The real world outside of SL is much bigger than the phoney world inside SL. It doesn't lag, it has much better resolution. There are more building tools in the outside world, including hammers and saws and the always pleasant modeling clay. If you make clothing in RL the fabric drapes and flutters. The outside world has liquids, which are great for taking baths and showers and going swimming in. Actual physical contact is available outside SL. You can program in more than one language outside of SL, and used an editor with a font that's big enough to see and with an indentation system that doesn't drive you to commit murder. Frequently.

How long can one expect to be fascinated by running a crude cartoon character around in a silly simulated stretch of flatland?

Probably about as long as one can expect to be entertained by delivering snarky comments about said cartoon game on said game's message board.

....what? Its entertaining!

it's a common phenomenon. Enabran had a post on the same thing recently. Roll with it, don't fight it. If a new idea or project or inspiration doesn't hit, then take a breather.

I totally hear where you are coming from. So far i have successfully been able to find new things. Lately it's been architecture. I've always been into art and art history, but not really architecture -- and that's a huge field to explore. A whole new section to explore in the bookstore! As others mentioned, taking time to help other folks is also a good way to get out of an artistic rut.

Hi this is Melissa King whom most of you have never heard of but I am approaching my first year on SL and have run out of things to do. I have done the club/event scene, ran a succesful business, created everything possible, learned to script and have some deep lasting relationships but now I just find myself standing around in a daze.

Hmm... you've created everything possible? That's amazing. And shortsighted.

Use your imagination. You learned to script? Great! Now think of something NO ONE else in SL has and do it! There was no print-format, high-resolution, full color newspaper in SL until Katt and I created one. Use that imagination, girl!!!

Oh, no! Of course noone ever can create everything possible. I think I feel the same like Melissa: yes, I also have a ton of ideas, but just no motivation to do them... Fatigue...

I guess I could get Photoshop and make clothes but that will only prolong the agony.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to get over this one year hump?
awww what is your passion? is there a group of like minded people you can hang with? are there any causes a seasond veteran like yourself can promote with your skills? Doing good deeds is always satisfying. perhaps mentoring newbies? be a roving reporter and tell us, ala Torley, of the wonderfull things you have found? photography, he asks knowingly, candid, eh? have you been a tiny and made a kids story up? been a giant robot? a dragon? roleplayed something? you can do it!! at least come to ~QotD~ and be spanked for being so naughty as to say you are bored!!! *hugs*

Send me your poor, your tired unrealised ideas for SL...

Way to boost the readership. The OP will be on the edge of her virtual seat waiting for the next edition, no doubt.

So easy to say that Phoenix.

I have always helped newbs but its not enough.

I have no bright suggestions, being in the same boat myself. However, if anyone fancies a ride around the mainland in a hot air balloon let me know lol.

If you all create a group, count me in. Of course I on the other hand never created anything due to visual impairment but hopefully some good will. Somedays I just stand in a daze, I log in less and less. Alot of people I know are gone.
Mostly I keep alive by finding places to visit, builds, and meeting people along the way. Yesterday i went to a store and found a build someone lovingly kept from burning live and had a fun time.
I am pretty tired of clubbing, and really never was much into it. I am bummed out by endless relogging and it taking forever to rezz. I sold my land and am happy to rent in a lovely place. I feel like I got one foot in sl, and one foot on the way out. Sometimes some of the attitudes bother me, sometimes mine dones.
I meet newbies as a greeter all the time, so I do see sl through new eyes....but i guess my old ones are struggling..maybe its time to take another break
