proposing to eliminate yard sales from the events calendar and redirecting folks to the classifieds where they belong in most cases.
also added the following text to the ever-increasing events posting rules :
'Advertisements for commercial products or services will be deleted from the events calendar. Repeated misuse of the event posting system for this purpose may lead to disciplinary action.'

I agree that fake yard sales need to go. I never really saw a "yard sale" as an event anyway. What needs to happen is enforcement. Make the rule and enforce it!

i never really use the events calendar, but i used to and i remember a time when there were several interesting events in the top 10 - 20 listings on a constant basis. i would love to see the Events Calendar truly reflect events rather than just an announcement board for "yard sales" and other such commonalities that exist on a 24/7 basis. In the real world, you have to pay to advertise your yard sale..you should have to in sl too. The Real World should not be a model for what we do in SL in general, concidering just how screwed up it is allready. But still, thumbs up! |

If fake yard sales aren't allowed, it should be consistent for all stores not being allowed to post on the events calendar. Another thought might be to allow postings of all yard sales one time on the calendar rather than multiple postings.

A glorified 'shop' masquerading as an event aint it... There may be a legitimate 'yard sales' out there that are gonna suffer.. like DI being yanked will hurt several places that are genuinely developed! ppl will game things until the pimp hand is laid down.. then its a lil loss for everyone. A bit of the reversal of the pimp phrase: Don't hate the game... .hate the playah. _____________________
