Just adding a tip here...

Once you buy a skin and do all the little tweaking to your avatar to get it just the way you want it, save that shape and drop it in the skin folder. I have a shape in each skin folder with the features that best fit the skin for my tastes, and it's much, much easier than adjusting features every time I change skins, since rarely do 2 skins make your features look the same.

I am usually in either a Second Skin Labs, or one of Hosequeen's skins. I <3 them both.

Exotica skins. Totally, out of this world, amazingly real, best in SL, amazingly wonderful, beautiful skins!

Anyone have a suggestion where to find a male skin with a *blond* beard? Or, better yet, prim beards that don't look like icicles?

Munchflower just pointed me towards her V2 skins, but I still haven't solved my beard problem.

Mavis McGettigan has very nice male skins in her Skin Flicks store... some are with blonde hair and do have a few beard options, i believe ^^;;

I <3 HoseQueen's skins. They make my av look like a porcelain doll. :)

I didn't see Haley skins mentioned.

They have tan lines and look really good on several levels without being "too" realistic.

I'm shocked that such lavish attention to detail has been applied to female skins by so many talented Makers, and yet comparitivly little effort has been put into male skins.

Wait, no I'm not ... boys are boring. ;)

I have a decent array of skins, I like to have variety for different looks, as they tend to change your face dramatically sometimes. The one I always come back to is my Hybrid II, made by Santana Lumiere of Nevermore. Others I can be seen wearing are by Gala Phoenix, Munchflower Zaius, Canimal Zephyr, Ambyance2 Anubis and Starley Therian.

You wouldn't say that if you visited Chip Midnight's CMFF or Lost Therian's Naughty Designs for starters, as I'm sure there are others! The photorealistic work on their male skins obviously took a lot of effort. :)

Well, thanks to this thread, I went and spent a small forturn last night on a skin from X2: Exotica. Well let me say this.....WOW!!! Such details! I just love it! But....I have a slight problem....I'm still about 1/2 my old skin :/ I can't seem to get rid of it. It's still saying "worn". Any thoughts?

I bought one of the XL photorealistic skins and I was surprised how realistic it is, costly but realistic. I also bought the realistic eyes.

Congrats Tatiana :) Storma's skins are gorgeous. Sounds to me like you're having a rez problem or a cache problem. First, make sure you take all items of clothing off to make sure you're not seeing something overlaying the skin. Next, go into appearance mode. If the skin looks correct in the thumbnail images but not on your avatar then you've got some scrambled cache textures. Switching back and forth between that skin and a different one will sometimes clear it, as might changing clothes. If the skin is modifiable (doubtful) making a minor change like changing pigment by 1 and then resaving will usually fix scrambled cache textures. If it stays stuck then your best bet is to contact Storma and have her send you a new one. If it's just not fully rezzing for you try moving to a different sim and switching from your X2 skin to another and then back.

Wonderful World of Male Skins
08-08-2006 08:10
Personally I have Natural Skin and it's the only one I own. If you're a guy it's tough to fine a normal, Nordic complexion skin that isn't all tatted up or otherwise way out there. And only one I could find with red facial hair similar to my own. Yeah, boring, but some of us don't see the need to have a 7'6" bulking av tatted to the max with the Mr. T starter set around our neck.

And yes, clothing is a whole other matter and I thank the lord for Blaze Columbia.

In addition to what Chip has mentioned, switching anisotropic filtering on or off in your preferences will trigger a redraw of all textures including ones worn by your avatar. This is handy if you need to obtain the same results without going into apprearance.

Two things one never sees in SL...
Tan lines, and badly applyed fake tan, you know, where the face is orange, and the neck pasty white.
I know it doesnt help in finding you a skin... its just a random thought.
Sadly there are skins made by SL members that are streaky and unblended at the seams.

When you try on the demos look at the blending at seams where the clothing templates meet to see if this is a problem with the particular skin you have on. After that look at the makeup and how it changes your avie appearance.

You cant beat Starley Therian for beautiful makeup selections!

I've been using KatanaBlade Anubis' skins since I first stumbled on the Mainland 8 months ago.

They work for me.

What if you have something specific you want?
08-24-2006 10:20
I have a tattoo on my lower back that I designed and I would love for my Avie to have it too. The problem comes in where I have no design experience yet. Should I just wait until I can do it myself or is there a shop that I can pay to have a tattoo for my skin designed for me without the possibility of someone else getting it?
