Since Linden Lab has done their part to support Hurricane Katrina fundraising by setting up two sims for SL residents to use as a location for fundraising efforts, the group SL Katrina Relief is taking advantage of the sims to plan a series of builds and events. ReallyRick Metropolitan is planning a Linden auction for Oct. 15 at 7PM SLT in Biloxi. Those interested in bidding should join the group SL Katrina Relief. Metropolitan has sent requests to various Lindens, asking for permission to auction them off. Updates on the Linden auction will appear in future issues of the Metaverse Messenger and here in the forums. I'm putting together a Linden Lottery. Instead of time with Lindens going to the highest bidder, the winner of time with each Linden will be selected from a pool of ticket buyers. A building group led by Billy Madison is constructing a replica of the French Quarter in New Orleans in the Big Easy sim, while another group is building a New Orleans cemetary in the sim. Other plans include providing educational notecards on the subject of New Orleans and a Mardi Gras themed Halloween party. Also on tap is a parade on Nov. 5, with floats constructed by residents. The floats will also be the subject of a competition held by Jonquille Noir. Float krewes will construct their floats, and then the floats will be voted on by other SL residents. Votes will be cast by donating $L to boxes in front of each float. The float that has raised the most most money by parade time will be named as the winner and will receive various prizes. For more details on the parade and float contest, contact Jonquille Noir. For more information about fundraising in the Biloxi and Big Easy sims, contact Katt Kongo. Everyone is invited to not only attend, but to plan their own fundraising events.

Thanks for posting, Katt. Anyone interested in building a Float for the Mardi Gras Parade, please contact me. If you have a Krewe you would like to work with, drop me an IM or Notecard with the name of your Krewe and its Members. Krewes should be between 3 and 15 people, but only 12 will be able to man the float at a time due to script limits. If you would like to build but don't have a Krewe in mind, contact me anyway and I'll try and set you up with one. Floats will have a limit of 50 prims and must be linked when they're complete. The theme you choose is entirely up to you, so be imaginitive and have fun with it. All voting will be done via donations starting on Monday, Oct. 24, so all Krewes are encouraged to solicit donations by whatever means possible. (within the ToS/CS and without being too obtrusive) I have set up a large Building Platform in the NE corner of Biloxi for those who need land to build on. The platform is set at a height of 50 so the ground beneath it can be used as well. If you would like to build your float elsewhere, that's fine as well, but all donations will be gathered in the Biloxi or Big Easy sims once the Display period has started. The schedule: Krewe sing-up - Now through Oct. 24th. The earlier you sign up, the more time you have to work on your float. Float Display - Floats will be set out to display on Monday, October 24th through Saturday, November 5th. Each Float will have its own Donation Box provided as they're set out. Parade/Mardi Gras - Saturday, November 5th will kick off a Mardi Gras style event, with Parade, party, the Crowning of the winning Krewe and other festivities. (With Crowns made exclusively for the winners by Fallingwater Cellardoor) Please contact me if you need more details.

Sand Sculpture contest?
10-03-2005 15:50
Biloxi held an annual Sand Sculpture contest every September. Any interest from event holders or the artist community to help with a virtual tribute? Any individuals or businesses care to sponsor this type of event in terms of a matching funds donation?

Some more interesting ideas have come up regarding the Katrina Relief sims. I'm already hosting the Float contest, but I thought I would throw these out in case they interest anyone else. (I know Maragaret has been brainstorming!) A riverboat style casino in Biloxi, with the proceeds all going to Katrina Relief. Could be a lot of fun to water-out some of the area and see a big red riverboat cruising by. People making masks and beads, and other Mardi Gras or cultural New Orleans style stuff to sell for charity in the Big Easy sim during the various events. Plate of mudbugs, anyone? A jazz festival! Blankets and picnics and dancing on the grass. A big Halloween party, because NOLA is a town that does Halloween up right. Anyone interested in stealing these ideas and putting them together, please so! It's all for a very good cause, and for people who could very much use the help.

I'm having a hard time identifying the owners of the Java sim which was a New Orleans sim with a riverboat jazz club. Athel Richeliuex hosted some jazz events there but does not have a name for me yet. Any thoughts or help on this?

I am putting the finishing touches on the ST. Louis Cemetary #1 in the Big Easy. That said, I'm looking for tomb plaques to give the place the added immersion it needs. If you would like a final resting place please make a donation (at least $150L) for the Disaster Relief effort in world and submit your epitaph; name, dob-dod, witty prologue to lecktor_hannibal at yahoo dot com. You may also submit a texture for your plaque if you like.
