My question is, if you know you are going to release a billion textured balls onto the grid, how come you dont take the ten minutes to sphere map the texture so it doesnt look so bad?

These guys are lazy as well as stupid. :)

Ain't that the truth. Truly the marque of amateurs. Then again, the whole sphere thing is so 'last month'.

Kudos to LL for containing this and preventing a grid-wide outage.

*talks like an old lady* back in my days griefers had the courtesy to make things look good and virus makers actually made viruses that did stuff.

Trailers don't have basements.

I seen some that did in my home town in Kansas back in the 80's.

I was wrong in referring to the SA Goons as a one trick pony.

So, my apologies.

They are indeed a three trick pony.

EDIT: I like Chris's response on the matter:

From: Chris Linden
We experienced a brief localized outage in the south east corner of the grid today at 5:00PM SLT. The situation was resolved by 5:45PM SLT.

Kinda like. "Yeah uh, what was that, a fly? (swat) What were we doing? Oh yes." A little subtle but well-earned gloating there I think from LL.

Well, basements are a very good thing to have in Kansas!

If you log onto somethingawful you'll find they have posted the script which causes this havok.

Have a link for that? Now I'm curious.

As would LL's legal team be, I'm sure.

I've been talking with Griefer Overlord.... he's not part of the attempted grid crash and seems like a nice guy.

His name seems provocative is all XD

Dianne actually on an off subject question. I have been trying to figure out how to sphere map in Photoshop for awhile. You happen to know where a TUtorial on that is?

You can access that link via the Second Life Herald's story about the thwarting of the attack. Happy reading!

What is more funny is that the little prank is probably in his 40's - 50's and lives in his moms, and dad's basement and has no job! :D

It is literally four lines, a rez, inventory pass and changed event. Quite a demonstration of how easy SL gives you enough rope to hang itself with.

The herald article is hilarious after Profkys non-stop personal attacks on Aimee.

Because of odd snobbery maybe?
11-23-2005 04:26
I have noticed something of a trend among these guys: they have little reverence for folks working with textures calling them "colorists" and making fun of them. So my guess would be the same odd elitism that makes them think that a little scripting skill makes them deserve to enjoy everyone else's misery. :-s *scratches head*

Anyone know a scripter for hire who likes good money and who isn't a griefer in his or her off hours? I could use one. :-) (hiring a griefer, however, is like hiring a half-trained monkey; one can be sure the second one's back is turned, the monkey will bite it hard. I recently tried this as an experiment to see if giving one a job would keep him from harassing me. It did keep him busy for a day or two, but I ended up paying for something that quit working properly almost immediately.)

I think its interesting that a mindset of the griefer persuasion would probably interpret these simple lines of code as "OMG LOL SO EAZY TO PWN SL LAFFO", instead of recognizing the flexibility, and dare I say it - inherent trust of the system.

Anyone who uses knowledge in a detrimental way never impresses me. Its easy to create chaos, its much harder to organize chaos into something meaningful.

I've always viewed griefers as intellectually lazy for that reason.

Good job, Linden Lab - you really showed your team strengths in the last 24 hours.
