Things are much better now than they used to be. **poke poke** And no one is forcing you to endure anything. Meanwhile you impose your incessant whining on the forum! I am a paying customer and I have every right. Back when things were down on one single day i was able to schedule around it. Now i have to schedule around 3 days. I speak for many . It's not whining as you put it. It is a simple request. My posts were for prospero not you. I could care less what you think feeel or do IN sl. Nor would i post any snotty remarks towards your requests. _____________________

Now, you and a lot of people go on and on and on and on about how these rolling restarts are horrible and that they should do something. Well, um, they -are- doing something. Prospero has said they are working towards something. The problem, is that you (general finger point here) keep going on about it, and -nagging- about it. Like they should have this perfect solution -right now-. And frankly, as a paying customer, I have every right to ask you lot to back down, cool it, and have patience. 'But we're losing business'. Well, sorry. I don't -have- a paying business (which often times, -pays- you enough that you -make- money off of SL, rather then spend it) and hell, I've lost swathes of my inventory. A couple of times, yes, I've respectfully asked the vendor if they could replace, a lot of the time I can't because it's freaking transferable (perhaps the worst permission for, in my mind, a product I buy). I'm not on here screaming at them to fix it. I'm also not screaming at vendors to replace things. Perhaps the problem isn't Linden labs, it's your customer base. This is because, yes, I know they are working on it. this is also because I read the TOS I agreed to when I signed up. It doesn't just apply some of the time, it apples -all- the time. So yeah, you lost something. You lost a lot of thing, maybe. Um, sorry. They can do the little things. Roll back to a save point, but they're certainly not required to take the heaps of abuse I see a lot of people throwing at them. So, hon, as a paying customer, I could care less how you feel. Just because you own a business doesn't somehow make you better then me. Now, that all said, we -were- promised an update on it, and I am very curious as to why this restart happened. I would guess the delay in getting the message out was because they want to let it back and are making sure that the reason they had to do this was solved. But, that's guess work on my part, so yeah. |

Sorry you do not understand what many are asking for. Thanks for your input. Many of us have RL jobs and businesses to run . Rolling restarts start @ 8 AM on east coast. Start of working day. and they wait till day 2 to tell you odd or even . Great so Not everyone has all day long to sit and watch the status blog. As another event of this last rolling restart alot of script stopped working i had to spend several hours cleaning up again after it. Simple request to indicate odd or even on a given date would be sufficient information to be able to plan their lives around failed BS that they have to contstantly fix which has been a weekly ordeal these days. _____________________

Maybe you should start looking at the quality of scripts you're using. I haven't been forced to reset ANYTHING. Several people have offered suggestions on how your poseballs might be inproved and might easily "reset themselves". And honestly.. the fact that one or two of your POSEBALLS in your club might be invisible for a couple of hours until you're able to get home from work and kick them back to visible.. You really are making a mountain out of a mole hill. _____________________

Just want to know something...
Some clubs in the SL world had little to no traffic yesterday. The club where I work as a hostess (Upside Down Club) only had one or two users arrive. Someone even informed me that The Chilli Pot barely had any traffic at all. Yesterday afternoon, at some point, I received a message telling me that my region will be restarted in 5 minutes. Was that part of the rolling restarts that occurred yesterday? I thought they were scheduled for 9/30 to 10/2? Yesterday was 10/3, and the rolling restart continued intermittently. When are the latest series of restarts scheduled to be completed? |

Good suggestions Winter ... better scripts improve the sim performance over all and lead to a better experience ... add in that the claim that "I'm a paying customer" really rings hollow when everyone has to live within the same experience with regards to restarts and in some way EVERYONE in SL is a paying customer. The Europeans and Asian region players would love for LL to schedule around them too. There are simply too many people to accommodate.
I don't mean to pick on you personally Dibert, you're just the loudest and most strident poster who always wants something different/changed but never seems to offer a constructive criticism or solution to benefit the 60K+ SLers. |

I think poor prospero is going to have a stress attack with some of these posts, my only complaint is going to be why they don't have a better BETA programe running, I will keep on saying this till someone from LL replies, I know what they have now, and it is not good thats why we have so many faulty deploys of code.

