I came accross this on one of my deal sites (fatwallet.com) and thought I should share it here.

http://www.contentparadise.com/us/user/free_poser_5_english_full_version_product_21989

From the site:
"Poser 5 is a fully featured 3D character morphing/rendering/animating program for anyone who wants to get into or expand their capabilities in 3D art.

While this version has been supplanted by Poser 6, it is still a very powerful program, and even now retails for $79.95!

This is being offered through Content Paradise, the official retail site for Poser software. The offer expires at midnight on 9/4/06

You must register on the Content Paradise site to access this offer.
(Note: Understandably, their servers are VERY overloaded right now, so multiple tries may be required to access the site)"

If you can't get the dl to work don't worry they are getting pounded ATM and here is a message from them about this:

"Download Limit Reached
Due the the high demand for the Poser 5 free download your download has been delayed temporarily. Please wait several hours before attempting to download again.

We apologize for the inconvenience however your Poser 5 free download will remain available to you through the MyStuff tab indefinitely

I hope this helps some SLers who have wanted to try Poser but haven't been able to yet. I also hope they fix the download so we can all get it,lol. Good luck all.

PS: Oh and I registered but stillhave not recieved my email from them to finish the process so I can try to dl it. I think all the stress of the servers is the problem with that as well. I guess I should have waited until I dled it before posting it here but it just seemed like the right thing to do to share it now. :-) Don't say I never did anything for ya. :-D

Thank you for sharing this.
I registered, but i still wait for my Account to work.
Well, its worth trying a few times, Poser is a fun Toy to Play with.
I got Poser 2 free a few years ago with a 3D Art Magazine, i hope
they managed to implement some useful export options now.
The old Poser 2 Version could only export pure Garbage,
like unlinked objects without Textures or Bones or even Animation.

Download Delayed

I got this far:

> Due the the high demand for the Poser 5 free download
> your download has been delayed temporarily please
> wait several hours before attempting to download again."
>
> We apologize for the inconvenience however your
> Poser 5 free download will remain available to you through

Just make sure to get through the registration phase and to get your Poser 5 "purchased" completely through the online cart process, so that it shows up in the page referenced by your "View MyStuff" page and you should be able to eventually get it. If you don't get that far, all bets are off!

Ah, I posted about this in the Design and Textures forum this morning (doh).

/109/70/134178/1.html

So as has already been mentioned, make sure you get through the purchase process and are presented with the completed message, that will have your serial number, download link, plus a coupon code good for 10% off any future purchase before September 30, 2006 (if you purchase both the Windows and MAC versions, you will get two separate coupon codes).

Also, this free version entitles you to upgrade to Poser 6 at the discounted price of $149.00 (USD).

I already own Poser 6, but couldn't pass it up :)

The site seems to be less busy right now, I didn't have a problem making the purchase a few minutes ago.

Downloading the first File now, ETA : _many_ hours. ;)
EDIT : Download failed miserably.
Firefox' built-in Download Manager cant handle that.
I will try again, using a real Download Manager.

Finally got the thing downloaded. VERY suspicious. It won't run and has no version information. Anyone else had any luck getting it to install?

I think Mirroring is no Option, for Copyright and Bandwidth Reasons.

You might as well try to Download it from a Filesharing Network and
use your legit Serial Number with it. (Dont !)

Don't sweat it. I have 4, 5 and 6. Your not missing anything that poser 4 couldn't do, unless your absolutely needing the 3d texture stuff. But as far as animations and stability goes.. poser 4 is your best bet. had it for years now..even before i knew about sl :D still does exactly what i need it to do..even for animations in sl. seems more stable to me.

Well I still haven't been able to get it. I keep getting the same dowload limit reached message. Will try again later this week. At least we got the reg codes, lol. I think I have a copy of the files on a cd somewhere. I'm building a new system so when I get it together I will try to install it from the disks if I can find them and see if the code works with it. If not will just dl it from the site.

Sorry this has been such a pain in the a$$ for everyone. I guess what they say is true, nothing is really free. :-)

It seems to me it is not a genuine offer.

Got mine
09-04-2006 07:06
I hd to download the .exe twice , due to the demand the first time it only partially loaded so I had to do it again. The first time was only getting something like 32 kbts so long wait only to find it not complete but the second time got 250kbts and yeah got it. Important that have your serial # ready and some patience :-) but I can attest it works. GLA

I assume the offer *is* genuine ....
09-04-2006 11:01
I think the offer is bona fide, but that the Contant Paradise server is getting hammered, ala "slash-dotted," and is probably seriously underpowered.

I have been able to get past the "download limit" screens twice, and a download actually started. Unfortunately, it was extremely slow and their server dropped out of sight each time, once at about 6% and once at about 28%. Did I say the download was slow? I mean *extremely* slow!

It looks like taking advantage of this offer is not for the impatient.

Me, I have Avimator, QAvimator, SLAT, PoseMaker, DAZ Studio, etc., but I'll keep trying to get Poser 5 because it is the animator software Linden Labs designed animations around.

I'm not sure if I'm just patient or if I should *be* a patient!

It can be frustrating I agree, but.....

Remember, once you get through the purchase ($0.00) process and are given your serial number and download links, the link is good indefinitely.

So get your serial number and try the download process in a week or two, when the demand on the Content Paradise site should be less.

REMINDER: Deal is gone at midnight tonight!

fyi, if you're using a Hotmail email account, the registration email they send you might end up in the JUNK folder, so check there before assuming you didn't receive anything.

I put both the PC and the Mac versions in my shopping cart so I can try out both, though I assume the Mac version is not a Universal binary?

Free Poser 5 offer has been extended through 09/08/2006
09-05-2006 12:42
Due to "overwhelming demand," ContentParadise.com has extended the free Poser 5 offer until Friday, September 8, 2006, at Midnight. You need to have registered, added Poser 5 to your shopping cart, and checked out by then in order to ensure that your copy of Poser 5 is reserved. The download process has been horrible for most of us but the company says that if you have completed the process, you will be able to download your copy indefinitely.

Once you have completed checkout, your order should show up when you click the "MyStuff" link. Click on your order under "recent purchases" and your Poser 5 registration code should be in that report. That is the most important piece of information you will need. Print it, write it down, or save it somehow, somewhere. You can use it to register the product no matter how you manage to download a copy of the Poser 5 software.

This free offer is a huge win for animators and prospective animators, so don't forget to spread the word!

Enjoy!

Try your Poser 5 download again!
09-09-2006 19:07
I was successfully able to download Poser 5 and the associated content CD from contentparadise.com today. If you completed your purchase process, try your downlaod again!

We *really* hammered their survers! The response to their offer was *far* beyond what they expected. Now that the offer is over, those of us who hung in there and did our homework can reap our reward!

Poser on 5

Havelock...
You have to download the Mac version, obviously...

Plus the site wants to download a file named (something like) "poserthing.dmg.html". Once it has finished, change the name to poserthing.dmg, then you can mount disk image and install. Little funky, but worked for me.

Animated kisses,
Jilly
