PETITION: Give us a color change!

Dear Linden Labs,

The new UI layout and graphics are really nice, BUT please, please PLEASE!! give us an option to switch back to the old blue/gray colors.

I, and MANY others have grown fond of the SL specific color theme over the years and are seriously put off by the new white/blue design. It makes my eyes hurt, destroys the overall feeling of SL and I seriously don't want to be forced to use it in the future.

I am not asking for anything but an option to change the colors to the old theme. I love the new buttons and layout, but the colors are seriously off, so, if all else fails, at least give us a second, darker theme.


Everyone who would like to request the same, please reply to this thread.

DanielRavenNest Noe provided a very nice work around at http://www.rpgstats.com/SL/Dazzle-Retro.zip which contains a custom colors.xml file and darker images, which really helps a TON!

ETA:: But, if by some poor mishap, it's not, then I'd like to agree. We need it. Badly. I want a pink and bright orange UI damnit! (OK, not really.. I like the UI, just not the colours, I want the greys again)

I agree! This new UI makes it very difficult to work with in dark enviroments! The transparent windows with BLACK text is HORRIBLE! The color is way too bright, and theres just too much contrast. it hurts the eyes.

im glad that you guys try to bring new stuff to SL but NEW does not always mean its GOOD.

Not officially supported yet but you can skin this version. Worse comes to worse somebody could make a skin of the old version.

As mentioned elsewhere, I tried the new Dazzle interface on 2 computers. It was OK on the old laggy one but on the super new one that does full WindLight effects, the transparent drop down menus become illegible - very dull dark blue type on a semi-transparent black background - impossible!

Is it this Rc 1.20 you talk about here?

Well I just downloaded that and I lasted 5mins with it. I'm finding it hard to read the black words on silver backgroung. I went into My Inventory and it just drove my eyes crazy.

I'm now worried that this will become the normal viewer and my SL days will be over.

I have to agree the new colors are way too bright and I really like the old grey/blue colors.

An option to chance theme would be great but ill also seriously consider not making the silver/blue theme the default one, it may drive away new people sins it seriously hurts the eyes and overshadows everything else with its brightness.

A UI should never be seen, it should just be there (Hope you know what I mean). Bright colors and lights kinder give the opposite effect.

That's supposed to be a SILVER background?!

For me, 1.20 is unusable. The color palette didn't stick or something. So I get black on black and it's impossible to read any dialog boxes. And that's after clean-installing the viewer, so to speak. I uninstalled all other versions of SL before I installed this one.

I installed this so I could take advantage of the new build height. So much for that.

Maybe the XML for the skin is borked. I dunno. I just hope some new user doesn't get the same problem I do, and give up on SL before they start.

I've tried adjustments to my monitor settings. One in particular as helped greatly with the black print on silver. It is a setting for what you are useing the monitor for was set at "Gaming", so put it to "Text" and it is better black print.
Of course I assume, because I can't tell as yet anyway, I have compromised the picture quaulity.

What have you been smoking ? they are hideous, palid, boring, (tho I'm sure those running the linux client will love it I seem to remember something similare with a penguin in the corner ).......... just the kind of "upgrade" we have come to expect from LR of late.

If it ain't broke, DON'T fix it!

The classic SL UI was perfect. It was legible, worked with every environment. Why the heck would you mess with something that actually WORKED when you guys can't seem to fix jack in a timely manner anymore?

Bring back the old and LEAVE IT

This is horrible, back to the old one please or most people will go to a 3rd party viewer.

LL - disband the eye candy team, they are not needed when more people are needed on the main teams. If these people cannot be moved because they lack the skills, fire them and hire some real programmers.

We don' need no steenkin' programmers...we need some human factors engineers. For this job, anyway.

I had hoped my first post would be more positive, but the colors of the new 1.20 release candidate are so horrendous that I had to say something, before someone locked the code! For those of us who've been around the net long enough, it brings back frightening memories of the original AOHELL color scheme. For everyone else... quick, let's get a show of hands of people who actually like these awful shades of blue! OMG... no hands... really!?

Uhm... no...
Doesn't that mean that the UI layout and graphics actually suck? No "really nice" design should make your eyes bleed out the imprint of the GUI into the back of your skull.

Well thats was common sence tells us. But the person do al this "COLORING BOOK" style of how not to do it.......IS tell us "hows not tos"thinks what is better for us does NOT have any graphic sence what so ever. They have no idea of color sence let alone sence of taste. I dislike the style of this UI and what it repesents...EGO! Enough of this bad sence of style and color taste. Give us the optin of what we like and not what some with no taste to speak of..................! Then again they not paying this linden are they?

LL still havnt learned , always keep a option on anything you change, so we can go back to old way it worked or looked instead of pave over it and force us to use new additions.

I like new changes and additions, IF i a choice to use it or change back to old or image this edit it to my liking, now im pretty much forced to use it till another update, oh well view/toolbar off as usual.

Fair enough, this is "test client" and theyre pretty much more stressed fixing things all over the place then i am, so id still say thank you for SL , its a experience and frustration for everyone.

Look dude, I'm not singing your petition. Mainly because you failed to even read up on the new ui. You still use the release candidate based around the new GUI, but you hate it. Yeah, you make TONS of sense...not. How about you read up on a topic before you go off on a huge rant? Please? You could really give people the wrong idea. I don't know if you've even read about Dazzle or not, but the new GUI will include skinning options. Yes, thats right. Skins for your UI. So you can change the look and color as much as you want. This isn't implemented yet, but they are working on it.

Please, if you're going to use a forum, do some reading before you do some typing. UGH.
