From: Jana Kamachi Lol, I have an office chair that crashes most people with a nVidia graphics card when they see it >.> Ah heck. We woke up one morning and the Lindens confiscated most of the illegal texture sizes from the database and inventories about a year ago. I sure miss mine, it made a great anti-greifer bomb. Had it in an object that I could rez when I was being bothered in Aditi. Texture would change on timer and then change back. I would drop it down, teleport out and come back to find an empty sandbox to play in.

From: someone You can't put 120k listens in an object...it would require 1854 scripts...and the total sim time that object would get would be very very negligable.
You can't now, as scripts-per-prim (or maybe object, this isn't documented and I never tested ) have been silently reduced to 1200 RUNNING scripts. You can have 50k scripts just fine ( wait an hour for it to load inventory ) as long as they aren't running. Items created BEFORE this change will work, but if you take to inventory and drop again, it'll be corrupted and will no longer even rezz.

Ducks bring down sim!
12-07-2007 17:25
My two loved swimming ducks brought down a sim because somehow they became physical and phantom at the same time!!! and the server went nuts trying to calculate that!

I wish I still had a similar technique... I'm too nice to take out a whole sim to tag a few griefers

Make two hundred fifty six torii, set the INSIDE FACE to be changing color in a while() loop. Have it change size by lowest possible value while still updating. Then drop on someone. Anyone looking at it will have their bw instantly flooded and it'll force a disconnect. Doesn't affect anything else in the sim, but script perfs just a bit.

Got tired of stuffing scripts into a prim but have it up at 1306 active scripts in one prim. They all work flawlessly. 1306 [19:09] Object: Touched. is more then enough for me Easy enough to count em though. Touch the prim then copy from history, paste to Scite and look at the number of lines. And that is per prim, not object. Copy the prim and link them and they both work. I was pretty proud of myself till I realized............................................................. Jeez I really need to get a life

If I had a linden for every time I've crashed a sim I'd be rich... ok not rich but at least a little better off. Ok so maybe it would only be enough to buy a cup of coffee. Let me see... There was the Zero Cut shape change bug (it could crash sims and clients). Then the Zero Cut physics bug (same prim different failure mode). Then the Zero Advanced Cut bug. Then the random prim shape physics bug. The Broken Long Link Distance bug (this one was really interesting because it would take about 5 min after doing the offending action for the sim to die; meanwhile the offending object and users could leave the sim). The divide by -1 bug. None of them required hammering the sim, no need for lots of prims, just a couple simple scripts. Good times

I blew up Crash Me with 10 lines of code. No Physics.
When the sim came back up, Dan Linden was like........... "AWESOME!"
Oddly enough, under normal circumstances, the script worked as intended for the purpose.
Most people would have been satisfied and released it, but I always test my scripts for errors when certain variables are not met. That's when I found the bug.
I added some if, else statements to workaround the issue and it's safe now.
I'm not sure if the issue was fixed in recent updates, because I'm not in the habit of crashing sims for the sake of curiosity.

How do we do this
03-29-2008 11:26
From: bladyblue Bommerang I had constant crash issues at the same time every morning. I asked Concierge to tell me what also occurs on the island at that time. They figured out that it always happened when my friend showed up. Come to find out she had old badly scripted stuff in her inventory that was causing the issue. We held her down and deleted the bad stuff and no more morning crashes. How do we determine what objects in inventory are bad? I've got a problem happening right now where after being online for 10 or 15 minutes SL freezes up. It freezes for about 5 seconds then momentarily unfreezes and then freezes for another 5 seconds. Relogging clears the problem up but only for about 10 or 15 minutes sometimes a bit longer. The problem seems to be worse on weekends. I did try a radical clean up on my inventory and that seemed to help. I'm wonderring if there is a limit to the number of items you can have in inventory, I've got about 12,000. RT

I believe that you rez inside faces regardless of whether or not you are looking at them, instead its limited by the drawing distance?

Quite true; however, a prim 0.01x0x01x0x01 in size will only be sent to clients who have their avatar within 16 meters of it

RT That wouldn't be because of a bad inventory item. Lower your maximum bandwidth. If you are on cable, try around 500 kbps. If you are on DSL or something else, then lower it more then that.

RT Well, if you happen to have two items with the same UUID, (or maybe only when you have an item whose UUID is the same as the folder it's in, which was my problem [no idea how it happened]) it causes viewer freezes for some ungodly reason. You could pore over your .inv.gz file in your cache to try to find such a thing... mine is located at C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\SecondLife\cache\97b817dc-5dd3-498a-bdd2-5644d0aa8fb4.inv.gz But I would've never thought to look for that, myself... I just happened to find out when I tried Second Inventory and it threw a ton of error dialogs. I deleted the problem item using slproxy and the specific lockups ceased The specific lockups were immediately after the login process, upon opening the texture picker or resident picker, and upon opening a second inventory window, and only occurred if I let my inventory fetch or didn't clear my cache before logging in
