From: Ceera Murakami Among the many options on the SS Labs skins are tan lines for top and bottom, which can be chosen seperately. So your girl can look like she normally keeps her top on, or like she often sunbathes topless, with just the bikini bottom on. Just one bikini style to choose from, though. It wouls be awesome if you could get the tan lines to mathed the alpha map of your favorite swimsuit. I have a few clothing items (bikini tops and bottoms) that map exactly to my supplied tan lines. I produced them for the skin ads, and they can be seen in those graphic displays. I never intended to release them, but if there is a demand for them, I will. What I'm really waiting for are those much anticipated "extra" texture layers that can be applied for full body tattoos, tan lines, etc. Everyone tell LL to push this up on their priority list along with a better permissions system.

From: Zoe Llewelyn I am in the process of painting my male skin line now. They are not yet available though. I am expecting to release the male Neko skins this next weekend. Regular male skins will follow in a few weeks after that. There will definately be gothic skins among them. =) welp if you need a male model, you know who to call

From: Duntroon Donburi can anyone recommend any good _modifyable_ male skins? I am using a goth skin by Max atm, but none of his are mod, and id like to alter some parts and drop in a tattoo.... Create your tattoo as an underwear layer

Men's Skins?
08-07-2006 11:26
It looks like most of the posters here are female. There are so many lovely female skins out there, you gals are so lucky. I haven't found a men's skin that I really like, despite searching diligently. I've taken down a list of the products mentioned in this thread, and am going to do some more searching in-world.
But if you know a good spot for men's skins, let me know.
Max
And Men's Clothing is a whole `nuther thread!!

skins my models and i recommend to my customers - for femmes (practically everyday): celestial, SS, nevermore, pixelskin, canimal's, X2, cmff, ND, Nomine, Gala Personal favs (+ my partner): ND, Celestial, Cmff, Kru. Think taste is pretty much relative like many have mentioned - I tend to pick the skin/makeup according to mood/attire. Regardless, I'm sure there are many good ones out there that I've yet to see and will relish acquiring lol. Actually checking out some places mentioned in here that I have yet to look at. Gotta bury my wallet

From: Lucifer Baphomet Two things one never sees in SL... Tan lines, and badly applyed fake tan, you know, where the face is orange, and the neck pasty white. I know it doesnt help in finding you a skin... its just a random thought. Don't you see enough of that in real life carrying a poke of chips and wearing 'trackies'!!? Naughty Design's skins are my favourite.

From: Duntroon Donburi can anyone recommend any good _modifyable_ male skins? I am using a goth skin by Max atm, but none of his are mod, and id like to alter some parts and drop in a tattoo.... Even if you have modify on your skin, you can't "drop in" a tattoo. Skins already have their own tattoos, and if you tried to put a tat in, you would replace one of the tattoos that gives your skin its detail. What you really need is a new tattoo that COMBINES the ink you want to wear with the skin details, and to make that you would have to have the original skin texture files, which skin sellers won't give you -- well, not without paying a VERY large sum, becuase it would amount to giving you a full-permissions skin. You would also have to have a full-permissions copy of the tattoo (probably a bit easier to get than the skin, because tattoos aren't as much work), so you could download it and combine it with the skin texture in your favorite graphics program. Most of the skins that are modifyable are "semi-transparent" skins. That is, the skin lets some of the underlying color show through, so you can adjust your skin color to a limited degree with the sliders. I've also seen a couple where parts of the face are completely transparent, so the standard Linden makeup sliders can be used. Because the skin is only semi-transparent, you get a limited range of adjustment, but if you've never been QUITE satisfied with the color of off-the-shelf skins, you might find happiness with one. The other possible use of a modifyable skin is to let you replace the face makeup with third party makeup. It is possible to wear transparent makeup, such as the ones sold by Studio Lis (Lisbeth Cohen), along with an OPAQUE skin; the idea is that you adjust the skin tone sliders to make the head match the body. It's much easier if the skin creator can give you the color specs of your skin, and you'll probably want to do this only with a skin that is copyable as well as modifyable; otherwise, the original head tattoo that came with the skin will be lost and gone forever. This trick won't work well with a semi-transparent skin, because the skin tone slides will affect both the head and body tattoos, but because of the semi-trnasparent overlay in the body, they won't match.

As has been said several times, you just have to shop around and find the skin that makes you look like YOU! Your shape has a lot to do with what skin looks best. Since I like to make avvy shapes, I have a lot of skins that I play with to help make the avvies look right. I'll go through several different skins until I have the avvy shape looking just so. Then it's "Cut, Print!", and up for sale.
Even high-quality skins won't look right on certain avvies...so you just try some more skin demos, or tweak the avvy. Actually, if you do both, you can wind up with killer looks.
My personal fave is SS, which I've had made over with a personal makeup style and nice tan lines. I also like Nyte'N'Day, Celestial, Pixeldeep, and Govindra's "Le Peaux". Chip's skins are awesome, but not all avvy shapes take well to them, but when you do....Wowsa!
So open up 'Search', type in 'skin', and start trying on demos. They're cheap, it's fun, and who knows? You might find that look you just been aching to have.
Oh, yeah, before I forget. The avvy shapes I sell all have the info on the eyes, skin, and hair that I used to make the sales photo [shameless plug].

The fusion skins from X2 are pretty good detail wise and i like the makeup you get with it but im partial to black lipstick and what not hehe. Its pretty human looking. Some of Chip Midnights skins are very realistic as well. There are a multitude of great skins it just really depends on your preferences.

SS Labs has male skins too. They looked nice, but I so rarely play a male that would have any need of looking that good that I haven't bought them yet.
You want a laugh? I spend 75% or more of my time in furry avatars, but I probably spent as much on the handful of beautiful SS Labs Human skins that I own as I have on my collection of best-quality furry avatars.
For furry adult skins, look for Zoe Llewelyn's Jungle Voodoo line of Neko-girl skins, and for Nepenthes Ixchel's custom furry skins. Both sell on SL Boutique. Nepenthes Ixchel can custom match skins for other maker's avatars.

Anyone have a suggestion where to find a male skin with a *blond* beard? Or, better yet, prim beards that don't look like icicles?
Munchflower just pointed me towards her V2 skins, but I still haven't solved my beard problem.

Thanks for asking this question, Susiee. I have been wanting to go skin shopping, but with so many people making them now I really wasn't sure where to start. So I procrastinate. Now I have a few places that I will be visiting, eventually.
