I just got an e-mail from Content Paradise. From now until Sept. 4, you can go to their site and download Poser 5 for free (644mb total). All that is required is to register on their site. For those that cannot afford Poser 6, you can't beat free. As for usability for SL, I assume so, but others with more knowledge/experience will have to pipe up here. I do not know if this download will entitle upgrading to Poser 6 for $149. Anyway, thought it might come in handy for some.

This morning I was unable to finish the Add To Cart, but I was able to now. I am at work, so I won't be finishing the purchase. I will try again tonight once I get home from work.
I can understand the site being flooded, but would expect them to be able to handle the traffic.
If you can finish the purchase, Content Paradise will usually give you several days to download the purchased item. I will check into that tonight, once I am successful with the purchase and report back.

I managed to get it into my cart, and to 'buy' it. But the download links both result in 'Error'.
*Le Sigh...*
I suspect the website got flooded with purchasers for this offer. If you manage to get it into your cart and to complete the transaction, you can download it much later, even after the sale is over. I can see things in my "My Stuff" folder there that I ordered months and months ago, and which I can still download fresh copies of.
It's a great deal, and I am certain that they will have the download problem fixed in the next day or so. It's an $80 USD retail value, and is available for both Windows and Mac. And yes, you can order BOTH the Windows and the Mac version for free, and have it for both platforms!

The page says that the "download will remain available to you through the MyStuff tab indefinitely."

I have dealt with Content Paradise before, and it's not all that unusual for them to have download trouble on the first day of a special offer. Sometimes the team doing the order page is more efficient than the team doing the upload center, I guess. They always get it straightened out relatively quickly.
And yes, it says on the website that these free copies may be upgraded to Poser 6 for $129.00, just like any other licensed copy of Poser.
They have a bunch of other free stuff on the site as well. Flowers and other cool Poser figures.

Have you tried to download the English version from the English website? Mel

Earlier today, English language users, when they try to download, got a blank white page with the word "ERROR" on it, and no further explanation. Now it gets a new page: From: someone Download Limit Reached
Due the the high demand for the Poser 5 free download your download has been delayed temporarily. Please wait several hours before attempting to download again. We apologize for the inconvenience however your Poser 5 free download will remain available to you through the MyStuff tab indefinitely.

From: someone your Poser 5 free download will remain available to you through the MyStuff tab indefinitely I was confusing the DAZ downloads after purchase with those from Content Paradise, so this should help quite a bit. Once you get the Poser 5 purchased, you will be given a serial number, a download link, plus a coupon code good for 10% off the total off any future order before September 30, 2006. Note: If you purchase both the Windows and MAC versions, you will get two separate coupon codes.

Incidentally, on ths DAZ downloads, you can always go into your account history and reset any previous purchase. It takes a little while for the item to show up, but you can always go back and get the stuff that seems to have dropped off of their download list. Just reset the item.

It looks to me like part 2 of both the Windows and Mac versions are the same. Can anyone confirm that? Might save 300Mb of download...

Ceera-- Thanks for the tip regarding DAZ download resets. I wasn't aware of that option. Very good to know, should I later find one of my downloads was corrupted Fulvio-- I haven't downloaded them yet. It's obvious the 2nd download file for each platform has the same zip compressed name. To know for sure, both extracted lists of files would need to be compared.

I have tried several times to download Poser 5, but no success until now. And yes, Internet Explorer forwards you automatically to the German error page, maybe dependent on your IP address. You can then choose US as language, but you will get the same error page, just in English. Then I tried to modify the URL in the address bar directly, but this didn't help either ... again the German error page. I am wondering if this offer is meant seriously as there are only two days left. You might like to try http://www.contentparadise.com/us/user/free_poser_5_english_full_version_product_21989Mel

Trevor, I thank you so very much for your post Strangely enough, although I'm a Content Paradise "irregular", I missed the email with this huge promotion (perhaps it was eaten up by Google's spam filters, I don't know). Yes, despite so much griping on this thread, Content Paradise really does a lot of promotions and it's hardly the first time they do something like this — just not for Poser 5, at least since I've been a member. I have never seen so many people complaning in a thread for getting something for free! Remember, guys, the important bit is not the download, but having a valid license in your name. As so many people know, there are hmm "other ways" to get a copy of Poser through illegal means. But you won't be able to either get support, download any updates (and believe me, these are very important!), or get any discounts on upgrades. Also, in some countries, Poser creator's eFrontier might sue you (or worse, depending on local legislation) if you share product keys or — even worse! — grab a serial key from elsewhere... Ironically, I have just finished yesterday a proposal for a customer for a machinima using Second Life — and which will require hundreds of animations. While I don't particularly like Poser myself (it's interface is clunky), I understand that the "best" way (by far not good enough for my standards, though) to upload animations to SL is through Poser 5 (believe me, I've tried alternatives, free or not, and the results weren't soooo great). Even Poser 6 seems to have some troubles with certain animations. What this means is that thanks to this thread I've just managed to save my team around US$1000 in licenses Our customers will be happy to know we're managing to lower the costs. Sooooo... don't complain so much for getting something for free. As said, register for it, get your valid license key and... use an "alternative location" to download Poser 5. Then use your key!

I recall reading people saying Poser 5 was an abomination compared to Poser 4 or 3 - riddled with bugs, etc. I'm sure those bugs have been fixed by now since that was a long time ago but I do wonder if an older version might actually be better in some way.

Gwyneth, you're welcome Yes, the site is swamped. With only a four-day window of opportunity, it's understandable. As you pointed out, the valid license is the key. So hopefully all those that want to get a free copy of Poser 5 can finish the registration/purchase process before midnight on Sept 6th. Getting that far will give you the valid license number and a link to download the two Poser 5 files (644mb total). The link will be valid indefinitely (as will the all important license ) I already own Poser 6, but I couldn't pass up getting Poser 5 for free, not to mention tell my friends
