Quick question Kendra.
![]() Does a citizen of Neualtenburg have to be a member of the guild if they just to help with the building and scripting for the city, but not actually make things to sell or host events? Does a citizen have to be a member of the guild if they just want to make items to use in their own homes in the city? Just curious where there may be a line for "neededing" to join the guild. Thanks for your help! ![]() |

Hi yall.... I would like to toss my hat into the guild as well.
The idea I have is to build an Amsterdam-style Coffeehouse somewhere in the city... a place for all the "Herbalists" to come and hang out, chat, chill out, etc. How do you all think it would fit in within the community? And what would be the prim limit for such an endeavour? I'm thinking of a shop sized no larger than an existing house in the city. Is there a specific section of the city set aside specifically for entertainment, marketplace, government buildings, residences? Or is is more organically distributed? Peace and Happy Building! I would like to be part of a guild.
I'd like to be an architect if there's room. I'm also interested in learning how to create textures. I think I have a program that could do it (Macromedia Fireworks?). To start perhaps I could do the design, and someone else could design the textures to decorate the buildings. I noticed that in almost all of the pictures of bavarian buildings on the website the exterior walls of the building actually seem to lean inward slightly as the wall progresses upward (as if the base were slightly wider than the top of the building). It would be neat trying to replicate that. I think I can do it. Texture-wise, I would like to see a bit more variety in the city than just the white with dark wooden triangles. It's a great starting place, but even just adding different colors would be a nice change. |

Question about building
12-05-2004 23:34
Just to clarify real quick. When building within a 25 prim limit need I be concerned with the contents of the structure? Will I have to take into account the prims that might be used for seating or artwork or whatever else inside the building?

Coffee haus
12-06-2004 09:05
I think the idea of a coffee house is great. I've noticed that some people in SL don't think it's cool to sit around and talk, but when you think about it sitting around talking is the core of every event activity in SL. You may be in competition with the pub, though.

Be My Meister/Question about architekture
12-06-2004 11:24
I assume Meister means Master, which has a bit of a bad connotation to it, but regardless I'm ready to jump in.
If anyone would like to be my Miester ("I" before "E" except after "C", or is it?) I'm ready to start designing. Of course, I could design first, and then search for my Miester. I could always build at my place, and transplant it later. -------------------------- Ok, here's my architektural question: Will I be working off a footprint? By footprint I mean the ground space at the base of the structure. Perhaps 10m x 10m square, or, for a more authentic feeling of tightness, maybe 8m x 10m to make the building look longer and leaner. Just wondering. I've got some plans conceptualized. I mentioned that in some of the photographs provided that the walls appear to be leaning it as they extend upward. I took another look last night, and now I think it might be an optical illusion. However, it might be fun to play with that idea anyway, and see what comes out. |

I'm ready to start designing. Of course, I could design first, and then search for my Miester. I could always build at my place, and transplant it later. Meister is a German word so there's a rule for figuring out whether something is "ie" or "ei" very easily (unlike English). If it has an "eye" sound, it is spelled "ei" like "Meister" (master). If it has an "ee" sound, it is spelled "ie" like "mieten" (to rent). The trick is that the sound matches the last letter, "ei" -> "eye" and "ie" -> "ee". Will I be working off a footprint? By footprint I mean the ground space at the base of the structure. Perhaps 10m x 10m square, or, for a more authentic feeling of tightness, maybe 8m x 10m to make the building look longer and leaner. Check out my fachwerk and you'll see that the bottom-floor windows are transparent, the next set of windows up are not transparent as they are placed where the next internal floor-ceiling is, and then the next set of windows up is transparent and looks in on the second floor. In short, each internal story is actually 1.5 external stories. ![]() ~Ulrika~ _____________________

Nice Feedback
12-06-2004 13:58
I'm diggin' the near-instant feedback.
![]() I'll restate that I'm not someone who knows offhand how to create textures. Based on what I've done in my graphics program I can imagine how texture design is formulated, but I haven't toyed with it at all to see whether or not what I imagine to be true is true. Does that make sense? If there are sample window textures I'd like a copy. If I tried to make one on my own, would it be fairly easy? It would be cool if the window panes had frost around the edges. Has anyone considered making a texture for snow-covered rooftops, or icycles (sp?) hanging from the roof? |

Hopefully that link works. Some cool pictures, though the structures look a tad drab. Here's another one with some nice pictures to work from: http://http://hide-mix.hp.infoseek.co.jp/advent2003/16/031216.htm |

Well, Rock, I'd like to ask your permission to use the upcoming coffee shop to host a few discussion events there
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I could alternate some of the events in the pub and in the coffee shop. Or perhaps do different themes in each one of them. How does that sound? (Cool, I just noticed that we're both apprentices to Ulrika, heh) Actually, it seems that I forgot to ask the pub's owner (Ursula?) for permission to host an event there. Oops. And it's going to be tomorrow (Tuesday, 2 PM PST). Just cleared it with Kendra the other day. BTW, I'd also like to host a Mentor event next Wednesday, 3 AM PST. Pendari pointed out that the area near the Spital (the spot which is still unbuilt) is perhaps better to do these events, since the Hauptplatz (btw, the main square is called Hauptplatz or Marktplatz??) is currently heavily populated with stuff - which can confusing for SL newbies. I'll just drop a few chairs there, and encourage the newbies to visit the rest of the city afterwards. And while we're talking about the Hauptplatz (Marktplatz?), Kendra has challenged me to create a contest for Christmas decorations, for Sunday. Now, after asking a little around, it seems that these types of event should be spread across a few days, to give the builders/texturizers time to think about their original work. So I'll suggest the following: officially begin the contest sometime on Wednesday, where the contestants may start building stuff on the Platz, and the "closing session" will be sometime during the Sunday. People already asked me how many prims they would be able to use, or how much space their creations can have. Any suggestions on these? I'd say, maximum 10x10x10m and 25 prims, to give everybody a fair chance - and there is not so much space in the Platz at all hehe. So the "contest rules" would be handed out on Wednesday, and a winner picked on Sunday. Does this sound good? _____________________

I think it's Artillo that wants to build the coffee house, not me. I support the idea, and would be happy to build anything, but that particular endeavor is not mine.
