Short Video of Windlight Water and Sky
11-16-2007 07:21
Just made this quick capture of Windlight Water and Sky.

http://blip.tv/file/487284

It demonstrates some of the built in environment settings.

I'm not running at the Ultra level...and the video is
seriously compressed. =)

Anyhow...it might give some who haven't tried the latest
First Look client an idea of what Windlight looks like.

It looks lovely...but there's stuff to work out still...

I feel Linden Lab is getting this basically right.

Windlight makes SL crash on my machine. Waaah! Not fair!
Performance is pretty laggy on my client at the best of times. I can't go near places with more than a couple of AVs in it without everything slowing down to a ridiculous degree.

I'm using an ATI Radeon Xpress200 series video card, 512MB DDR memory and Semprom 1790 GHz CPU. My bandwidth is 2 to 3 MBps (according to the notification area...)

Anyone got any suggestions?

I notice my skin and other fems skins all look like they need face lights, even when they might have one and oddly guys' skins look better? *grrr?*

I suspect we'll see a change in skins post-Windlight, with a lot less baked shading.

Okay, idk if this has been covered or not, but Im gonna ask instead of spending forever scrolling through the long topic :) I posted this in the gallery section of the forum also.. But if anyone could help me out that would be wonderful :)

"Okay, so after looking through all these pics and being totally amazed by them, I had to download the Windlight Viewer.. And well needless to say, my water, clouds, etc.. are not turning out like that... My sister (in game, hehe) also downloaded the Viewer and isn't seeing the water as realistic as the beutiful pics posted here... Any idea why its not showing up for us? Also another question... I own 2 plots of land surrounded by water, I got to Edit Enviroment (or whatever its called) and it doesn't give me a option to edit the water or sky, the only thing I can change is like the sky setting (the lil slider), so can anyone help me out there? Thank You very much in advance and the pictures you all have posted are just absolutely amazing"

And if this will help, my video card is a ATI Raedon RX9250

Thanks Guys

Jamie, I've got the same card. Unfortunately, we won't be able to enjoy Windlight with this card. Enabling shaders immediately crashes my client. The only benefit we get is bluer skies and a nicer sun. That's it.
No clouds, other than the low level particle ones. Same dark blue water. Avatars look quite dark in morning and sunset settings. No twinkling stars.
Oh well...

Check in Preferences, under "Graphics" and see what the slider is set to. If it is at Low, you will not see much in the way of Windlight. Try turnign them up and see if that helps. You will take a potential performance hit for doin' so.

Yeah I moved the slider over, water looks the same as does the sky, like no clouds.. Its quite a bummer :( And its still a mystery to me as why I can't adjust the water, cloud, settings, etc...

Unfortunately an ATI Radeon card just doesn't play all that well with OpenGL and SL. Try doing a search in Technical Issues with the keyword "Radeon" and it will come up a lot. I would also suggest posting a question about it there and see if someone has any advice.

Welllll... Firefox by default shows bigger-than-your-screen images reduced to fit. You can then zoom in and out with a click of the mouse. :)
