I came to the forum just now looking for a place to thank LL for changing the colour scheme shown in RC2. I love it.

Well, OK, I merely like it. I definitely prefer it to the old dark interface.

I still want control over the background color in any and every chat, message, and text window. That will enable me to make the chat windows white background, black text. It's a usability and readability issue. Reading white text on any coloured background causes eyestrain and makes reading more difficult.

Having control over color and size is great, but at least the interface isn't a dark background anymore. I like the new look, in general.

Since I hope to spend lots of time in SL, I'm glad that the client is becoming easier to read, and healthier for me.

Just adding my voice to those who dislike the current, lighter color scheme.

Please do provide an easy way to choose a darker scheme without having to manually edit a bunch of files.

You realize that it is an RELEASE CANDIDATE VIEWER meaning that you do not need to install it you can just use the regular viewer.

Yes Gordon, but I thought part of the point of these release candidates in the first place was to get feedback. And judging by the look of this and countless other comments all over the place, the Lindens' plan to get feedback is working all too well, :-)

Herr Nietzsche was right, sometimes you gotta tick people off before they do something. Looks like we have a quite few irritated folks out here, lol.

I actually don't mind Dazzle at all, I like the new icons, but saying that, it is obviously too bright for people so I fully support any optional skins, or to make it user customisable somehow.
I'm not going to oppose a new feature just because I don't want it personally, like many people here are doing.

You realize that it is an RELEASE CANDIDATE VIEWER meaning that you do not need to install it you can just use the regular viewer.

However, they are stating now that they believe RC6 of Dazzle will be the final change before they make this the main client... With absolutely NO attempt having been made to add skins by anything short of extreme hacking. Manually replacing over 20 files in a variety of locations every time they release a new version is too much to ask the average SL user to do.

I've been using the release candidate pretty steadily and giving feedback. It does offer some nifty new things now, like fewer crashes and being able to build above 768 Meters. Yet Linden Lab seems dead set against listening to their customers whenever one of their pet decisions gets a strong negative reaction. They did it with the "Chatterbox" User Interface change, they did it with Voice, they did it with "age verification", and they have done it with other unwanted "features". So I fully expect they will force this new UI change on us with no official way to revert to a more eye-friendly color scheme. Because someone at LL with a lot of pull wants it to be done this way, and everyone else doesn't matter.

"First Look" and "Release Candidate" apparently do not mean, in the opinion of Linden lab, that they are the least bit interested in knowing if the customers find the new features desirable or useful. All it means is, "This is what we are going to do, wheather you like it or not. All we want from you is help in debugging it so it will work as we intend it to work... or as close as we can manage... or bother to do...".

To us, as users of the service, "First Look" and "Release Candidate" are useful as red flags for what we will have to change on our end to continue using Second Life. Better video cards to cope with Windlight. Headsets to use Voice. Bigger monitor to cope with bloated user interface panels. Etc...

As much as I do not like the color scheme I have gotten somewhat (begrudgingly) used to it, however reading the script errors are nearly impossible...not that I generate a lot of script errors =|

Another issue I have with this RC viewer configuration, and maybe its not the viewer, I have no idea, but when I copy a slurl to tp to from the website, it pops up a semi transparent map port window, which is quite strange in my opinion. The window itself isn't transparent but the map inside/on it is with that alpha gradient background.

But yea, please give me an option to go old skool with a single click not rapid fire hacking of the client. I changed the default 'snazzy' XP back to classic, let me change this too - some things I simply do not wish to 'upgrade'. More importantly I would like to test this out in the RC before it goes live. Please do not go the way of Office 2007 with the like it or lump it attitude.

I am still waiting for shareable windlight settings too btw... :D

I have pretty much given up on making comments or voting on JIRA issues on release candidates as it's pretty obvious LL don't give a damn about their customers. They would rather work on a pretty color change rather than outstanding issues like the memory leak (is this fixed yet?) The fact that they are unable to fix long term bugs just points to the quality of the programmers they have working there. Maybe they should get rid of the Fischer Price castoffs and get some people from a gaming company.

I want the ability to adjust the colors, opacity, and font sizes of the different parts of the interface separately from each other, and save them with names of my choosing, like I can in Windows XP, to a secure place, that survives a complete uninstall and delete of SL.

What I really want to change about the new interface more than anything is to have the text on buttons with a uniform background color in the part of the button where the text is displayed. If you just absolutely have to have gradients, confine the gradients to part of the control element outside where the text is. The gradients in the buttons and elsewhere really decrease legibility.

Also, the highlighting in the inventory is ugly and undesirable.

Also also, the way the highlightling of the tabs in the group chat is confusing as to which is the less active tab and which is the more active tab, and the highlight results in light colored letters on a light colored background, nearly illegible.

There have been some legibility improvements. The triangular Play or Start button on the music control used to be a blob. Now it looks like a triangle.

The gradients in the buttons and elsewhere really decrease legibility.

I find the use of a reel to reel movie projector an interesting choice for the video controls. I suspect there are users who have never seen a reel to reel movie projector except in history class.

Read the effing roadmap for the release client, you'll understand what I said. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CHANGE SKINS! I really hope you're not petitioning about the Release Client. The release client is a test client. That would be like saying something sucks and is ugly before release. (duh...)

This release client only includes one skin, the default dazzle skin. If you, oh holy forumgod, know so much, why don't you know that? I agree, the shinyness is way over the top web2.0, it hurts my eyes after a while and is destracting. In fact, I think it needs to change so much, I went out of my way to read the roadmap for what I was testing (GASP!).

Just over one minute and I found it on google: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Skinning

Yes, skinning is planned. However, LL has also said that it most likely will NOT be in the released version of the 1.20 Release Candidate. The OP has a valid complaint, and I agree with him.

Will we get RC 1.20.7 with skinnning to try and 1.20.7 become the a main viewer in due course, or numbers along this line.
Bet they get a lot of complaints when this present 1.20 goes out.

I eagerly await the "vidtut" that shows me how to make the interface green and pink, like it should be.
