I run it on XP and Nvidia 7900 with the latest 84.69 drivers for that card and I have no ripple water :( The option - even though it's selected - is grayed out. I have bug reported this.

I have ripples sometimes and other times it's gone. (on xp and nvidia 6200 card)

It does not work period in Vista, especially if you're on a ATi X1000 series card which supports SM3.0, I had this problem with the light glow debug option it just crashes back tothe desktop in both windows XP and Vista, I'm on a ATi card so I may just be SOL until ATi fixes it. But as far as I know light glows have never worked on my machine even in XP, like I said, crashes to the desktop, so if this Windlight uses the same light glow technique then I 'AM' SOL period and my only option is an unintentional exile from SL.

I am running Windows XP and a ATI x1600 w/512 mb RAM. I have no problems running it with the latest drivers. May want to look at other problems rather then exiting SL. Maybe a new formatted OS is in order.. Don't know but good luck!

It works fine under XP, save for the debug settings RenderLightGlows, I have it defaulted off for the most part because it can cause some undesirable effects in the Windlight viewer, as does RenderDynamicReflection. I just can't use the new FL viewer in Vista which is sort of disappointing really since this viewer seems to be compatible with Aero. It just crashes with the crash logger, I've logged about 3-5 crashes with it now.

My FirstLook experience...

Overall: Not impressed.

While it looks "pretty" from the ground, it is hardly more "realistic" than the previous version from that PoV. The sun is a giant blurry blob in the sky, even when the sky is clear blue. The clouds are little more than a couple of dynamic interacting alpha layers using shaders with some kind of overlay on a 2D "skydome" which *laugh* stops at 700m (yes, you can just fly through/above it and see a blackness above.. no stars). Water is pretty much a "bowl" below, and is rendered terribly.

As you get higher in altitude, the "pretty" illusion from below 200m starts to fade away as the sky flattens out and the sun slides off into the distance and flattens out. By 500-600m, the pixelation in the cloud textures begins to look awful, and you can see precisely how they are built.

That's in addition to textures being washed out, shiny/bump looking all wrong, and invisiprims against the sky are grey blobs.

Fortunately, I haven't crashed.. yet.

I hope that they are just barely beginning to play with it, and it looks like ass because it is their first first attempt, otherwise, I hope they didn't pay much for WindwardMark. They definitely can do (could do) better.

PS: Oh, and the clouds move and change WAY WAY WAY too fast.

This test is the first test in the new system so expect that there will be a lot of problems. As new versions of the "First Look" viewer comes out expect improvements. So please don't just complain for the sake of complaining. Be a constructive complainer and just tell them that there are problems and what they are. No need to trash the viewer and Lindens. They are only trying to make our stay in SL more enjoyable.

Thats all for my service announcement :-)

Yeah, I know how the First Look deal works. :) Just kinda expected better from all the hype on the blog and elsewhere. Rule #1: If ya ain't got it, don't flaunt it.

I think I just did. :)

If they wanted to make my stay in SL more enjoyable, they'd get some of the other 1000 some-odd (reported) bugs fixed which make SL less enjoyable, rather than more distractive "candy features", which add that much more to their bug load that they already cannot manage.

Fly across the sim borders in the vehicle sims - the sky jumps discontinuously. That's bad.

Interesting point, that new features development not only consumes dollars that could be spent fixing bugs, but also actually increases the amount of bugs.

Kinda weird behaviour I've noticed with it, on logging in Windlight runs terribly, I get maybe 1fps on my client... until I go into Preferences, and toggle 'Ripple Water' off, and then back on. Then my framerates return to normal. GeForce FX5900XT on an Athlon 2800+ WinXP box, for those who're curious...

Its a bug, please vote for it on Jira. There's a way to fix it by rolling back the OpenGL version or going back to original drivers, but that kinda kills performance for other things.

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-911

You can also make a preset that removes the cloud layer in Windlight so you can at least see the sky again.

Thanks i will vote on it, but i ain't rolling my drivers back just for this. I'm a multi-game gamer and this would possibly kill all my other games. :p

I think LL is listening to us sometimes. I remember talking about how ugly the SL sky was before, and how I've seen much more vibrant ones in old MMORPGs such as EQ lol. Hopefully this attend to this issue and get it working for most people anyway.
