laughs once again........why do people continue to prove its easy show they no idea what they are talking about.

"IF" you would read the first post ( even I understand ) that this person have enough smarts to see how bad the UI is! Please don`t insult people if you yourself don`t have a gram of a idea what they are talking about. Gesh people these days! we all know its a test UI ( gesh you do know this right ). as they say these days EVERYONE IS EXPERT.........

Read the effing roadmap for the release client, you'll understand what I said. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CHANGE SKINS! I really hope you're not petitioning about the Release Client. The release client is a test client. That would be like saying something sucks and is ugly before release. (duh...)

This release client only includes one skin, the default dazzle skin. If you, oh holy forumgod, know so much, why don't you know that? I agree, the shinyness is way over the top web2.0, it hurts my eyes after a while and is destracting. In fact, I think it needs to change so much, I went out of my way to read the roadmap for what I was testing (GASP!).

Just over one minute and I found it on google: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Skinning

A UI should never be seen, it should just be there.
Nicely put.

Has there actually been a claim by that there will be convenient interface for changing the interface appears before RC 1.20 gets promoted to release?

Or does the claim about skinning mean that folks that want to edit a bunch of text files and modify bitmaps can create a new appearance?

Well that works almost as well, the community making them, that is. They make almost everything else anyways. But yes, they've said there will be multiple skins to choose from, including the old ones.

Making Dazzle Look More Or Less Like Previous Versions
04-13-2008 09:46
Part of the Dazzle Viewer (1.20 series) is the ability to make it look the way you want.

Below are instructions to make it look more or less like older versions.

It would be nice if it were a tab on preferences, but at least its _possible_ to make custom changes.

(Note: I installed this and it looks good to me, YMMV)

http://www.rpgstats.com/SL/Dazzle-Retro.zip

Contains the custom colors.xml file and darker images

http://www.rpgstats.com/SL/Dazzle.zip

- Contains a blank colors.xml file and the Dazzle UI images
(for those who wish to revert without a re-install)

Extract the zip file of your choice, there will be two folders. "app_settings" and "skins"

Copy the content of those two folders into the right places in your SecondLifeReleaseCandidate program folder ( on windows this is C:\Program Files\SecondLifeReleaseCandidate\ by default )

If you do like it and want to make a donation of some kind...
Just send it to Thraxis Epsilon in SL.

I wish people would stop going on about... "It's only a Release Candidate" and "I read the roadmap".. blah blah. Historically LL has consistently pushed out release candidates to a mandatory viewer WAY before they are ready. So any promises are pretty much worthless at this point. And Dazzle isn't new. It was first released a couple of months ago. Plenty of time to work on the custom skinning. Have they done it .. no. But since the first release of Dazzle they have seem to have been concentrating on removing useful features and breaking things.

You've said this 3 times to me the past 5 days, Usagi...lol. I've never insulted anyone, I'm trying to make you see that you're not going to be stuck with the ugly bright ice blue UI. Adding someone to ignore in a forum is pretty ignorant, but go ahead!

Now...to the matter at hand. My friend directed me to a "fixed" version of the new Dazzle RC viewer. It works for him, but crashed for me as soon as I hit the "Connect" button.
http://www.armyof4.com/Kirstenlee/1-20-0-84432-R3.exe
Made by KirstenLee Cinquetti. I didn't know who it was so I scanned it for virus/trojans and came up with nothing. It installed just fine.
Maybe theres some hope for someone there!

True, but some need to say their peace as they say( i do my share) but feed back is just as important( when the linden deside to look for it). There is one problem, some people still don`t know its a release client. As for removing useful features, shows once again some sort of coloring book style UI design. The person is trying to stream line the client for thei own gains. Oh its important to redesign from time to time. But good UI design ideas come when you make then flexable for the user. This release is not that way ( a small amount ) but not even close. Almost 4 years and I seeing less and less of human relation with users and the Linden and more of "US and THEM". It wasnt always like this but then again time moves on as they say. But thats does pardon them for being so distance between the user and them.

I agree, please at least give us the option of changing it with different skins or back to the original colors, which I would prefer.

The dazzle is too disturbingly bright to me. Those yellow folders...UGH! Hideous!

I just voted on the aforementioned jira and I suggest others do the same.

In addition to the new Dazzle color theme being too bright and not
providing enough contrast between foreground and background, the
gradient style is frankly quite cheesy and looks like Microsoft's
home page interface.

To my eye, the new interface looks like an poorly done modification
of the original theme. For example, the difference between the user
menu drop downs I program for my products looks cheap, even
using the retro skin. It just doesn't look right.

The work done on the new arrangment of menu items looks OK though.

Yes, please switch back. It's currently hideous and distracting and I can't stay logged in because it hurts my eyes and is difficult to read.

Sign me up, options are always good.

I might not pick the same colors as the ones it came with, but I'd live with them forever compared to the bright, low contrast replacement :) The mere fact that I never wanted to change it beforehand would be enough.

/me signs up.

It's nice to see that people these days tend to say "Hey, you fucked up there" instead of "Hey, I noticed that XYZ still needs some work"

I dislike the new interface in 1.20 in the current Release Candidate viewer. Please allow us to switch to the one from 1.19, please!

I've voted for the Jira issue, but I'll throw my hat in here as well.
