What's Linden World?
Before anyone goes "duh", I mean, I got that it's an amusement park. Is this a new theme sim that's opening up? What sort of rides or attractions might be there? Is this the "Whuffie" concept sim, where the survival of your build depends on the interest and number of interactions people have with it? Edit: Ok, now you can say "duh". I read this before the announcements post went up. ^_^ |

I'd like to know if the Linden's are going to allow for 'main attractions', or if those will be created by the Lindens themselves. By main attractions, I mean things like major roller coasters and stuff. Giving everyone a plot to work on is a nice idea, however, the park may not flow.

If we want a park the goes beyond the parks in real world we could take a look at the amusement park from final fantasy 7 (gold sourcer).
It is a huge building in the sky with diffrent area's for each type of entertainment. I can't find many pictures but this one: http://www.interstate18.com/ff7/caitsithbg1.jpg This would mean building together on 1 park and not one parcel for each builder. What do you think? |

James - This area will be for residents to create. We don't want to have the Lindens using up all the primitives.

I agree that there should be some chunks of land set aside for larger projects, such as a rollercoaster, though I suppose people could put their parcels together for such a task.

At the time of asking, I had no idea that plots could be joined together...now that I know we can, anyone want to make a rollercoaster with me?

I'll join you on that James. It's been my SL dream for as long as I can remember.

I'll help out James, a rollercoaster would be a very cool thing.
Also, i think people may get together and join up to make areas look like they flow. A midway area with Mini-games would be cool, maybe 2 or 3 people with plots next to each other could put up midway tents in a line. |

Linden World will be tax free... But I'm sure the place will look better if everything is down around the same height. I went and took a look at the two new sims, and an empty plot with a castle floating a couple of stories over it wouldn't fit well with the tight feel of the place.
My question here is can we pick our plots, or will they be assigned to us? I ask because my current design concept has an entrance only on one side, and the rest of the plot will need to be walled in to hide the surprises. Now, I can make the walls as interesting as I can, but they are still just walls. It would be best for this sort of build to not be in the center rows where three blank sides are visible. It would be best on a coastal edge or corner for aesthetic reasons. (A prototype of the building's outer shape is in Olive today (Friday) where I left it at lunch when work interrupted me.) Another question is if, by prior agreement between plot-holders, one attraction can pass through another's plot? By this I don't mean one ride, like roller coaster, taking up two plots... More like a roller coaster passing through/over another, separate attraction. Sort of like the skytram used to pass through the Matterhorn, or the Peoplemover that goes inside Space Mountain. I would not be against a neighbor running a loop of a coaster over/through my ride... As long as it doesn't interfere with what I've got. Also, I ask/hope/wish that noise levels on rides are kept as low as possible, ESPECIALLY when idle. You can't hear the Jungle Boat ride's tour guide PA system from inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride because it's walls block out the sound, even though they are right next to each other. And good thing too, because it would break the ambiance. ("Look, a HIPPO! Arrrr..." ![]() I'd like to see the range on all sounds in the park be very small, like the speakers in each car on the Haunted Mansion ride, where the car ahead of you and the car behind you are out of sync by 5 seconds, but you can't hear them at all. (Except faintly when yours is silent.) Are sound ranges and volumes separate and easier to adjust in v1.1? And is v1.1 imminent... That is, prior to the opening of the park? (Or is the dwell system that the park will use already in place, just not connected to anything yet?) (Oh, and big/bright lights on the border of one plot will bleed over into others... Just to keep that in mind. Perhaps keep them small or closer to the center of each plot. I'm sure there will be lots, both to keep with the carnival feel, and because theres NO LIGHT TAX. ![]() _____________________

These are great questions.
The height concern is a valid one. The plot owners will have to agree to have to the build attached to the ground and be appealing from ground level because we want the visitors to be walking around the park. You will be able to choose plots to a large degree so you should have no problem getting an outside one. If you are selected, try to come to the first day that Nova will be handling sales. Yes, the owner of a parcel can allow others to build over them. Linden will review noise and light pollution, the same way we will check on laggy scripts. The date for 1.1 hasn't been announced yet. |

Coney & Luna
09-27-2003 07:12
For those like myself who recognize the names 'Coney' and 'Luna', but have no idea in what relation (not all of us are born and raised in the U.S.), try a search on "Luna Park" and/or "Coney Island".
Found some neat ideas on this webpage: http://naid.sppsr.ucla.edu/coneyisland/articles/lunapark.htm "At night Luna Park's towers and buildings were lit by a million lights. - 1904" ...no light taxes, eh... interesting... "Elephant rides were popular with both adults and children at Luna Park. - 1907" ...good thing we still have our giant hippo Nova, happy to walk around anyone who cares for a ride. And if it all gets too much: "Luna Park burned in a spectacular fire on August 12, 1944." I also like to suggest to make Yamato town (Dore) and Venice (Bonifatico) 'away-parts' of the amusement park. |

Is LW going to be all no-fly? I am definatly for the idea of making it all no-fly. (If we need to build tall, we can always ride cubes)

This is a "just so you know" post, as I've been getting a lot of the same questions from several residents:
1. You must have been a resident for at least one month to apply. Feel free to contact me regardless, as I can still put you on the waiting list for next month! Your name will not be on the eligible list this time around is all. 2. Everyone applying to me is considered a candidate only at this point. No one has been chosen by the Governor yet, but keep an eye on the Announcement forum for the list! Thanks, and keep those applications coming! ![]() |

Terraforming/Plants
10-06-2003 20:42
I've been getting a lot of questions re: terraforming lately, especially in the case of building trees and grass.
Luna & Coney are set so that they cannot be terraformed. I know this disappoints the would-be landscapers out there, but apparently when you say "these persons cannot use the land edit tools" that includes biology-prims - just like at Burning Life. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news folks; you're certainly welcome to create tree textures or speak to those who already have in-world! |

I've got a new question...
We have a 400 prim limit, and so my ride, as complex as it is, will be auto-rezzing parts as they are needed. Now everything will be on timers to derez, and they will also respond to external periodic die signals... But there is still a faint possibility that, due lag or whatnot, more than one section is rezed at the same time. This could (would!) push me over the prim limit temporarily for a few seconds. I know last night when I stopped to check my count I was over, so I quickly de-rezzed stuff. I'm just hoping/asking that there won't be penalties for exceeding the 400 limit accidently..? I will do my VERY best to make sure it doesn't happen, no matter what. _____________________

I'm sure anyone in the Venice theme will be happy to make land available to anyone who wants to rez plants and drag them over to the theme park sim.

Tiger, I suspect that the bigger problem you might face is that the sim might reach its object usage limit. If all the other parcels are using exactly 400 prims, the sim could be full, and your attempt to rez a section of the ride might fail.

I thought of that, but I'll never be exceeding by more than 100 for sure, and there are a number of attractions that would appear to to have very low prim counts.
I'm still going to do my best to prevent this from ever being n issue for me. I've already made some major changes to ive me more slush room inside my limit. _____________________

We haven't allocated 100% of the primatives and we plan to run the prim count at specific times rather than have a trip wire -- so having so one or two people going a few prims over for a few seconds shouldn't hurt.
