Wow.. So not only are we going to still get the same insane price increases, but we are going to have our prim, avatar and script allowances slashed too..
I guess in this Win-Win situation, its a Win for M and Jack because they still get their price rise AND another win for M and Jack because they also have to supply less computing muscle to do it, so they can put out more OS sims for the same resourses and still charge 66% more than at present.. Sweet.
Tell me again how that is supposed to pacify our outrage?
And you came up with this after reading through all the comments and suggestions? Just what comments and suggestions were you reading? It sure wasn't ours!
This has to be a sales and marketing ploy for alternative virtual worlds.

Lets not forget..

M Linden came from AOL. A product that they can barely give away and even then customers find out its a joke and want it off their systems. M was part of that downfall so you really expect him to bring anything new to SL?
Philip should have hired someone that knows and understands the online gaming community like Everquest, Ultima Online, etc instead of a nearly extinct ISP provider.

Gimme back Phil Linden!
11-05-2008 15:34
Relly, we need to speak with a reasonable person. With a preson that allowed us to grow up. With a person that allowed us HAVE FUN of this "GAME".
Anybody home??
Good prices for you, Jack? Realize that they are not for your customers. You'll remain without salary in a short time.

Not sure hiring is the name of the game anyway, with the way this looks.
Sorry lads, but it looks like you are desperately milking the cash cow. Golden handshakes on the way?
Seems like the PN didn't need to make any effort really, they must be delighted lol.

If the pattern holds then the more you folks get nasty the more the offerings will be eroded.
Next round of changes should be homestead sims are dropped to 2048 prims and 10 avatars and a tier raise on full islands and the mainland.
/me tries to put in a laughing emoticon but find I am too emotionally exhausted and beat down to bother.

They've been very fair with what they've given us. People need to accept that the price increase is going to happen and get prepared for it.They gave alot of us what we wanted in setting up a new type of sim. However if they would just sell those sims directly to people and cut out the middle man it would be even better

Jack Linden For President
11-05-2008 15:42
he's nothing more than a politician. Masking responses and avoiding the complex issues.
LL will clearly lose a lot of customers over this, and even more evident is the fact that they don't actually care.
There are other options out there, alternatives to SL, why would anyone stay in an environment that treats their customers with such utter contempt.

From: Felix Oxide They decided you were getting more value than what you were paying, so adjusted it accordingly. People keep wanting to compare openspace to full regions when they should be comparing the value of them to mainland instead since financially that is their alternative. The solution to having something valuable but underpriced was to reduce it's value (lower performance/use/prims) but raise the price?

From: Phil Priestman M Linden came from AOL. ... Wrong. Mr. Ambrose has the AOL background. Mr. Ambrose is the technical exec guy putting in the desperately needed fiber ring and other network scalability improvements. Didn't M come from one of those investment firms of the type that destroyed the planetary economy or something? I forgot.

And let's not forget that to use the new openspace many of us will need to move them BACK to where we had them. Think we are going to get a deal on that 150/us a pop fee?

My attempt was rejected, and I didn't swear or curse.
Too bad. So sad.

IF we pay more we should get more... Not less
11-05-2008 15:47
I think for the higher price we should get better performance on the "homesteads". Even though i was pretty happy with the performance already, but what we get for the added price increase doesn't add up. I have a hard time believing that LL can't afford to have the homesteads running 2 per server instead of 4. I really get the feeling like the price increase has had nothing to do with server performance, but more to do with there profits. They saw business's making money from the OS sims so they felt they should get make more from it. I'm sad to say that i will be staying on my OS or "homestead" and pay the increase, mainly because my business has been good there and my search ranking is high and it took me forever to achieve that. But when other virtual worlds start to develop, people will remember the times like this when we got taken advantage of from LL. And we will be gone. That is of course unless there opensims cost even more.

From: Barb Carson The solution to having something valuable but underpriced was to reduce it's value (lower performance/use/prims) but raise the price? Because the "value" is the private land space. not the prim count. If it were not about having that private space, then people would be happy on mainland or a rental region.

Required Private Region ownership still hurts...
11-05-2008 15:48
I've now read all the way through the FAQ's at: https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=5650 This really is a huge improvement over the status quo of 24 hours ago. But one piece of the policy could still really hurt; it's this one stated as an FAQ: What things have not changed about Openspaces, Homesteads and Private regions? * You still need to own a Private region to buy an Openspace or Homestead. I definitely understand the ownership requirement to have an Openspace--what good is a park without some people around it? But the Homestead sounds like it really could exist on its own. If I can't afford to buy a private region now, I sure can't afford to buy one IN ADDITION to the Homestead space I actually want. Is the FAQ in error? If not, could Linden consider this tweak to the policy? Thanks!'
