Its not bashing the usa here, but what is resulting because of issues relating to the usa.

I agree, it is just too bad that we have to export the idiotic part of our culture!

Especially the attempts to impose our half baked puritanism on the rest of the world.

All I can say is that Americans don't like this any more than anyone else!

I renew my sincere promise that the next time Mr Bush calls to ask my advice on the subject I will be sure to pass on your concerns. LOL

Sigh.

After reading four pages of explanations and reasons, I simply have to chime in.

There are several claims in this thread that SL is so very limiting. But.. it is only limited by the imagination...

Secondlife is a stage. A stage upon which to create, to build, to play, to explore, to design, to imagine.... it is a stage of the mind.

You can build what would be too costly or too complicated in the real. You can create what would be impractical, or impossible, in the real. You can explore, where never you would venture, in the real. You an imagine, what would be unthinkable, in the real.

Karen. Go and visit. See Secondlife for what it could be, not for what it is at present.

We spend hours and hours and hours roleplaying... creating story.

Had I 15000 more prims, I could finish Castle Darkrose the way it was envisioned.

"Camping" as you so vehemently attempt to defend, is not wrong in and of itself. It is, like all other things... subject to abuse. You have done nothing wrong, my friend, so rest easy as you camp occasionally. Park your avatar when you go AFK.. there is no harm or shame in this. What many of the posters are speaking of, is multiple -non-persons- wholly computer operated avatars consuming space and bandwidth. Many. Not one. Not two.

But then, when you do return to the keyboard, go, and visit some of the fantastic creations to be found within the virtual world. Just like the real world, there is a lot - A LOT- of chaff to be sifted to find the grains of beauty and wonder.

I personally have nearly ten alts. But each of them are owned, and played, by a person. Me. At different times for different reasons, most related to storytelling in a roleplay setting. Am I a bad person for having alts? I say not.

The stage of the mind. That is the potential that SL has...

Usagi, I am sorry if anything I said led you to feel that you were "bashing" anything!

That was not my intent!

Second Life is only limited in that it is specialized. Most of the gripes - privacy, reliability etc. - are easily solved by using other platforms that are more suited to what the person need.

Despite my comments, I do indeed travel around Second Life a lot. I also play with (at?) many many other tools like Poser. They all have their virtues and their vices.

I also run many alts. Frankly I can't be bothered to send them camping, a large part of my enjoyment of Second Life and other "computer recreation" is developing "nifty" software to do non-obvious things.

"bots" can be very useful in this process since you can program a "bot" to say give a speech, while you sit around and jeer or cheer or ...

Opensim at one time had a really neat demo of an Avatar "parade" of bots - all similar, but each with distinct characteristics. Not much practical use, but a good development tool.

To me the unique thing about Second Life is the interaction that is possible, sadly the mecjanisms to help that process really aren't very good compared to say a chat room.

Time to end traffic?

This is a sign of the times and how the uncreative people do traffic these days? There is nothing wrong with trying to add traffic to ones own advantage or gains. But placing them in a whole covering themup? If that is the case just leave them around in the open instead of doing this. What is the point of this? If your not a shamed to do this. Why try to hide it?

If this what Linden Research Inc, thinks of evo of the game. Then i say we are better off without P2P teleporting, free acconts, large companies within the game. This is just a shame what has come of second life. Quilty? Stablity? Fun? Well Not Anymore.

Even some of the dance clubs are lowering their possible traffic counts by not running bots dancing or sitting in money chairs on their property. There been one club running between 66 to 80 on continues bases. But now they are running bettwen 44 to 50. why? Because they have givenup on the possible advanatage of thise concept. Along with a unstable client that crashes because its badly coded.........ALong with asset servers. That seems more like china work force at 5pm at the end of a work day even with deadlines for completion on that day. NO CHANCE of eitehr occuring  Why throw money away if Linden research doesnt even support the users tha have paid so much money to them? You would be very surprize why.
