From: Wrom Morrison I just installed 93.71. Clouds are working now ! But the sad part is this is a 7 month old driver. It doesn't work with the newer drivers (even the driver Nvidia put out earlier this month and then removed (due to a bug in new control panel not showing). Glad you got it working! For Vista, I tried the 100.x drivers up to the 160.x beta drivers with the same issues. Looks like the Nvidia Vista drivers just don't support the Windlight features.

Or Windlight is using some feature that they only tested on the older drivers and is currently deprecated in current Nvidia drivers? Regardless LL should get this working on new drivers, since the only drivers they work on are over 7 months old. I really can't be in this driver for long cause it kills my Stalker preformance. If anyone figures out a walkaround for newer drivers, it would be awsome. Stylez thanks for suggesting the older driver.

latest nvidia drivers work fine for me.....on xp. vista is an entirely different monster though, and from what i've heard about video card support on vista, LL can hardly be blamed for stuff not working as it should?

The latest offical Nvidia driver was removed after 1 day of being on the nvidia site I think you might be using the Nov 2 2006 driver. Which is old. I figured a walkaround for making this work with new drivers. (Should work for Vista guys too) Install new driver. Copy opengl files from old driver into Second Life folder. I think that should solve it.

Looks like the Nvidia Vista drivers just don't support the Windlight features. Using vista, 158.something drivers and an 8800, all the features work as advertiesed. Not too happy about how some of them work as advertiesed but so far everything works as I've see on other machines.

I gotta say im hoping theres a massive increase in the quality of colors because its drivng me crazy trying to fix them on my own. No matter what i do darker colors turn so dark that the stonework on my house makes it look like a giant monolith and the colors on the ground and my skin look overbright and washed out. The news shiney makes things just look kinda... greasy. All i cant stand being on the client more than 5 mins which really makes me concerned about when this stuff goes live.
The new "improved" sky is a real letdown too.. and wow the ocean looks BAD from high up Its like theres a giant bowl around the sims lined with water and if you go up high enough then the sky dissappears entirely because you pass over the 2d plane its being projected upon. All in all the end effect is that clouds are no longer real clouds which im my opinion is a big downgrade from how the system previously looked.
Really going to be upset if this hits live in this condition. It totaly changes how SL looks and not in a good way.

I tested the new viewer.
So, what's the big deal? The sky? Whoopie. How about a faster frame rate viewer. I have a new system, updated drivers, and all my wife and I got on her comp and mine is crashing. I can't even get the ripple water effect to work.
On the right track, but going in the wrong direction.

From: Stylez Gomez I'm in XP at the moment and everything is working as should be expected. Is there anyone who has gotten this to work with Vista? It does not work period in Vista, especially if you're on a ATi X1000 series card which supports SM3.0, I had this problem with the light glow debug option it just crashes back tothe desktop in both windows XP and Vista, I'm on a ATi card so I may just be SOL until ATi fixes it. But as far as I know light glows have never worked on my machine even in XP, like I said, crashes to the desktop, so if this Windlight uses the same light glow technique then I 'AM' SOL period and my only option is an unintentional exile from SL.

Some comparisons:
normal viewer: http://www.phoca.com/_pvt/SL/Lighting-Normal.jpg
note FPS of 77
FL viewer set as default, firstt hign you see when you try it out: http://www.phoca.com/_pvt/SL/Lighting-FL-Default.jpg
Ack! Totall blown out, washed out, color changed (nice clouds though)
FL viewer after extensive tweakling: http://www.phoca.com/_pvt/SL/Lighting-FL-Tweaked.jpg
Looks /ok/ but the gamma and contrast as still not near as good as the original.
Also note that the FR is now in the mid 50s, that's a significant FR drop.
Vista, Core2Duo 2.6gig, nvidia 8800GTX with 158.43 drivers
(ok, how do you get URLs to actually work since the "auto" setting seems to be broken?)

Yes Farallon, thats what I tried to explain above, if you want the ground things to look right, you fall into the problem of the sky beeing to contrasted. Pictures always explain better

Yeah, getting the box horizon and everything white at night settings...got new drivers on my nvidia and no change.
So...this is something we'll be able to disable and revert back to the "old school" way when it's fully implemented, right? Because it is not working on my machine at all! I have a fairly old machine but I somehow manage to make SWG look 100% on here...and that games older than SL!!
Are they at least going to give out coupons for discounts on computer hardware?

From: Haravikk Mistral "this means that your graphics card should have DirectX shader model 2 or later support" (Second Life Blog) Does this mean it won't work on Macs and Linux, or is it using OpenGL, if so, why not an OpenGL requirement? Last I checked Direct X doesn't work on Mac or Linux =S The blog also says: "WindLight doesn’t change our System Recommendations, so if your system meets those, then you should be able to see the newfound beauty in all its glory" And they released a Mac version, so you'd expect it would work. I suggest that you download it and try it. If it is not working for you file a bug report at Jira (instructions in the blog article). It is working fine on my macbook pro. Meni

Well... I find it impossible to have any complaints regarding how things look, because as soon as I see something I don't like, there is a slider to correct it.
BUT - it's making my brain explode cos I can't remember what I slid and why and what it used to be. Unlike when we just had the 4 times of day to switch between, I now have no idea if when I choose region default I am actually seeing the region default or something I slid it to.

From what I understood, there is no region default (yet). I switched to midnight (using the force sun) and back to default, and the sky looked different from before the switch.

I don't see the clouds and don't expect I'll ever see the clouds. But there are a lot of other things that don't make sense, like no fog whatsoever, so that the edge of my draw distance is an ugly mess, a hit to my FPS, and one scary moment when the sky had turned into a big blank box except at the very top. I have made a proposal on jira to benefit those of us who have lower end video cards by permitting us to use our own static wallpaper when we can't see the clouds. We'd still get the benefit of the new variable lighting effects. If you like this idea, please vote for it by first logging into jira.secondlife.com and then going to https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-935. Thanks! .

Things I have noticed!
05-30-2007 04:33
I have spent a few hours in the new WindLight viewer and here are my observations so far. 1. Where did the moon go at night 2. Get to loss about 10 -15 fps overall with this WindLight implemented 3. Please tweak the fog density more 4. What no more natural lighting at night Anyone else experiencing any or all of these things with the new First Look viewer or is my PC a piece of crap.. which i doubt. Anyway, Lindens good first start but as usual long way to go.

I run it on XP and Nvidia 7900 with the latest 84.69 drivers for that card and I have no ripple water The option - even though it's selected - is grayed out. I have bug reported this.

From: Rik Zwiers color problems Same here, it's discoloring everything, prims, trees, grass... I'm hoping they'll tone it down a bit before releasing it. I'm running a geforce 6200 video card and i'm on windows xp.