It's been a day since the roll, and still nothing added to the status blog as to why it was needed.
I have a very successful business in SL and rolling restarts don't bother me at all. It's just a few minutes once in a while, so what's the problem? During those few minutes, one or two people may buy elsewhere because they can't get to my store but so what? If such a tiny difference is significant to a business owner, then maybe it's time to close the business down. _____________________

So...you're blaming Linden Labs for you buying faulty merchandise? No, I do understand what you're asking for, and I also understand Linden Labs stance on this. They give as best a window as they can. Sure, perhaps they can say 'we'll be doing odd servers on this day, and even servers on that day. However, Prospero has stated he's not going to do that. Telling him constantly to do so seems, to me, a waste of time and energy. Time and energy you could spend finding better poseballs, perhaps? |

It's 9:30 pm Friday evening in SF ... the roll is done ... 'nuff said? Im sorry, did my question offend you to reply like that? I was more concerned that there maybe an additional blog associated with the status page that I did not have the link for. |

LOL no you didn't offend me. I just thought it was self-evident that at past 9pm on a Friday it was likely that most of LL not dealing with immediate emergencies would be either at home with family or in a club either celebrating or trying to forget the weeks rolling restarts. It takes waaaaay more to offend me. And I, too, am curious about what triggered the second rolling restart; but I'm also aware that depending on the cause of the restart and the success or failure of the restart to fix the original problem, it may not be possible to tell the residents what went on until later (Sat/Sun/Mon). |

Ahhh, the mysteries of the rolling restarts...may they be revealed in time.
I'm a bit irritated that there's no info posted about the unplanned restart, here it's way more than 5 hours after they posted it and all. But, hey, I just logged into SL okay, so hopefully all's well. Still, I'll be interested and checking back for more info - maybe by Monday? |

There were more vulnerability reports and the opportunity was taken to patch things sooner than later. Perhaps it's unclear yet whether another critical viewer update is warranted. Or maybe someone's upset by such a thing happening twice in such a short timespan?

I have experienced the same (on my mainland parcel), but it has already started earlier this week if I remeber correctly, even before the first rolling restart (it started after my sim went down the second I logged in, this btw has happend quite frequently lately, detatching everything hasn't made a difference so I'm sure it's not a borked script) - for no obvious reason Sim FPS drops down to as low as 1 (!), a few seconds later it's back to 45, then it randomly goes down again, recovers and so on (no obvious pattern in terms of time between the drops, doesn't matter how many people are around). I don't know what exactly causes it, but it has never been like that before and it's really annoying... |

After the heat in this thread, I wouldn't blame Prospero one bit, if when the emergency roll was finished, he didn't just stand up, click off his monitor, clock out, and go home. absolutely i'm sure! ;0 sim lagouts/freezes, i dunno, i haven't had a single one of my own sensors go off anywhere to indicate something like that going on, so it would be no surprise to me if it is some more security updates. it's stated policy by now that such fixes won't necessarily be reported to the general public (to protect against abuse of the flaws until they are filled in). :0 don't gripe that! ;0 this is tech, not politics - they aren't trying to do anything grievous; they're just trying to make things better. whether or not it 'fits' our schedules, well that's a tough one and will be biting our butts for a long time. :\ just ask anyone who books weddings and such... and considering how 'security sensitive' anything in sl is, even avatar appearance, inventory... then thinking about how everything in sl will eventually be improved and updated, reopening or creating new code along the way - certainly seems the kinda thing you'd want to get used to. that kind of work will just simply 'never be done'. _____________________

Yes, the 1.24.8 roll did finish.
No, we haven't posted the reasons for that yet. We will, but I don't anticipate that happening before early next week at this point. |
