I agree that sometimes a break is the best thing
