The best way to crawl the wiki, is to only crawl pages that have been updated. To get you archive started, crawl googles cache (you need to limit your requests per second, or gcache will deny all requests; and you need to configure your crawler to pretend to be a browser).

hey, people
11-05-2006 15:06
um, what's the utility of a Wiki site that gives "too much CPU used" errors when you're trying to use it as a reference?
can someone please fix that problem, or find an alternative hosting arrangement? if you need disk space, i have some. Wikis are nice, but having fixed documentation to refer to, whether commented or not, is better than nothing. perhaps someone could cron up a crawler that produces an HTML of the entire Wiki or a PDF? |

hmmmm One question for everyone to see the reaction. I personally use Osgeld's downloadable wiki. It ties in nicely with Scite and I don't ever have to worry about hosting problems or internet connection. Has anyone given any thought to putting a download link in the official wiki homepage for a downloadable wiki? Maybe with a date of the last update? Might eliminate the need for so much crawling.

Yes, I can also offer free hosting on a dedicated server... server in the family (brother)
did i mention the company's practically never down -- and if they are, they'd pay you back? moreover, i can always yell at my brother pronto if anything like this current outage happens XD |

does this offline wiki have support for updating contents if content's been altered? link?

Catherine, what's the deal with your host? Are you on a budget hosting plan or something similar? Is there any way to either upgrade your hosting package, or load-balance to alternate hosts?
The Wiki really needs to be on a fairly beefy host, given the amount of traffic it could see with (nearly) 2 million potential users. The repeated "CPU over quota" and "account suspended, contact billing" downtimes are getting out of hand. If there's anything we can do to help, let us know (I am also a webhost). |

Guess it can't handle the increasing volume of new people everyday either.

Okay, it's back up.
My host tells me that whatever happened today was an error on their end. They weren't actually sure how it happened. This evening, I'm working on updating some parts of the wiki engine to hopefully reduce the number of MySQL calls that may or may not have resulted in my host's CPU usage warning system coming on and then messing up. Thanks to those of you who offered support, and those of you who swore at me and called me names can kiss my butt. Cheers! _____________________

Please, PLEASE consider some of the other hosting offers here. Since LL has gone ahead and put up a Second Life wiki using mediawiki for OpenSL I don't know why they can't take back ownership of the scripting wiki. /139/2c/160681/1.html#post1384851 _____________________

I would be very good if LL took back ownership of the Wiki. This is an extremely important resource for people who create content in SL.

The LSL wiki is really good: certainly the best documentation of a programming language I've ever used (and I am old -- I've read a lot of programming manuals).
I would happily contribute $100 / year towards keeping it up and running. |

Unbelievable!!!
01-22-2007 21:22
I would be very good if LL took back ownership of the Wiki. This is an extremely important resource for people who create content in SL. I'm new here, so I missed the reasons that LL is not supporting online documentation for their own scripting language?? ![]() ![]() Also, it seems clear that we would all like a book on the subject, except for the fact that it changes so very frequently that any book would be out of date before it was published... ![]() So, glad to hear that there are mirrors... ![]() Where do I drop some L$ in a tip jar so we can keep it alive and kicking??? Please give me a SLURL. |

There's talk of taking the wiki over on sourceforge because of consistant outages. The thread with this discussion is at

OK, I use the LSL wiki on almost a daily basis. But when I click on your link in the original post, I get the message "This account has been suspended" What am I doing wrong?
