From: Tod69 Talamasca I noticed that a bit too. Other than that, NICE Water!!! Anyone notice- when you're on the bottom of a water sim looking up at the surface, you get a refraction effect? Nice! Now if we can only get water to act as water.
I want to drink it. coco

I think it needs some perfecting. As it is now, the water looks good, and the sky at a distance looks better, but the land and the trees and buildings have a flat washed out look. The scene is too bright.
It maybe needs playing with adjustments. I maxed out all the settings and draw distance. My FPS was not effected although textures rez slower. My machine is a quad core extreme, SLI 8800 ultras. with vista. One thing that annoyed was on on island the water effects have a distinct border at the edge of a sim and so the ocean is two tone, the sparkly nice water and a flat washed out light blue water. There is a lack of depth to buildings and the ground. Beach sand on an island was smooth and not as good as usual, very flat. I'll play with my adjustments to see if its just the settings.

Windlight is GORGEOUS BUT I've yet to figure out how to take a pretty snapshot of my avatar. The sky and water, no problem, but my avatar is hideous.

I agree, the scenery is fantastic at first glances, but avies are YUCK! I look SCARY! Also all those poor people I have passed that have no doubt spent a fortune on looking great most likely do not realize how awful they look in windlight

From: Tod69 Talamasca Oh you!! SHUSH!!! I logged back in to Windlight and then changed from windowed to non-windowed mode and everything went crazy. Going back to windowed didnt fix it. I am now emersed in psychedelic moire patterns extending up into the sky and every object is emitting extruding giant textures every tree is splitting and dividing and cutting me in half. When I fly up a few hundred meters the whole world looks like collisions of massive, rolling and emergent, green rubber blobs. I am going to shoot some video of this in case it goes away.

From: Ava Glasgow This is the fallback for those of us who can't render the shaders. It cannot be adjusted. From: Ava Glasgow You might also notice what looks like image artifacts in the windlight picture, darker spots in the dark gloom.
When you mention shaders, are you referring to the shaders in the graphics tab of the preferences section? I was able to resolve the issue quickly and easily without going there. Did you try going to World > Environmental Settings > Environment Editor? Adjusting the water fog there cleared up my lagoon beautifully. I wont have to miss my fishies. I'm going to loooove Windlight.

Wow, loving the water - especially if you change the environment settings to use the Glassy preset for the water. Refraction is such a nice little touch, it's something you probably didn't even realise you missed until they added it. Getting some major sky glitches though, every time I move or rotate, I was wondering if anybody else saw these? Also, I think there's a bug with the occlusion culling in the 2nd pic - it's culling part of the terrain behind a building it's decided not to draw, probably because of the draw distance. I'm on an Athlon64 5600+ with a GeForce 8600GT, 3Gb ram with the Ultra settings, using Linux.

Hoping to give this a go when I get home, I'm curious to see how it performs on my trusty Mac. Will be upgrading to a new machine soon anyway, but with a bit of luck I should still be able to play SL well enough until then =)

I was talking with one of the windlight QA guys tonight - if you're getting graphics glitches where everything stretches out (like Rebecca's screenshot), first thing is check your graphics drivers for an update. Windlight is set up to use the latest graphics card drivers, and if you're out of date you might see rendering bugs, sometimes massive ones.
If updating drivers doesn't help, file a bug report (under the Tools menu) and include your system specs, including your graphics card model and driver date. Running bug tests on every single card on the market is a daunting task and while I think they got the majority of them, there are still a few that probably weren't available as testing machines.

Yes I had similar problems when I played with windowed/non windowed mode and resoloutions, ended up back in windowed mode working ok. Ultra mode caused some grinding gears, but it's beta look I expect that

I just downloaded the Windlight First look viewer. My impression is a positive one. Unfortunately my RL's comp isn't up to doing the clouds or water reflections but the lighting effects are still good. I particularly liked the 5.00 pm setting, with a sort of melancholy romantic light. Also there is much better light and shade definition on the terrain. But there were problems. It seems a bit slower, even with similar graphics settings to normal, and there were some strange texture and rezzing problems. for instance in one busy place I got eyeballs and other parts of my anatomy showing on moving sheets of paper that seemed to flat across the environment. In another place, some of the other avatars kept disappearing and reappearing. But it's nearly there - well done LL. Proper shadows and walls that don't let light through area what we need next!

I have to say, if your pc isn't up to doing water reflections, upgrade it so it is. They're that good. Shadows (and by extension, walls that block light) won't be something you see any time soon, sadly. From: Nina Stepford read three pages and saw no mention of clouds. are the classic 200m clouds still there? if not i will give windlight a miss. It has both the volume clouds of old, and the new ones. The new ones also look better than they did in the old first look, they appear much higher.

The problem with this, and all these really nice pictures that people are posting, is that you start to notice tiny changes to the builds that would look even better! For example, in your 2nd pic, the walls could be darker just above the water, as if they were wet.

My drivers are THE most up to date. After the reboot, it was back to "normal" windlight again. The issue is the Viewer's compatibility. I'm sure we'll find that many people with settings to ultra, will be seeing these glitches. Mine started when I switched to non-Windowed mode and only a bluescreen and a reboot fixed it. I have not tried changing the Environmental Settings but I'm sure I could reproduce the bug. I'll send a report later.

So, has anyone come up with a decent realistic day yet? Something decently long, and with a 24-hour time on it?
Would love for this to actually experience longer/shorter days, and so on...
