Does your av look like you? Show us!

I've been having some interesting discussions about how much we are represented by our avatars in SL. So here's my first attempt at getting it close.

(I'd like to figure out how to get it more to portrait likeness with image-uploading, but alas, I'm using the Linux distro, and that function's not working for now)

nice idea, but i have a feeling the draw of second life is the ability to not look like yourself.
i'm actually in the works of makifn a skin/hair and a shape like me...

That's the point You see, the entire anonymity of SL, and the internet in general, is what draws a lot of people. An SL friend of mine, whose av is a hot girl, recently "came out" as a hetero male, and lots of her/his friends were really freaked out for some reason.

I'd say a majority of people look nothing like their avatars. Nor do they act like them in RL. So does this mean that SL is merely a role-playing game, such as D&D, or theater?

I look very much like my human av and not all like my dragon one.

I find being young again has much more effect on how I interact with people than my SL skin color, as far as I can tell. My avatar has looked pretty similar to now since day 1 of logging in. An inner me on some level.

In RL i'm a 7 ft tall buff half naked guy with tattoos everywhere, wearing lots of bling.

My av is pretty close in shape to my RL self. But my av is way cuter, more how I feel inside in RL. And wrinkles don't translate so well in SL. But my av is not 6' tall with ginormous boobs and no other shape. And it's nice to have rich full hair in SL, instead of this thin, straight stuff in RL!

And I don't revel my RL age when I first meet people, I have discovered that younger people will tend to act differently with me if they find out right away that I'm really 52. If I tell them after we get to know each other, then it seems not to be an issue at all. The guys will still flirt shamelessly, and the women still like to hang out.

Actually -

I have just recently completely redone my Avatar to look like a cartoon version of me, extra non-hollywood approved curves and all.

So heres a quick picture of my Av now.

Yes I have done the same as well. Right down to my slightly larger than "Hollywood" Thighs. *sigh* LOL

My Avi looks a lot like me. One kind man tells me that I even look better than my AVI. Thank God for him.. Made my day. I could change her, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Well, there was that day when I clicked on the wrong item and became a man. Not to sure he liked wearing a dress though. Was a very bad day, I had a date too.

This is the closest one I've seen, though it looks like he used that exact photograph as a texture. Very impressive, methinks.

Wow, after some digging (actually, I should use the word 'googling', since 'digging' has become a verb of it's own), I've discovered more blogging about people enjoying the non-'Glamazon' look of real-life modeled avatars.

I like the fact that in SL, I can switch from an avatar that looks like an idealised me to a neko to an extreme goth to an unidealised me to a tiny to a furry....and back....and as soon as I manage to find a nice rl photo I can use to show the similarities (and differences), I'll show you. And YES, there are NOT ENOUGH big girls around in SL!

Sure I look like my Av - RL I have a bit more of a tan tho
